It's not about "fighting". It is about speaking out against evil.

Read the piece and stop criticising for the sake of it. Soyinka's sacrifices as a young man were acknowledged.

What if wole Soyinka is silent because there is nothing to say?
What if he is silent because the country us working its way towards change?
What if he is silent be cause he believes in Mr. President?
What if he is silent because he is a sensible Nigerian who knows how to understand situations and make sacrifices for the greater good?

I believe we all should try and be patience. Its a good virtue.!

Try and speak to the world in an intelligent manner....they'll listen to you.

My dear, let the man rest.

He hasn't got the energy anymore. Even granting interviews isn't easy.

There are still elders like Anyaoku, Ekwueme etc. Let them talk too.

But what effort are you putting in to the matter? Does your activism end on NL?

And soyinka has fought his fight for Nigerians and Africa. We are the ones to fight this. Not Soyinka

@OP, How many fights have you been involved in since you were born?

Soyinka tasted prison as a 28 year old fighting injustice in 1962. He went to prison again for 3 years because of Biafra in 1967. Countless brushes with the govts since then.

Where were you in 2010 when he, bakare, odumakin etc were trekking under the sun for Jonathan to be set free from Turai's cage?

Were you not on earth when he was televised advising buhari to convene an economic summit?

You want an 82 year old man to be fighting your battle? Are you not ashamed? You stay on internet ranting everyday and you stay waiting for a grand father to keep fighting for your future. A 23 year old Tunisian started the Arab spring, what are you waiting for?

The man has paid his dues pls. Let him enjoy the few years he has left abeg.
Epic response.

I wept for Soyinka's freedom of expression when I noticed his unusual friendship with the Amaechi
So I'm not surprised that this is happening now

God bless you, You've asked the right questions, you've said it all, Soyinka is not a wailer, he sees no reason to wail because he knows PMB is on the right track

I wonder if this op has conscience at all. Like a free minded person wole soyinka needs to watch and study this current situation very well. Not that he has nothing to say. He understands the calamity that 16 perilous years have done us and what wailers are expecting after sucking the nation dry. Buhari did not cause this current misfortune, rather he is in to clean a Longtime decay of our system and to set us on the glorious path.
very elementary

You can be a Soyinka. He stood up for biafra in the 60s. Must we run to their generation for salvation? The youths are here on NL abusing themselves, while we wait for Wole Soyinka to talk. How old is Malala Yousafzai? angry. 14!

The old professor should keep mum till his self esteem is healed enough to speak out . That dinner he had with them alone has sealed/dried his pool of thoughts . He is still wondering and trying to come to terms with the situation of things - how some men conned him into eating with them . Sitting even idly on the fence would have helped push baba to speak during this moment . But well , the man died just like the biblical Esau that sold his rights for a plate of delicious porridge at the detriment of his mental freedom. SMH

God will bless you for this sensible post. Nigerian youths like to be spoon fed all their lives. They are too timid to initiate any movement.

82 years old man who mortgage his children's future over a pot of porridge provided by the lizard of Ubima should speak out and apologise to his children for deceiving them into voting a tyrant if he has any integrity left.

At the age of 80, if am right, don't you think Soyinka has paid his dues taking on successive government over the years. What are you waiting for? Why not take the baton and run with it instead of waiting for Soyinka to continue to carry the cross for you.

Shame de catch for that old man who at the twilight of his life betrayed all he stood for just for a porrage of yam. Quite pathetic. Sometimes what matters in life isn't how well u started but how well u end. Our revered Soyinka is ending on a wrong footing..

Smh. The ignorance and immorality in this country is infectious. So, Soyinka's already paid the price for truth and should be commended for his Silence? Wow. The ignorance on this thread in sickening. So can I say the man has died in him?
The man died in him the moment he devoured that N82million sumptous dinner offered by that Bubu man in Rivers. The once fearless mouth of the masses got gagged.

Soyinka was vehement in his attack against Gej. At least it's expected that he should speak against the ills of this country today for CONSCIENCE sake. He was one of the reasons Gej was voted out. He gave Buhari his vote of confidence. 82 million was spent in hosting him. I guess his conscience has been bought.
