There is no need to indulge in personal attacks and remarks, especially since we are in an anonymous forum. Whatever someone is or pretends to be, is of no value here, let's try to stick to the issues.

On the issue at stake here - Colonization - I think Logicbwoy is right. I do not always agree with his methods and remarks, but on this issue, simple objectivity can't deny he is right.

First of all, some of you speak as if colonization is something of the Past. Whereas we all know, it is still very living, although in some parts of Africa like in the francophone part of Africa, the impact is heavier. Those in the know, should just follow the geopolitics of countries like Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Niger, etc. or discuss with citizens of those countries. On request, I may deepen this, with concrete facts and examples, but is it really necessary for any objective mind?

Furthermore, to claim that Christianity built Europe, is to look at history with apologetic intends. Europe experienced (economic and societal) growth and freedom due to rationalism and the age of enlightenment. Religion in itself is neutral. It is men that use it to contribute or prevent development. And in History, all religions have been used for both purposes, and it should be noted than religions have usually prevented (economic/societal) development rather than promote it. Before the age of Enlightenment and rationalism in europe, it was superstition, monarchy, despotism, and of course poverty for the masses, and this is well documented.

The present problem of the Europe is not the fall of Christianity. The present problem of Europe is the negative long term repercussions of his actions of the past. The western world has failed to live to the level of their noble ideology in their interaction with other people. They preached equality but actively promoted superiority. They spoke about freedom of all, but enslaved others. In doing so, they created a context in which, the european paradigm would benefit them and them only. In such a context, all the people from impoverished nations around -many of those nation being poor thanks to imperialism - developped some form of hatred and anger, which although unethical, is understandable.

Yes, there are internal reasons that explain why Africa is Backward. Among these is a culture of accommodating to life circumstances rather than fighting against life and the gods (like the greeks) and striving to find internal happiness in the midst of the storm. This however, is not sufficient argument to claim that the impact of colonization and neo colonization should be minimized.

Again, there are other cultures and people who have been enslaved. Some managed to get out of it quicker than africans, and some other did not manage, and did not even survived. Nothwithstanding, this is no sound basis for Comparison. Because the way people and cultures have been put under the yoke and the aim of their "masters" differ. In the case of Africa, the spiritual and cultural foundation of the continent has been destroyed fundamentally and this is not easy to recover from.

Colonization is no reason to remain helpless and powerless. Africa shall rise again. However, every good cure should start by an objective diagnosis, rather than just blaming.

Its clear to me most people in this discussion have had a limit exposure to the most important historical resources and dont know well european history, leave alone african history (in which the reconstruction is even more complex due to the fact that sources are limitit, of different nature and cant be looked at through western civilisation paradigma). Hence i will step back out of the discussion. If i wld have time i wld set up a topic with references that wld make u see the vision u have is lacking good insight into the foundations and most of all knowledge and balanced analysis.
In the end, none of us owns the truth, we can only try to reach as close as possible and every contribution here can be an invitation to keep searching and keep doubting.

Well it's okay, everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion. While at that, I'll advice all that it's ill indoctrinating such personal opinion to someone else as everyone has a unique personality. If a common ground can't be reached then let all agree to disagree. Hope everyone concurs
