I was scrolling through the auto section and I notice a lot of neat 2004-2005 Nissan maxima were put up for sale. Such a good looking ride. I just wondered, is something wrong with that car? Why are Nigerians selling off even at cheap price? Am I safe to buy this car?
Gazzuzz and other learned ppk in d house, plz advice.
Have u used this car or currently using it? What's ur experience with it? Every contribution will be appreciated.

because it will eventually ruin you as it did the previous owners.....especially if you patronise kazeems.

till nissparts gets here reminisce over these:

2004-07 Nissan Transmission Problems
Mostly in the Maxima, but also affecting the Altima & Quest.

The Problem: Widespread transmission problems ranging from rough shifting between gears, hesitation while accelerating and sudden stops or jerking.

The Cost: Average out-of-pocket expense around $3,000, typically occuring around 100,000 miles.

A Transmission Nightmare
This generation of Nissan vehicles is not without problems. And we're not talking about little dash rattles here, we're talking about expensive, hair-pulling car destroying issues.

Take, for example, the thousands of transmission related complaints rolling in to CarComplaints.com from owners. Whether it's hesitation between gears, rough shifting, sudden stops or diminished acceleration, there's absolutely nothing good about these garbage transmissions.

What Owners are Saying And Doing
Having problems of this magnitude is awful enough, but to have a manufacturer turn a blind eye to the situation? That's enough to make owner's blood boil:

"This is my fourth (and last) nissan maxima. Nissan Corp will not even acknowledge that there is a problem. Right now, the problem mostly occurs when I am driving along and take my foot off of the gas and then try to accelerate again." says anthonywiggins on CarComplaints.com.

"The rpm's go up and then the transmission engages with a terrible jerk. One motor mount is already broken. The dealer suggests that I replace the mount, but what for? Until the transmission is fixed, it is only going to keep breaking the mounts. It's a damn shame Nissan will not do a recall on this problem!"

Let's face facts: transmission repair or replacement is always going to make your wallet shake. To have to pick up that bill, when so many others are having the same issue is particularly painful:

"At first I thought I had just got a bad transmission, the warranty is out, it's my responsibility I'll have to bite the bullet, and fix it some how. Then I discovered all the other complaints across the web with the same exact problem. This is an unjust move on the part of Nissan to not own up to their mistake."

Owners are reporting typical repair costs between $1700 - $3500, happening as early as 35,000 miles.

I have owned an Altima 99. Used it for 4 years and 9 months. That car nearly wrecked my bank account. I wont buy that car for my enemy. Though I never changed the transmission. It worked perfectly well. Engine knocked after 3.5years. Changed the fuel pump like 20 times. Overheating occasionally. I never accelerated at full blast in the last 3 years or there were issues after that. So many issues. I bought it as tokunbo. Enjoyed it for only 1 complete year. It started having problems when i started driving in serious hold-up. Real serious problem.

Run niccur Run!!! Except it's your hobby to keep spending to keep the car on the road. If you love the nissan badge, there are other models that are more reliable (consult nairaland carlanders) to the 2004/05 max. It will be pure foolishness if you buy that maxima IMHO

Because you had issues with your altima doesn't make all atima cars bad. I owned a Nigerian used for about 2 years. Only things i changed were tyres, running belts and normal servicing. Probably you weren't too careful about maintaining your car

I will not answer you because its not worth it. OP, my altima made me a part time mechanic. 4 years and 9 months is no joke. The day the engine parked up, there was enough engine oil in the engine.

I have moved on and i know better. Like I said, the first one year was great. The 2nd year was the beginning of troubles. It became more difficult until I changed the engine after 4 years of buying it as tokunbo. I sold it for N340,000.

How many nissan altima's will you see on the highway today? How many 99 models, 2000 model, 2002, 2003, 2004 and so on? I can buy a nissan almera again but not an altima.

Isnt this thread about 04 maxima?

