geekybabe:If I bring a masters degree from University College London and another guy brings from University of Cape Town or Witts and we apply for the same job in SA the UCT or Witts guy will get the job loooong before me. SA people value their degree, its better u choose UK. Masters in UK is 1year, engineering and tech course in SA is 2 years with a minimum of 1 year full research of which you must produce a paper. Have seen UK engineers have seen SA engineers and I know UK schools just get name. We used to do exchange programmes together and I can say with a 100% surety that UK pple know nothing beside SA trained engineer |

staggerlee:@ staggerlee thank you for bailing me out. That's why I don't comment atimes on public forum. But for someone to have applied in all those schools and not granted admission calls for reasoning at all angles. I mentioned that(cgpa) as one out of aggregate of factors that I feel may be responsible. Everyone knows that everyday criteria for admission are going up. Also, I think my lines above are innocuous enough to have been excused from the altercations beneath. But I think it's always good all the time to apply education to our reasoning and vice versa. |

geekybabe:you might be correct with the UK schools as being better than those in SA or elsewhere, however, one thing you should know is that UK is after your money, the schools are a great source of income to their government, therefore, everybody is welcome into the country as long as u can afford the fees. I know of someone who didn't even have a credit in Maths at O'level yet got admitted into a university in the UK to study Computer science, the dude is now on his masters. You can agree with me that no university in Nigeria for any reason will admit one into computer sci without a credit in Maths. I even know of people with 3rd class going for masters in that same UK, therefore, UK, shouldn't even be a yard stick to measure educational competence or ability. since you've stated that u hav a brother and some friends in SA, why don't u contact them directly and ask them how they got admission for their postgraduate studies? I will however advise that you should come up with an interesting and novel project proposal asap. Any prospective supervisor(which is most important in post-graduate admission process) will surely wanna see that.. Goodluck |

geekybabe:Well said... though the CGPA isn't fantastic, I think it might not be THE MAIN problem with your application. For most research studies you would need to submit a proposal and I can tell you for free that if your proposal is not spot-on it could deny you a fair chance even if you hold a first class degree. Don't be deterred just sit with your proposal again and come up with something that addresses a nagging lacuna in scholarship - in your field that is. I could add one or two ten cents if you need. |

meagainstdem:The bitter truth is, none of these top schools will give one direct MSc (in Research!!!) with a 3.21 CGPA from a Nigerian university. None! The odds are against one already. I know people on this forum with 4.77/5.00 who still needed a lot of brushing before taking on MSc. Research in Computer Engineering. Sometimes we are confident in our abilities but the truth is a massive gap exists. You will need to learn many MLs from Coursera and take undergraduate courses. That's a given. My advice: Take honours if you must do an MSc. There must be reasons your CGPA ended up at 3.21. |

davoo009:You can apply for your transcript using ETX-NG. I used them before. They deliver wherever you need them to including to you. |

Hello guys in the house. Thank y'all for your help. i want to make few enquiries. 1. Do SA universities accept Nigeria ND certificate for direct entry? 2. What is the maximum age for admission into undergraduate studies? 3. What's the requirements for getting admission faster into SA universities 4. What are the best universities in SA 5. And finally what is the duration of most science courses in SA universities? Thank you and anybody that is willing to answer me. God Bless. |

| Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by stevetop(m): 1:30pm On Apr 10, 2016 |
ZiggyMr:You might have a chance provided you can come up with a proposal that addresses an important issue - better still an area that hasn't been too well researched. Another clue is to lookout for the research interests of lecturers in schools of your choice, it might give you some clues as to what will interest them. I know Stellenbosch has a page where they host completed theses, you can download and read some- it helps to shape your critical thinking and the formulation of tenable research questions. All the Best. |

| Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by samtol4(m): 12:53pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
geekybabe:The problem is not your CGPA though some schools said it is low ,you need to write quality proposal that will attract potential supervisors,Unfortunately many students can not take time to write a good proposal .Sister check your proposal again and resubmit .I know a lady with the same 3.2 like yours and she was admitted for Masters(Mech.Engeering). |
| Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by samtol4(m): 12:55pm On Apr 11, 2016 |
ZiggyMr:.You need a research proposal for Masters. The quality of the proposal determine if the school will take you or not for masters . |

Good day everyone, please I want to apply for a M.sc Degree in Medical Microbiology is the University of Pretoria... Pls our expirenced "heads" here can you give me advice on what to do and what not to do..... General Postgraduate admission requirements etc... Thanks in Anticipation.... |
| Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by stevetop(m): 7:24am On Apr 12, 2016 |
geekybabe:My man I can tell you for free that if you search properly you will find a school that caters for your research interest. S.A Universities have professionals in diverse fields and capacity- except ur research deals with a rare Nigerian issue. Meanwhile your interest not being expressly stated on the research pages of the schools or their lecturers doesn't mean some will not be interested. South African researchers are quite flexible and open to new ideas - I know of someone working on 'magun' thunderbolt - despite south African never hearing about it before. He even got a scholarship. Like people have advised you here, make your proposal catchy with a proper research framework and a recent theory... I know most Nigerian don't have a proper grasp of theories. Best. |
