I was up this morning as the crow dawn. Living in the neighborhood where churches and mosques gives their early morning sermon to spice up your day. I overheard the imam condemning birthday celestation as a waste of resources and not religious. Without sentiment, i have seen some grand imams and pastors celebrating birthday in style lavishing millions with joy. Please i will like to know what is wrong about celebrating a birthday cos am about to celebrate mine comes april 25th. Kindly back up your point with quran and bible verses that condemned it. Happy sunday!

Simply put, No worshiper of God celebrated their Birthdays in the Bible, the only 2 accounts of birthday celebration recorded in the Bible was done by pagans ( Herod and Potifah).

If celebrating birthday was so important in the lives of Christians, Jesus would have asked his followers to do so or even celebrate his, and it would have been penned down by bible writers.

thanks for throwing more light on that. so people just chose to celebrate birthday without any religious book backing... should i strictly adhere to what was preached this morning?

Whether its in the bible or not, i will always celebrate my birthday if i see the money.With all the hardship in this country,its a blessing to live to see another year so celebrate it like its nobody's business.

Lol. That's why we shd be sensitive to d demerits that comes with civilization. In d bible birthday wasn't celebrated (well there was no calendar those days sha and many didn't even knw their date of birth). But now it has become almost a sin if a christian doesn't at least give his spouse a birthday suprise including celebration. A time will still come when birthday celebrations will mean a lot more than salvation and Godliness.

But this is my stand; I love celebrating birthdays for myself, my wife and kids (when I get married) even if I don't have money to throw a big party and doesn't have to be a big party really. What I love is the memorable felicity. But in any special moment I celebrate, God comes 1st; that's one of my mentor's policy (pstor adeboye of rccg) and that's where I stand

So have fun op but don't forget God.
