Tanx man! I really appreciate your input
baodium:

Yeah, it wouldn't hurt to mention it if asked about scholarship. BTW, be prepared for the following follow-up question:

1) How do you intend to pay the remaining part of your tuition? "possible response: e.g. My uncle/My dad or so will help out with the remaining part of the tuition". If it is not someone that is directly related to you, you should have enough reason why the person will choose to invest a huge amount of money in your education.

2) What's the person into? or What's the annual income of the person? etc. "I wouldn't advise you to lie but say something realistic wink "

3) How did you get the scholarship? Even if you didn't do anything, I think it would be nice to say something like "I guess they were impressed with the quality of admission materials that I sent to them --> follow up with ejo wewe grin "

Man chill jare.. Just ignore and do your thing.everyone is entitled to their own opinion just as u said, don't take this too far

Chief thanks for your comment. I wasn't trying to influence anyone's opinion about America. I was just stating my opinion. So I wasn't proselytizing. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone has their life to lead, decisions to make and ambitions and future plans. I was just sharing mine. Apologies to any who got rubbed off the wrong way by them.

Mekurexx would bear me witness that it appears in this thread, the only people "allowed" to comment on America are people that are there already.

I won't be commenting further on this and would likely be leaving this thread. Anyone that needs my assistance in anyway (e.g. SoP review) should please mention or PM.

To bigfrancis21, imperiouxx, emmanuel, cutemorgan, slimmy2005 and the host of others I've benefited from, I say a big thank you.

All the best, everyone.

Felt I should share...
Was in Benin Republic yesterday to pay for my sevis fee, pls kindly note dis before heading to seme:
1. Don't think of putting the money in ur account to withdraw by ATM wen u get dia, Nigeria cards don't work in Benin Rep. Hold the cash with u as dia is an exchange point near the ecobank to change ur money.
2. Note that dia is an ecobank at the Nigeria side before crossing the border to Benin Rep, dat ecobank don't accept sevis fee.
3. Be sure u av ur coupon number, sevis number and ur international passport to process ur transaction.
4. To cross the border and coming back, hold close to #4000 as I was surprise at the rate in which border authorities extort people, pls make sure ur passport is stamped, don't fall victim as dia r bike men that will tell u to pay #600 to cross without stamping ur passport.
5. Sevis fee in Benin Rep is CFA130,000 which is about #70,000.
6. It is advicable u leave home early as I spent 4hrs to d border from Egbeda, while the bank closes by 5pm Nigeria time.
Thanks and best of luck
tanx for sharing

Don't leave this forum please. This is simply online thing and no one will take away your dignity. There had been some sorts of negativity about me here as well yet I remain very strong. grin

Some people even called me a criminal meanwhile they are the real criminals and are also on dating websites with fake profiles.

One of their members impersonated me but I had to use one of my numerous skills in IT to get his identity.

Don't let that bother you because they do not own Nairaland.

How should I start self? Well, GA is not automatic lipsrsealed . I am a CCNP and I really doubt they used that as a yardstick (in my case). However, I know three things can get you assistantship; 1) Your profile (GRE, GPA, SOP, etc.) 2) Your experience (if you have some industrial experience or you have published a paper) and 3) Availability of funding.
Of all, the third seems to be the most difficult to predict. My school used to have a lot of funding for MS in CS (but not anymore). However, I am almost certain you will get full funding if you come for MS in maths, physics or chemistry (My friends with way lower profile than myself got full funding before coming over). So if I told you that there is no funding in my school, you will automatically assume there is no funding in all departments. Funding is in cycle!

Solution:

1) The best thing you can do is to do a lot of background research about some schools. Sincerely with your profile, you should choose some good low ranked schools to boost your chances.

2) Send an email to all the professors in the dept (I can send a good template that I have been using to you - you may need to review some of their research papers tho).

3) Pray to God!

Good luck! smiley

Hey bro, please send me a template you send to professors for GA. Someone urgently needs it. Please visit my profile, you can directly email me. Thanks.

I think you took people's response to your post in a wrong light. A lot have said so and they are still here struggling it out. If you were traveling to the UK and made such comment a lot would have backed you up cos the atmosphere there is not favorable for international students. You are entitled to your opinion and it hasn't gotten to the point of just quitting the thread. We still need you here, at least among the very few bright minds with good intention of getting the best out of US education and not just as an escape route.

Hello house,

Can anyone help me with where I can buy the hard copy of the GRE materials in lag or any one who wants do dispose his or hers. Please let me know.

And the recommended books to buy.

Would have loved the e copies but nepa and other factors wouldn't allow that to pull through.

Lastly, Can anyone help me with tips on how to study for GRE with a 8-5 kinda job.

Thanks in advance
