The rapper was spotted Saturday wearing a jacket emblazoned with the flag after being criticized for featuring it on merchandise for his current “Yeezus” concert tour, People reports.

In an interview Monday with Los Angeles radio station 97.1 AMP, West explained why the former flag of Southern states during the Civil War made its way into his merchandise.

Oprah Winfrey was once a victim of racism.
That flag was pulled down in South Carolina recently and the state Congress apologized.
Why should Kanye be producing jackets with such insignia.

In as much as the flag represents racism and all the atrocities committed against black folks, and Jim Crow - it is no different from the official US flag when it comes to slavery.

The confederate states weren't the only US states involved in slavery - the unionists were also slave traders/owners. Heck, all the founding fathers of America owned slaves.

And it gets tricky when you find out that a lot of black folks fought and died for the confederate states under the same flag, just as a lot of black folks fought and died for the unionists. So it is matter of opinion, albeit the Jim Crow era put a nail on the coffin of the confederate flag. But that doesn't negate the fact that this flag and the official US flag are both slavery flags, if you want to get to the nitty gritty of it. And if you've a problem with this one cos of slavery, then you should have a problem with the official US flag for the same reason.

Regardless, running around with a symbol of Jim Crow, racism, and the lynching of thousands of black folks isn't a wise thing to do.

I need ya celestial message for this youngin running with Confederate flag, whilst invoking the ghost of hundreds of thousands of black folks left to die in concentration camps in Mississippi after the American civil war by the confederate states and the thousands lynched under the same flag during Jim Crow era.

I think it's similar to Prince Harry and how he was running around with Nazi insignia but you can always give Harry boy a pass cos he has German ancestry and the whole Hitler/Nazi story depends on what side of history you want to believe. Some believe Hitler did what he had to do to save Germany from the Jewish bankers and the hole the country was in after world war 1, while others believe he was a cruel maniac. But the Hitler never really sent his most powerful forces to attack the UK and he sent them to Moscow. And some believe it was cos of the royal family.
