Begging for alms is a means of survival for those who are suffering from permanent or temporary total incapacity such as blindness, mental derailment, deafness or dumbness who can no longer work or hustle to meet ends need. But recently, overwhelming evidence shows that people who are even physically and medically fit do not want to work but disguise and go begging on the streets of Nigeria.

I know many of us might have once been a victim of their scam

*Lemme keep the ball rolling*

In my school, before, during or after lectures, we normally have at least a beggar as a visitor once a week, and one significant thing most beggars share in common is that they always have touching and tears-dropping stories that will make you nearly empty your pocket.

On this fateful day, a beggar with black shades, accompanied by a woman, came into our class and started narrating his story. He told us he was formerly a lecturer at Rufus Giwa polytechnic, Owo; and lost his lecturing job due to vision problem which later resulted in total blindness.

Personally, I didn't believe the story because it was too fake to be true. How could someone who claimed he was once a lecturer will have difficulties in speaking English to a reasonable extent?.

He told us about how his family members neglected him to bear his cross and that he had consulted several opticians for check up and a sum of five hundred thousand was needed for surgery so as to regain his sight.

Before I could say Jack, some gullible students started shaking their heads pitifully, and our class rep stood up, tore a sheet of paper and started collecting money for him after which the money was handed over to him. He prayed that we will always experience academic breakthrough in our endeavours(oboi see how pass and probation students dey shout amen cheesy ). He thanked us for our kindness and went to another class I guess.

*Fast fwd*

At the end of that day's lectures, I boarded a bus to town to get food stuffs in the market. On our way we bumped into pot holes and a woman complained about our dilapidated roads and our leaders' lackadaisical attitude towards maintenance of these roads. Some people in the bus nodded in affirmative and said we are suffering from bad governance.

I heard a man from the back seat lambasting our politicians for our bad roads, poor electricity and fuel scarcity. Then he claimed that of petrol was worse and gave testimony of how he went to a filling station yesterday to buy petrol to fuel his generator and had to queue for several hours. The driver and some passengers started giving their own experience too.

I had to look back to have a picture of the frustrated man that was lambasting the government when I saw the shock of my life. Lo and behold, it was the man and woman that came to our class to beg for money (this time no goggles on his face but I was able to recognize the woman very well ) shocked

When we all highlighted at the last bus stop I had to wait and monitored their movement to see if the woman that brought him in our class will hold his hands by the roads side as an acclaimed blind man but reverse was the case. I was astonished when I saw both of them crossed to the other side of the road to buy roasted corn. That was when I knew they came to scam us.

I narrated the whole drama to my course mates the next day and they said they would be waiting for his next visit.. That was the last day we saw him

Mine is a little different from the title but scam na scam grin
This incident occurred 2012 when my younger sister came to visit me in school I was in 100l then. She Brought food stuffs and important things along with her.

After set and done, it was time for her to go back home. What really prompted this incident was that, then when I just gained admission into school do take her along with me. Those time my sister followed me, we only boarded "along taxis/buses(also known as one chance grin)it's very cheap and affordable. The school was far from where I reside. The driving distance is about 74km and travelling distance is 60 minutes.

She boarded a motorbike from my hostel. And i forget to tell the bike man to take her to the motor park instead of the school gate.

Three hours later, I tried to reach my sister and her phone was not going through. I was so bothered and stressed out. Then my grand mum called and asked if she is still with me..I told her not to panic that all is well. I called my sister back, this time her phone went through but she was not picking. You need to come and see me I was almost running mad like a frustrated ashawo grin that her customer refused to pay her after services tongue

It was around 8pm I called, she picked but didn't utter any words. It was my youngest sister that called and told how my younger sister was scammed.

The next day, I travelled home to know how everything was. Then my sister told me how she encountered those one chance scammer.

She was in the taxi minding her own when all of a sudden the passengers including the driver started arguing. So one of the passengers ask her"aunty wetin u see for this matter" before she knew she was hypothesised"

The only thing she was able to remember was one of them telling her being a rich prince from a royal family.

