To cater for the discrepscies in compaction and the unavailibality of hardcore, we have introduced a reinfrocement mat made up of Y8 spaced at 300mm c/c in both directions... This would increase the DPC ressitance to settlement.

Work for this stage of the job includes the following :
Rebar work for 40 columns
Block work for about 5000 blocks (estimated value)
Column formwork
Lintel formwork (chain lintel)
Column casting
Lintel rebar ( bar bending work)
Lintel casting.


For the iron work/reinforcement work, we have 4 good iron bending technicians working under strict supervision to bend bar according to structural drawings.

The length of each of the column reinforcement is 4m (this means one length of bar which is 12m/4m will cut three bar each)
The bar used for the ground floor column is Y16
The links for the ground floor pillars are spaced @200mm center to center and the bar diameter is 8mm (Y8).

Quantity of bar used for the ground floor columns :
Number of bar per column = 4 nr of 4m length bar
Total number of pillars ( columns) = 40
Total number of 4m bar required = 40 x 4 = 160
Since we can get 3 nr of 4m bar from one length of of bar (12m).
We have 160/3 = 54bars
The links, ring or styrub = 40bars.

The mix ratio for the block work mortar is 1:6 by mass, that is one bag of cement to 12 head pan of sand.

We are at the lintel level now after three days block laying job by six able bricklayers.

Because it is lintel : lintel have short opening (maximum of 1.2m for this job), hence the bending moment is so small that you only need to provide nominal reinforcement at the bottom, but since a beam must have four reinforcement for robustness, we decide to provide two Y10 bottoms and 2Y10 top with links spaced 300mm c/c (maximum spacing of links should be 300mm)
