Question: What is on your bedsidetable? In terms of literature tongue. What book/publication are you reading these days? Why did you pick it? How is the read sofar?

@ LoJ, Sonoflucifer, reyginus, logicbwoy, plaetton, winner01, joshthefirst, dblackninja, An0nimus, Ishilove, firestar, sirewere, Isaacbuchi, UyiIredia, plaetton, undercat, thisisjboy, antiparticle, etc anyone
I read like a crazy scientist or is a confused lazy boy who can't decide exactly what he wants to eat. Lol. Just finished reading an analysis of Gerard Hopkins Poetry and the Trial of Socrates and Phaedo. Right now, I'm on Martin Meredith Born in Africa. Why I choose it? I don't choose o. Lol. Like the book says The quest for the origins of human life'. It's been good so far. Still on chapter one. You know what Oldoway means in German?

The Audacity Of Hope by Barrack Hussein Obama. Saw it amongst a pile of books owned by my cousin's late dad, it stood out so I picked it. So far, so good, it's a political book.

Mmm, I like your library sofar. Maybe you can share something about the books..some poetry....or some interesting quotes?

What Oldoway means in German? No clue, really, I am not a german tongue, maybe JoL knows. But considering the topic of your book you maybe refer to the archeological site in Tanzania? Oldoway from Olduvai (from Oldupai Gorge). I dont recognize any german word in it, I thought oldupai is a maasai word for a sort of plant that grows there.

Please keep us updated when you read something new in the book, something nobody before him already wrote or said ;-). I am curious.

On my bedsidetable you can find no serious intellectual reading this time but a novel. Recently, I got a doctor's prescription that prescribes me to only chill when I don't work, so if you wonder why I m suddenly so chilly, its not by choice or that I dont have anything better to do...

In order to facilitate my obligatory chilling courses, I decided to visit the local bookstores. When going through the small stock of books in English, I got attracted by the title "Ghana must go", written by Taiye Selasi. It made me thing about the bags of "Osuofia in London"...and it made me laugh again. I cant really say anything of sense about the content yet because...everytime I start reading the first page I somehow fall asleep. Seems the book is really having a chilly effect on me grin. But no worries...if I manage to make it to page 2 etc..and I find something interesting, I will keep you tuned!

Nothing for now. Recently finished 'How Europe Undeveloped Africa' and it was a very interesting read. I picked it out of curiosity and it's broadened my knowledge on some pre-conceived notions. Towards the end of the book it hit me that a good part Africa is still facing what Walter Rodney wrote about decades ago. I still carry the book around. You never know when you'll meet vehicular traffic lol.

Thanks for sharing! Why not pick a new read to kill time in traffic? Maybe another book about the same topic that balances the somehow controversial and outdated analysis (mixed with personal convictions) of Walter. I think when you read books on a topic like this you should read it as one book among many others. Look at the quality of the sources used, the inclusion and exclusion (selection) of sources, the limitations of the research, the generalisations, the angel from which the author is looking at it (how he coloured interpretations and how he made his analysis), etc. You will probably notice that is dangerous to read one book and think its the truth about a situation. Rather see it as giving an interesting hypothesis and search for anything that can support or undermine the hypothesis. I really encourage to always keep searching the truth yourself and to never just believe what u read because its written.

If you would like to get inspiration for a next book we might recommend some smiley. Should be actually nice if we can swab books. Is there something like that in Nigeria? Here we have those coffeestores which have bookshelfs where you bring your book when u have finished it and chose another book someone else brought there. So you give your book a second life while you enjoy a new read yourself. Maybe I shld become bookbarista overthere hahahaha? Anyone up for business cheesy
Re: Searching & Sharing Chat by An0nimus: 7:26am On Apr 14, 2016
@ Tufanja

That's an interesting way to read. I admit I don't read with that in mind: the endless search for 'truth'. I was also reading Why nations fail by Daron Acemoglu. Never got to finishing it before my smartphone died an untimely death lol. I'm a zig-zag reader somewhat. Today can be Walter Rodney, next a book on time management, then Stormlight Archives, then a christian book then good ol' Dean Koontz. Whatever my mind feels is right for that time. My physical library is almost non-existent so not much swapping from me. Electronically, getting most books isn't too difficult. Though nowadays I prefer hard copies for traffic and electricity reasons grin
Re: Searching & Sharing Chat by An0nimus: 7:33am On Apr 14, 2016
On book swapping, I might not know of any but Nigeria is full of many interesting people so I'm sure there are gatherings like that. Somewhere in lagos/Abuja/Port Harcourt right now, Tola/Musa/Chika might be telling a whatsapp group of their next swapping date and venue.

Are you still a christian after reading the book?
Re: Searching & Sharing Chat by Logicbwoy: 9:30am On Apr 14, 2016
@ Tufanja.

I read anything and everything. This is why I know a bit of everything. From poetry to business to anatomy to politics to biographies to horror novels.

There is a funny irony to all of this- the only book at my bedside is a bible which I never read. It is by my bed-drawer or cupboard or night-stool or whatever it is called. It was put there by a relative and it has been there since.

Another irony is that I have never read a book about satanism. Sonoflucifer? Never once even though I had opportunities to read it twice. I guess, some christian habits never die.

Yeah. It's a massai word oldupai but the anthropologist confused it for oldoway. One of the quotes:

'In one of his visits to the British Museum he was pointed out by a clergyman as 'The Most Dangerous Man in England' Lol. Talking about Charles Darwin.

Logicbwoy will like this next one.

'Darling I hope this theory of man originating from Africa is not true, if it's true I hope it's not widely known'. Lol. That's a bishop's wife on Darwin's Natural Selection and Africa man's likely origin.

I stole that book from my elder brother's collection of books locked away. Lol. After listening to him talk about the man and the book I wasn't loyal enough to ask him for it. Lol. I had that 'I too know' mentality when I was growing up. I was 16 then. How foolish? Lol. You'd like 'They Had A Dream' by Jules Archer too. It's about Frederick Douglas, Marcus Garvey, Martin Luther King and Malcolm X.

Lol. You can start by reading the sixth and seven books of Moses. I would wholeheartedly offer it to you if you are close to Abuja. I'm in Suleja.

Sixth and Seventh book of Moses? What is it about?

Also, you know that I'm not an Abuja boy. But I have a place there when I'm there for business. You want to meet up? Is Asokoro a far distance?

How do you know that I won't beat the shite out of you before collecting the book.

As far as I know it refers to those big bags with the funny patterns that were used by Ghanese people in Nigeria to pack all there belongings after they were ordered in 1983 to leave on short notice the country back to ghana. They "must go" back to "Ghana". I also have such a bag cheesy.

Anything else I should know?