She didn't even know how she went to my dad's house and took a huge sum of money and gave it to them.

So, we asked her if she will be able to remember the address those scammers gave her. She said yes. We went to police station to lay complain.

We got there and what we saw was an empty plot of land. grin

My bros and sisters that was it o!....

We need to be careful of these scammers they are everywhere.

I experienced this situation at ojodu berger, Lagos when a guy approached me with tears, explaining his ordeal that he was attacked by armed robbers on his way coming to lagos that I should help with whatsoever amount I have to transport him back to ilorin.

Out of pity I gave this idiot N500 hoping I have done something nice not knowing he is a scam. Few days later at same spot, Someone approached me with same story and remorseful utterance only for me to discover that it's the same guy.

After narrating his fairytale, I asked him to take me to the garage so that I can pay his transport fare. The next thing he said was that "oga if no get money, abeg waka go".

I got angry and shouted "God go punish you" Thief! Ole!!!. Trust touts around that area na, the guy ran for his dare life and till date I have not set my eyes on him @ Ojodu berger.

[b] This brought back a very wicked memory, of how heartless I was last year grin

I was at CMS waiting for Brt to ikorodu road when this Man came to me and begged for 400. He said he is also going to ketu but he doesn't have enough money with him because he lost his wallet in the previous bus he took and God knows I couldn't leave him hanging because I had been in that situation before.I had no change with me so I gave him 400 (that was the lowest change with me).

Not up to 3 minutes, I got a call from a friend who wanted me to call him back asap but I didn't have airtime on phone so I had to check around for a vendor.. I got one, went in and asked for airtime when I saw this bastardd drinking Goldberg and pepper soup in the next shop. angry

Damn! I was so angry, I felt like a stupid client who just realised he is scammed!!! shocked

I never chop anything since morning and this bastardd I help dey enjoy pepper soup with my money!!!!!! angry

Wanna know what I did? Watch out for episode 2 angry

I can't really say if it's a scam.

It happened like last three years. There's this crippled beggar, crippled on one leg by the way. I do meet him along one of my programme centres . Due to his attitude, he smiles and doesn't have that pitiful look like most beggars do. So I started doing my share for humanity by dropping money every morning, I mean every morning, like jazz. If I had walked passed him, I would walk back and drop even if it's at least #50. He would throw his arms up like 'Sai baba, I greet you ' kind of salutation and nod his head.

Fastfoward after like three weeks of not going for the programme. Finally, On a Monday morning , I am ready to go. I saw this guy and he has started adding weight like crazy , this guy saw me and after I dropped money again, he smiled like ' I knew you would drop it' kind of way and he began calling me customer. My head reset, eh ehnn so I am your customer.

I reasoned myself that day, enough is enough. I purposely didn't give him money for a week straight and I just only smiled at him every day of the week, the bastard didn't smile back. I studied him for a week and I noticed he sits at that spot from 5am and leaves at 10am sharp, he even changes money for bus drivers, he has reached that level of money begging laundering. This guy is a businessman and I was his client angry

Mine happened last year

There was this guy I had a crush on while in sec sch and he knew if he took advantage of it then I always sent him airtime then when I finished sec sch it all dawned on me that I meant nothing to him so I decided to backout

Fast forward to August last year I received a call from him asking me to forgive his action that he really loved and want us to start a relationship and I had a soft spot for him them so I obliged and we started dating as usual I continued sending him airtime. In October, he called me saying he had a confession to make he then told me he lied to me abt his school he said he applied for a poly for Hnd and he pleaded with me that he needs 20k to do admission runs I had pity on him and I sent him the money [I just resumed first semester then so I had money] he promised to pay back by November I said OK. November ending he called again that he needs 5k for something urgent then he reminded me how much he loved me and u know na I fell for it.

December came and he told me that he needs another 10k for admission runs then I realized I was being duped. My friend advised me to tell him to pay back the money so I called him and told him to repay my money and since then till now he avoids my call and refuse to chat with me

I fell a victim for love so now no way for broke guys again o
