Pharisees wink were devout Jews, but were known to be the people that often fell on the side of Jesus' strong rebuke. It wasn't that He didn't love them because God loves everyone, but He admonished their self-righteous attitudes and perceived self-worth.

While most of us may not believe that we're at the level of being self-righteous, we should always be careful and look deeply into ourselves regularly to check for signs that we are becoming arrogant and judging others rather than ourselves.

It may be important to note that the pharisees also didn't believe they were acting in a self-righteous way either. They didn't wake up and think, "Oh, I think I'll be a moralistic and self-righteous believer today." Moralistic tendencies are actually in all of us to some extent because it is our default to think in a moral framework. While this is not all that bad, it's not all that harmless either.

Here are 12 different signs that we can use to check ourselves to make sure we are not falling into "pharisee-ism" and becoming self-rightous and judgmental.

1. We are quick to ignore our own mistakes, and even quicker to spot the mistakes of others.

2. We focus on our skills and strengths and ignore our weaknesses. That's not to say that we should ignore our strengths and emphasize our weaknesses, but we must be aware of both and accept them as always present.

3. We act differently when in front of people than when we are all alone by ourselves.

4. We value tradition more than people.

5. We value results over relationships. Results are good, but they are best acquired when done together.

6. We insist that people follow our way of doing things -- the way we raise our kids, the way we teach, the way we lead or even the way we worship.

7. We become attracted to the spotlight and find every opportunity to be placed in it.

8. We're always looking for the perks and never sacrificing benefits for the sake of others.

9. We take honor more than we give it.

10. We value convenience over serving others, and often find it hard to go out of our way for those who are of an apparent lower stature than ourselves.

11. We preach advice over the good news.

12. We do things to obtain the praise of man, rather than the praise of God.

Taking praise and worship with rihana hairstyle on her head, or on skinny pants on the alter.

Dancing shokki, abi na shokey, in the church, even on the alter.

Seriously, I don't understand anymore. Back in the days, the world singers would rephrase gospel songs to make their song, today the reverse is the case. In those days, Jerry and Pammy hairstyle was a sin for ladies, but today pastors fry dia hair. In those days, the prophets rebooked the kings, but today the kings invite the prophets for court hearings.

No single Bible Quotation, we are Christians, born of the word. How would you approach a topic of this magnitude without backing it with scriptures,so that those guilty will be convinced that truly its from scriptures, not some fragments of your imagination. But for me I got the points and the message, more grace be upon us all.

This has nothing to do with the post.

So pharisees were carrying mohawk to church and dancing kerewa there?

You have just displayed phareeseism in todays's Christians. Don't judge others or question how they serve God. You are nobody to determine the right way of serving.

Do your own and leave the shoki dancers to do theirs

it has always been so since the first day of inventing religion. Even Moses did this and when he was challenged, his challengers were punished with leprosy. As long as religion exists, self righteous is the order of the day. Have you not heard? THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE"

They are the first to counter their fellow Christians especially when favor is coming to such Christians. They will finish the person with their tongues cos of envy and immediately starts speaking in tongues or singing praises and worship. No sign of repentance or restitution for such action at all. May God continue to lead us all in Jesus name. Amen.

14. Doing things that please them rather what God requires of them...

Example... A born-again sister would rather be dating two guys without knowledge of the fiances, and will be praying to God to choose on her behalf...

This is what we called self-righteousness...

Shut your mouth up girl! The young man raised a very salient issue that needs to be addressed in the christendom and there you are criticizing him. If you are affected by the words of wisdom he spoke, then amend your ways. You can never mix the things of the world with the things of God. How can a true believer dance shoki? He can't! The truth is; "songs/dancing steps that came from heaven know the way back to heaven". Where did shoki/skelewu/alanta/etc come from? From God? Of course not! They are from the pit of hell. That's why we no longer see God come down after praise/worship like before. Because people don't pass the four walls of church, let alone reaching heaven. We are in the world, but we have been told not to be of the world.

So true.

I know two sisters who used to use weavons and relaxers and decided to stop using them two years back including jewelries. Now everyone around them who don't dress or act like them is a sinner. They don't wear trousers, earrings, necklaces or use relaxer on their hair yet one of them got married three months ago with pregnancy. She used hair clips and also wears ring now(what is the difference between the hair clip, ring and the earrings and necklace she has stopped wearing)? Is wearing of those things sin while fornication isn't?

Some people just keep deceiving themselves.

See, we should stop deceiving ourselves, rather keep on calling a spade a spade. This isn't about religion, but what's right and reasonable. Starting with the two ladies you cited, they just didn't understand that christianity is a personal race/conviction/dealing with God. Our pastor (Founder) said he was using necklace while he was growing up as a christian. But, he got convinced along the line and stopped. There are some habits/traits that as you dig deep in the word, get closer to the spirit (personally) you'll do away with. This can't be forced/rubbed on people. No, it can't! I always believe; God that took it away from me will also deal with him/her when the time is right. But, there are some basic principles and rules that applies to everybody in general; we aren't permitted to bring worldly things (songs, dances, dress, slang, etc) into the presence of God. That's the point!

another ignorant fellow.

If you know you can't address people without coming off as a street thug, then keep your ignorant opinion to yourself.

Not one disciple ever addressed people with 'shut up', yet your ilk are the ones promoting 'christianity' in it's 'true form'...by being rude? Mtcheeewwww, pharisee
