Emancipation:

So here is what will happen next,

1) The Fulanis will settle there and start having children. possibly with locally kidnapped women or other northerners

2) Those children in 20 years will grow up and claim that the land belongs to their ancestors just like they did in plateau state.

3) Fight will begin between those Fulani children and the local community.

4) Federal government will step in and split the community in half for peace and give to the fulani descendants what doesn't belong to them.

5) With their newly gained power, they will start fighting for political power and dominance of the area.

Everything I just wrote has already happened before so NOBODY can say that I am making this up.

This nigga just said it all, if you allow the Fulani settle, you may never have peace in your land.
They are just too crude and loathe eduaction, how then should I live with such people.

You have brought up an interesting issue. If Fulani herdsmen are not our problem then why should the government consider provision of grazing fields to end the violence. Although, I believe that the herdsmen need grazing fields regardless of whether or not it would end the violence, the violence of cattle rustlers(whoever they are) is what most people are concerned about.

Also, I read about the forceful acquisition of ancestral lands to help the herdsmen. Government have always had to do some things forcefully in public interest. We all know that our meat primarily comes from the North, therefore they provide a public service to everyone in the country. We need them as much as they need us. If at all the government would acquire lands forcefully, they should be willing to pay the full value of the lands.

IMO, I think they are better off granting grazing licence to private individuals. That way, they won't need to acquire lands forcefully.

That will mean they're not entitled to establish their business in any part of Nigeria they wish to.

It's just like asking all Igbo traders to only take their wares to other part of the country when they need to sell them. Not owning shops, factories and offices in those other parts.

Wake up to reality joor.
If they want to establish ranches, the cows are sold for good money which they can use to purchase the land of their choice for the cattle rearing, the Igbo traders rent & buy their own shops & properties, let the Fulanis do so.

In all the so-called civilized Nations of the world whose political and social systems we say we want to adopt, this practices of moving cattle across the Nation would be banned if it brought with it unrest and deaths. Quite apart from what the West might do or not do, the reasonable thing to do is ban the movement of Herders until safety of the people can be assured. Actually, given the state of security in Nigeria, tackling terrorists, kidnappers, militants and so on, it is share madness for Nigeria to let herders continue to rove throughout Nigeria, armed. I love Nigeria culture and believe they should be preserved as much as possible, including Fulani herding their cattle, but right now, the "Herders Culture” is the perfect vessel for individuals or groups intent on causing harm, to lives and property, to exploit. The practise should be ether contained in ranches in the home origin or banned at least for now.

I laugh at the ignorance displayed by many emotionally clouded Nigerians who are against the grazing bill proposed for the Fulani cattle rearers in all states of the Federation. Let's remember that like every other Nigerians, the Fulani's have the right to live and do their business in any part of the country. It is their constitutional right as Nigerians to own grazing fields in any choice location of the country so far it is paid for or provided by the government. We ought to applaud the move made by the federal govt because it will help in ending the unnecessary violence between the Farmers and the Herdsmen. By provision of grazing fields, the fulani's will be restricted to grase on an apportioned land provided by the federal govt. It will be a crime for them to graze their cattles on people's farms once the bill is passed into law. We should not castigate every fulani herdmen as killers because of the few bad ones among them. The incidence in Agatu and other parts of the country were perpetuated by cattle rustlers and not Fulani herdsmen. Cattle rustlers are armed terrorist who steal cattles from herdsmen and graze them around the country as a cover up for their terrorist acts. The ordinary Fulani herdsmen are peaceful people and will never harm innocent Nigerians. The fulani's do not move around with weapons but sticks to guide their cattle. I observed most critics of this Bill are from the eastern part of the country. The igbos need to realize that the federal govt owns all the land and territories in Nigeria and it can decide on how it chooses to use every inch of its territory. The fulani's have every right to grave in the SE and there is nothing any one can do about it. It is their right as a Nigerian just like the igbos are the most travelled tribe doing business in every part of the country. We cannot decide to restrict all igbo traders to the east because of the attitude of few bad eggs amongst them likewise the Fulani's. Most Nigerians criticized the federal govt when they decide to create ranches and import grasses from Brazil to graze these cattles so the herder wont roam about. Now the FG is shifting plans to create a grazing site for the herders in every state which is not a bad move by all standards. We are one Nigeria and we must learn to tolerate ourselves and live in peace. We must shun the politics of hatred and tribalism. Lord Luggard saw the potentials in our diversity before merging us up to form this great country. We must not allow ethnicity to cloud our sense of judgement when the federal govt proposes law that will favour every Nigerian. We must support the grazing bill so the Fulani's can do their business in peace. BTW i am a Yoruba man from the SW. proudly Nigerian cool

The FG shud provide grazing field in the north, thats the solution to the problem. no igbo man got land for free in the north and federal govt didn't provide any free land for the igbos to build houses etc aswell. Now why shud we allow an idiiot to demand for free land in the EAST? if the fulani cant buy land and build ranches in the east, to hell.