Since it has shifted to altima let me add mine tongue

I once bought a toks 99 altima se...leather,spoiler,black on black.....didnt use it for long cos i had to travel, but i loved it...so much dat i named it "Shevchenko"

The KA24DE engine is the bomb.tho noisy, its swift...and answered me wenever i pushed the pedal....fond memories of my trip from ikorodu to ado ekiti comes to mindgrin

04 altima and 99 altima are in two different classes entirely...i wonder why theres a comparison

Aa for the 04 maxima, the gear has valve body issues.oga nissparts talked about dat on dis forum

Bought a nissan maxima 2004 model for a friend for 1.4m toks my guy spent an extra 500k fixing almost everything from engine overheating to gear not shifting especially when vehicle becomes hot....it wasn't funny though. I did adviced my friend never to go it especially for a first car but d guy insisted its a maxima or nothing else. The aftermath experience wasn't funny at all. Thank God he had d cash to spend. Cos for me spending extra 500k on a car I just bought is crazy....

I don laugh no be small... anyway carcomplaints website proves if it is less a case of bad mechanics but rather factory mistake.

If you still want a maxima, get a model year that had resolved most of the issues which means not a 2004-5

that maxima is a beautiful nonsense,
my personal experience -
1st few months was great, super fast, great bose sound system, spacious interior, etc.

then comes the nightmare -
break pad wears off easily,
car vibrates if i match break while speeding,
driving shaft vibrates,
steering perpetually became stiff
unexplained rattling noise from unknown dashboard location (while on my seat the noise comes from the passenger side, while on the passenger seat the sound seems to be coming from the driver side) i had to get over the noise with music volume...shiit
another unexplained cracking noise coming from passenger side from outside,
keyless lock started behaving funny,
engine started vibrating, i had to change the engine sitting,
driver side camber cracked, the price of one side camber is almost the same with the complete, so i bought complete.
to my surprise Nissan welded the ball joint to the camber which was quit strange. if your ball joint has issues you must buy a complete camber, ....like ..WTF??

then comes the real nightmare-
gear started jerking when am climbing or slowing down,
the jerking kept getting worse especially when the engine gets hot,
while driving if i stop - shift to neutral - and return to drive, the gear jerking could cause miscarriage if i was pregnant,
NB: for all these issues from the first break pad to gear jerking, i spent approximately 1/3 of the cost of car purchase in mechanic workshops.

then came the final nightmare-
I was taking my kids to school, approached a red traffic light and i stopped, as usual i shifted to neutral, applied hand-break and was making my kids laugh with jokes, then the traffic light came green, i released hand-break, shifted gear stick to drive and the car refused to move.......
i was shocked, cars behind me were hooting, kids were saying "daddy move now" keke drivers who managed to sneak through and overtake me were all uttering abusive words out of anger,
i shifted the gear back and forth from neutral to drive and vice versa to no avail. ...frustrated i was.
while the stick was still in drive, and the traffic light was about to go yellow, I matched the throttle real hard, and the next thing was like a frictional explosion sound from the outside.
the engine sound changed, at this point i had to come out of the car and seek help .
people came and helped push the car out of road, i never knew how heavy that beast was until that day when people were pushing it.
took a taxi to ensure kids get to school, then came back with a mechanic.

sorry for the long story, i really had a very bitter experience with the maxima. the mechanic tolled it to his workshop,
but the only time i entered the car again was to take my wife's umbrella and some of my music CD collections.
sold it from the mechanic workshop at a ridiculous price.

This is so because a lot of people dont simply understand this car. This car should never be treated as the Toyotas of these world. It is much more sensitive and should be handled as such. It's also more electronically advanced and beautiful than its Toyota contemporary( based on year of manufacture)

I am sure SultanofBrunei did not follow the maintenance schedule from the stable of Nissan. I am just going that document now.( there is a different bulletin specifically for apart from owner manual and service manuals) . It stated explicitly what and what to check and replace at different Odometer readings and several other things. Going through all these I am sure most Nigerians will be guilty. I am too. If these are religiously followed there shouldn't be much problem . Costee can testify it.

The last that do kill these cars faster than death itself is our own Naija KAZEEMs and even more dangerously now the NEW REPACKED/GLORIFIED KAZEEMs. These are the normal Kazeems that now pose around with Scanning tools forming professional.
Once these two set of guys get onto your Maxima just forget it. You need divine intervention to restore it back to normal and even if you eventually do your pocket will be extremely drained. These guys understanding of the car is below zero. From experience when most of them open the car bonnet they normally shout " Chaii I no no wetin Oyinbo biuild for here ohh.) because of the space constraint in the car under hood
Well I dont blame them when our mighty oga Gazzuz self dey run grin

Still comin more tips to follow
