Have you checked what ASCP is about? A marriage between pathologist and Medical laboratory scientist. When is it a crime to be recognised by a body who acknowledges ur existence? Same way Medical Laboratory Scientist are acknowledged and admitted into the Royal college of pathology UK. A scientist certified by ASCP carries with it the title MLS (ASCP) same goes with the doctor; MD (ASCP). Likewise in the UK he bears the title FRCPATH after his MLS, same as the Doctors

Do you know after such trainings dey become consultants Medical scientists.

Dats what our brothers in Nigeria don't know rather dey want to enslave the other. While basically both are pathologist. A Medical Laboratory Scientist is trained in ALL areas of pathology in B.MLS level and he chooses to specialise in one aspect of pathology post graduate.

do you know the ASCP also accepts bsc holders in microbiology for professional training?

Of course yes (I think it has even stopped it's now exclusive for doctors(pathologist) and Medical laboratory scientist) but not as a Medical Laboratory Scientist practitioner as you wish to be done here.

http://www.ascp.org/students

There are a thousand and one MB(ASCP) (Not anymore) and do not function as a MLS nor has ever worked in a Medical Laboratory but for academic/ specialist qualifications. No degree anywhere in the world aside MLS can work in the Medical Laboratory. You can read this if you wish to na fellow microbiologist write am.

Hey guys, I'm a student of biomedical science or Med lab, anyone, in Ghana and it's 4 years. It's BSc. Tho but that is what is done here in Ghana compared to the BMLS in Nigeria. The next thing they have started adopting is the D MLS which is 6yrs. When I was doing my attachment during the holidays, I was told that my certificate will be like that of a technician in the lab and that I should do my masters immediately after school (I'm currently in 300L).

In Ghana normally, after the degree, they do a one year internship and after that they write their license exam. After which they are a full biomedical scientist with their license. But from what I heard, in Nigeria, that's not the system and I won't be recognized as a scientist. I've asked on how to go about it and I've received answers, some satisfying but I want to be completely sure. I want to hear from anyone if there's a way around it or something. I plan on visiting MLSCN this holiday to find out more tho

Mind you, what they teach in Gh is same as in Nigeria. I usually follow up with some of my friends in Nigeria so I know. I think the difference is just name written on the certificate.

Thanks. But I've tried their website. Nothing is really clear. I'll try again though. But during the holiday, I'll go to their office to get more information.

Does studing bsc.biochemistry nd msc.chemical pathology gurantee becoming a chemical pathologist in d hospital lab.pls i nid urgent answer.tnx
The answer is NO because you can only be a Chemical Pathologist if you are Medical doctor with Post-graduate training and specialization.
MsC Chemical Pathology for non-doctors may lead to frustation because they no longer allowed non-Pathologists to teach Medical Students and neither can they be appointed as Specialist Consultant Chemical Pathologist in Hospital setting.

What he's saying is this Medical Laboratory Science(BMLS) is a different course entirely on its own and it's quite different from Bsc MCB and more professional. Instead of laying ur frustrations here get a professional degree that is permitted by law to train Medical Laboratory Scientist through the university. When it was done as post graduate no1 stopped anybody but the diploma has been superceded by a professional degree wc soon will be superceded by a doctoral degree(soon). U weren't trained in a clinical oriented way u can't assume cos u are a Bsc MCB u r free to work in the Medical Laboratory freely. In case u don't know we have Medical Laboratory Scientist Medical Microbiology major and some Dr's in Medical Microbiology so why are you disturbing urslf. You are free to sue it won't hurt. Do you see MLSCIENTIST dragging ur environmental work with you? Know what you are trained to do.

The only way to be licensed is to go back and get a B.MLS qualification that's the only thing dat can bring out the license (even if you have a MSc or PhD with no background B.MLS, no license). No form of professional course. The only route is going back to school to study MLS (If you are lucky u might get a DE). Hope that helps

Morning.

Going about being licensed as Medical Laboratory Scientist with upper credit (HND) in Microbiology, can I go for a related PGD course in a University, thereby giving me the opportunity to do my M.sc in MLS to be licensed?

thanks.

The only way to get a license is practically through B.MLS not MSc or PhD degree. Msc in MLS is a specialty course and not MLS as a whole.
The only thing u can do with the Msc is lecturing cos the council won't gv u any license. Prerequisite for license to practise is B.MLS not Msc or PhD. Do a direct entry to study Med lab den b guaranteed of a license on ur induction day
