Your concerns have been noted. However, I would like to inform you that Nigeria has the raw materials it needs to diversify its economy. What it does not have is the infrastructure and political will to do so. Which is why Buhari is taking an aggressive approach towards developing the Infrastructure hence, his deal with the Chinese is mainly based on infrastructural development. We can source money from the Chinese too buy encouraging them to invest in our country directly (which is better than what our Western partners are offering us). The deal with China is a win-win for both countries. Devaluation of the Naira is a win for the West and a loss for Nigeria so Nigerians are supporting the Chinese option because Nigerians are not losers.

Your highlighted comment above is really what it comes down to - a lot of Nigerians desperately want to believe that there is some magic formula that will preserve the country's aggregate spending power despite a collapse in export income, all logic be damned. The refusal to devalue has led to chronic dollar shortages has it has made the dollar tpp cheap leading to excessive demand at the official market. Also, individuals and companies with forex refuse to sell at the official rate because the price is to low. Who is pleased receiving WU at 197? Not me.

One of the causes of the epic and persistent petrol scarcity is the scarcity of forex by provate oil marketers to import petrol and augment government's effort. The weight is too much for the government to carry.

Soludo, Sanusi and Utomi have all ciondemned Buhari's policies! The naira should touch 400 at the black market if he does not devalue. The economy is doomed!

For diversification to work, some things have to be put in place. It will not appear overnight by itself. Other structures (stable electricity, policies and incentives that encourage the local manufacturer among others) need to be put in place.

Even if the structures are in place, you still need raw materials and some other things which a manufacturer will need to source from other countries. To do this, one needs forex.

As long as forex is not readily available, forget your diversification theory. Whether you like it or not, you need money to make money and it's not naira we are talking about.

Lastly, I don't work with IMF, I am just a concerned citizen.

It is true that the idea will be harder in reality due to attempts that will be made to sabotage Buhari's government but it can be achieved if we support the President, after all, it is in our own interest.

They told Babangida Regime and Sonekan same thing and the scar is still on naira till today. PMB has people around him to know better than to dance to the tune of IMF. When i was in school, we use to study IMF conditionalities and even now, these conditionalities have not changed, just that liberal marriage law(same sex marriage has been added). Like i keep saying, let us manage our economy our own way. China did it, they are creditor to US today. UAE did it, they have become the 8th wonder of the modern world., Japan has done it and they are still doing it, why not Nigeria? Is IMF afraid of the outcome, the freedom the development after these economic wilderness? We have too many professors in this government not to have considered this option in the first place. The colonial master want to continue the plundering that left african continent in the mess we are today. Madam IMF should leave us alone.

Thanks, i wonder how some Nigerians think or believe that Largarde loves Nigeria and Nigerians more than Buhari. Since the seventies IMF have been teleguiding our past presidents, where has that taken us? Countries like Singapore, China and co, that broke off to do their own thing are better off today. It is not to the West interest that Nigeria becomes a reliant Nation, Hate Pmb all you want, but know that Largarde does not love you either.

No one disputes that. Just that Nigeria doesn't share the same foundation as the country you just compared her with and will always be vulnerable except the foundation is relaid through a genuine national conference accompanied with immediate constitutional amendment.

By the way, Intermarriage does not unite ethnics nor countries - It basically starts and ends with the families involved and some of those families don't still get united.

We are the ones making ourselves vulnerable through our clannish attitudes, no constitutional amendment can solve that, despite the foundation of united states, racism is stiil an issue but how come they are so advanced? Sincerity of purpose is key here. We once had true federalism working wonders in the 60s but the same clannish behaviour of some misguided young fellows destroyed the best system of govt we ever had, now we have seen the value and we are crying day and night to have it back. We need to purge ourselves of our clannish tendencies before we can get truly developed.
