I am about to build an android app, so I contracted a developer for the job. But he said two things are needed. BACKEND API and WEB SERVER.

Now, this is my first time investing in this tech area and these jargons are just hard to understand. Please can someone help me explain what BACK END API and WEB SERVER means and how I can get them? It's urgent please...

Well u are about to be SCAMMED (with those jargons ).

if ur andriod app requires data that needs to be updated frequently, u need a space on google cloud (a service provided by google for android apps) which will serve as a data store for ur application. this data store is generally called backend where ur application can connect to access and store data. In simple terms, it is just like hosting a site where u pay webhost companies to host ur website. since u are not tech-savvy i won't go into details.

The developer should acquire that service for u as part of the deal without throwing those jargons around. i hope i have been able to simplify it or maybe someone else would do better explanation.

so basically, u will pay google to host the application data (backend) and the developer's fee.

If you know nothing about dev, you better remain quiet... Why would you label something you know little about as Scam?

the google cloud service provides a platform for all the jargons he said. everything (data + backend API including the WEB SERVER ish) will be hosted on the cloud which will serve as backend for the android app.

what he said was not bad but the jargons he threw around without explaining the process is unprofessional.

actually i have done the consultancy service he is supposed to provide as part of his service so i need to be paid.
