South Africa got its independence in 1910

UDF = SADF = SANDF

I think its sad that you are so obsessed with arguing that you have to make such petulant statements.

So, you asked what we have done - consider yourself told
so what was the reason for the big party you held in 1994 ?

To be honest it doesn't specify gunships but it was allegedly for human rights abuses. Despite the El Adde disaster it wasn't a failure of equipment, personnel or training;imo it was intel. Once that half ton BVBIED levelled the TOC and the mortar pos the coy was lost since all the officers and NCOs were KIA . AT THAT POINT ALL THE MIG 29s/F 15s/Su 35s EVEN GRIPS,GODDAMMIT WOULDN'T HAVE SAVED THE SURVIVORS! Incidentally the few survivors were from an overwatching section. Trust me the aircav Z9s and MD 500s along with the KAF F5s are adequate for Somalia. I get the impression you imagine the US has a secret deux a machina. You don't need AC 130S and or Apaches for this kind of fight.

I saw the video of the base attack

Most of the base seemed unaffected after the VBID attack, there were at least 2 Panhard AML's and one WZ still running around during the battle, with the inner defences still intact.

It was simply a question of a poorly constructed base and poor intelligence (they should have had OP's out) and perhaps a lack of certain fundamental drills (dawn/dusk stand-to) and no fire support. But that is just guess work from me watching a one-sided propaganda video

But yes I agree, in the 15-20 min it would have taken air-support to arrive the AS fighters would have been inside the base allready.

Obviously having a huge VBID go off will cause massive confusion at first, but if everyone knows where to go it shouldent be a problem for more than 10min. But, on the otherhand, I think it was Napoleon who said that a battle can be lost in a single minute.

But I know that the Kenyan MOD will scrutinize the video and makes the necessary changes

so what changed that now nigeria military is now getting equipments and training from the US !That nonsense we are being told by the MOD was destroyed is pure rubbish,in the photos and footage released by alshabaab,a kenya army land rover used for Comms can clearly be seen in possesion of alshabaab. basically from your comment i dont think you have clue about anything relate to military.what i am here from you is just politician talk.you need to have an interest on something before you have an opinion about it ,if you still assume there is no difference between a GBU-12 and Mark 82 Bomb.i dont know why we are having this discussion

i have to agree with about the poorly constructed outpost but the issue of their state of alertness i have to disagree with most of the soldier killed had their gear even their boots.i have had one concern about how KDF constructs its outpost from the leaked video on an attack in lamu on a KDF outpost ,the alshabaab sneaked so close that they were next to a parked APC in the camp outpost

if you observe outpost constructed by the americans in afganistan ,with a perimeter made from Hesco bastions over 10 feet high with razor wire on top and towers at each corner .also they made sure they clear view of the surrounding area, compare el adde where thick bushes surrounded the outpost even inside the out post

Building these kind of strong outpost is cost effective; and that's what some african/sub-sahara countries are facing; poor funding, training and equipping of troops in the frontlines.

It will take an heavily laiden car bomb to take out that type of wall, and even before it gets to the wall it will be already taken out.

Ground based early warning systems

The Lamu outpost looked like the chaps had just stopped to rest, I mean from the video it didn't look like there was any fence, trenches etc

I suppose you mean it isn't cost effective. Where would militaries in Africa get the money to finance outposts like that. That particular US military outpost cost nothing short of $15 - 20 million to construct.

It is great, but where would the money come from, are we going to sh1t $20 million for every El adde and Doron-Baga. When we are done building at this cost, would we then kneel down, pray to God to give us money for Ammo, equipment and APC because we have invested all our money in building 4 outposts?

What we should do is to develop cost effective military solutions to our monumental problems, just as the Russians did in Syria and not to fight wars like the US or it's NATO allies, who even by the way do not even have the money to fund their militaries like the U.S. The U.S contributes 73% of all NATO funding.

Look at those photos posted by Africaken, that outpost would set any army nothing lower than $15 million to construct.
They aren't that expensive until you realise you need to build 30 outposts in the AO.

Are African militaries going to sh1t out the money to construct that?

Let's me not even try to be delusional, the Nigerian military cannot build outpost that look like that.

The Nigerian solution to out post defence has been to first construct trenches round the bases. Build 4 Sentry positions, add sand bags, deploy 2 soldiers each, taking 2 hours turns.

who much would it cost to build a hesco bastion perimeter wall then ?i am not talking about the air conditioned tents, the generator ,the fuel dump e.t.c

First off, you are guessing the price

Second off, hesco barriers cost $1 dollar a unit, so you can get 1000 for $1000 which gives you 5km of hesco wall

Third off, a second hand mini digger goes (according to google) for 18 000 Pound Sterling
http://www.mascus.co.uk/construction/used-mini-diggers-excavators-7

So, for an investment of $19 000 you get 5km of hesco and a machine to quickly load them. But, that is only the initial capital investment, in real terms you are looking at $1000-$2000 per FOB or patrol house as you can move your diggers from one place to the next.

American bases are expensive because they bring all the luxuries of life into their bases... including KFC and Burger King grin

Basic earth fortifications are cheap
