Thanks for the info FrontPageLawyer. I intend to do 3 countries in the region and spend about 12 days in total. A few questions:

1. Will the recommended travel insurance cover that?
2. Will I require hotel reservations if I will be staying with at a friend's place in Germany
3. Will I need an invitation letter from this friend?
4. In terms of flight reservation - unpaid reservations expires in a matter of days. How does one work that out? Do you need to make an actual payment?

Thanks in advance for your response.

1.The Travel health insurance shall cover and be valid throughout the territory of the Member States and also cover the entire period of your intended stay.

2. If your friend is inviting you, you will need a copy of his/her passport data page with the residence permit and also guarantor's form, issued by the Aliens Authority in Germany signed by your inviting friend. But if you are not staying with your friend, you need a confirmed hotel booking or proof of any other accommodation in Germany.

3. Yes you need a signed invitation letter from your friend if he/she is inviting you.

4. You don't have to pay in advance, book online or go to the airline you wish to use and get a confirmed print out, attach it to your document and disregard the expiration period on it. That's all you need.

My cousin went in for interview yesterday and from what he said, I think that German embassy is the best for Schengen visa application if the applicant is genuine, has solid travel plans and all documents intact. He was asked questions for over 30 minutes based on :
His current and past employment histories
Educational background
The Inviting Party/company

I just hope a successful interview guarantees visa. undecided cheesy

Documents he submitted are :
3 months personal bank statement
3 months company bank statement (he is applying for business visa)
CAC documents
Invoices and Receipts
Invitation letter (From a company in Berlin)
Ticket and detailed itinerary
Hotel booking (Directly from hotel portal)
Tax certificates
etc

You can say that again.

He should expect his package to be sent back in 10 working days. Did he include the host company's Registration certificate (German Handelsregisterauszug/gewerbeanmeldung) and his company's tax clearance certificate?

Dunno if he included the host registration certificate.

Does Germany has its embassy/consular or outsource interview point in Abuja?
Also, the visa fee of 60Euro will be charged at bank rate or official rate? For instance, airlines charge official rates.
Thanks

The German consulate is in Lagos, all interviews are conducted there.

The visa fee is N13,000 flat rate and you must show the cash before you're allowed into the consulate for your interview.

Your documents are in order except for the the host company's Registration certificate (German Handelsregisterauszug/gewerbeanmeldung) and prepaid self addressed envelope from a reputable courier company to return your documents and passport.

Also work on your strong.

If you're married, include your wedding certificate and wedding pictures.

If you have children, include their birth certificate from NPC.

Good luck

So I read on the checklist about photos being according to specifications but I couldn't find any thing about the spec of the photos to attach.

Is it the usual passport photo with light background?

I've always used IGI. You can buy your Travel Health Insurance online using your bank card.

How many weeks did yours cover and what cost?

They don't put costs on the site unless you do registration.

I want to compare them to the insurance I usually use.

Fpl thanks thanks a million for d great job u are doing on this thread. My wife and I intend to visit Germany via tourist visa. The challenge she has is that she works in a micro finance bank and she's paid cash monthly hence her account is always empty. I however work in a reputable fg org and can comfortably finance our trip. Since she is paid cash does she still need to submit an ac statement that is virtually empty. Can I use my pay slip and bank statement for both of us. Secondly do we fix d same date for our interview. Are we going to b interviewed together. Thanks

You're good to go, she'll need to submit her bank statement regardless of the closing balance. Your bank statement and pay slip is sufficient as the sponsor. You also have to arm yourself with strong ties to prove that you'll return back after your temporary visit.

Fpl thanks a lot knew I could count on u. Anyway d issue of strong family ties is another issue. Actually my mum and younger sis are citizens in Germany they Ve stayed there over 20 years. While filling d form do I need to mention that I have family members there. D only strong tie I have here is my well paying job. I intend to attach d total yearly emolument. Hope that wil b good enough. It's just my mum that's been bogging me to visit 4 d past 4 years I've practically run out of excuses to give her. Any Fpl thanks for use prompt reply I appreciate.

Definitely you must mention your family members in your application form and during the interview. Concerning your strong ties, actually, there is no standard definition for it. What constitutes strong ties will differ from individual to individual. Ties are the various aspects of your life that bind you to your country of residence e.g, family employment and possessions.

At your visa interview you have to be ready to present your case to the consular officer in a clear and concise manner. You only have a few minutes to convince the officer why you should be approved. You should have all the points you want to make outlined and you should have all your supporting documents in order and ready to present them both originals and photocopies.

No. Because it makes no economical sense for someone to spend thousands of euros on an adult vacationing. Except you're a minor (under 18) and sponsor is your parent. For an adult to qualify for a tourist visa, they must meet the visa requirements and have strong financial ties.