OP, you've made good points and I wholeheartedly support the grazing bill.

Those who oppose the bill, can you please suggest an alternative to ending the continuous clashes between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen?

What the govt is attempting to do is what is obtainable in developed countries of the world. You do not see their cattle farmers with their cattle on the street.
My friend, let them stay in their states and rear their cattle. No one is against that. There is an abundance of arable grazing land in Northern Nigeria. Cattle rearers are business people like myself and I have NEVER received any type of preferential treatment from the government for doing my business. Rather I've experienced situations where I am constantly being harassed, harangued and over-taxed just because I find myself doing business in a particular location.

Why would you take my land and give to a Fulani business man? Not just that, you also create a separate kingdom for them where it is forbidden for anyone to interfere in whatever goes on inside there. I do not know how much you people were paid by the evil APC government to come and launder this evil bill from the pit of hell. Whatever it is, it will be met with VERY STIFF resistance especially from Igboland. No inch, I repeat, no inch of Igboland will be ceded to any Fulani cattle rearers by this wicked Fulani government. We're getting ready for them. The dogs and the baboons are already warming up to soak themselves in Fulani blood. A word should be enough for the wise.

Dull thing, certain businesses are controlled and regulated by the govt. Govts establish markets and take rents from shop owners.

Most abattoirs are owned and run by govt while cattle owners pay certain amounts.

No one is taking your land. Which land you get? I doubt if you have a single plot of land in your name. So, which land is that your land anyone is taking from you, empty chest beater?

This OP missed a lots of point in his advocacy for Grazzing fields for cattle herders.
1. tell me a single country where their livestock production depends on peasant and pastoral normads and acheive self sufficiency in mmeat production? Botswana is the only major exporter of meat to EU in Africa and yet all their cattle production is based on sendentary systems (not roaing of cattle across miles of distance)
What's your point here? It is the pastoral normads that have ensure self sufficiency for the country in terms of meat production since the birth of Nigeria. I am not aware about us depending on imported meat to meet our meat demands.

2. If the Fulani man has every right to graze in every part of Nigeria, i want to start pork production and i want my pigs to graze the fields in Kano, Sokoto and Katsina.. I will develop a system where my pigs will feed on fresh grass of the Kano emirate and produce good quality meat. shocked shocked shocked shocked. Dont i have that right too??
You're free to establish piggery anywhere you deem fit. The biggest piggery in Nigeria used to be in the North. What's your point here?

3. Cattle production is just a bussiness venture like Poultry, pig, Fish farming etc. Every prospective farmer must acquire land from existing land systems in the respective locations and abide by every existing local laws.
You're a big joke right? from time immemorial, the Nigerian cattle farmers have been known to move about with their cattle, grazing and destroying farmlands in the process. Why did all past govts fail to force them to "acquire land from existing land systems"?

4. How much tax do the CAttle rearers pay to the natonal purse from their sales of cattle
Government should ban in totalty the roaming of cattle in Nigeria. In South Africa, every farmer acquires large expanse of land and graze their animals within that territory. Why is it different in Nigeria
I am an animal scientist and i know the dynamics of the present system. We cant not continue this way for long. Government must forget about the ethnic and religious sentiments to move this country forward
Some of you are too naïve to understand that we already have the challenge with us and solutions must be proffered. Instead of being emotional about it and spewing trash, why not we suggest workable alternatives to the govt's plan rather than maintaining the hard posture that bring continued fights and destructions?

If you do not support the govt plan, please tell us the realistic alternative way for govt to take these herdsmen out of the street and the farms?
The answer should not be "they must buy lands from their operation locations, bla bla bla" without telling us how to ensure it happens.

No body is forcing u to forfiet your land. The FG has access to land across the country and i believe they have perfected plans for the allocation of lands. Dont make this look like the FG intends to demolish everyones house and convert the lands to grazing fields. The grazing area might be forests or bushes it all depends. This is a brilliant move by the FG to stop the menace of cattle rustling.

You are a selfish man. If the fulani's were igbo traders would u support a bill restricting them to the east alone? If the fulani's cant raise their cattle in any part of the country, its like trampling upon their human rights. Cattle rearing is their business and they have the right to live and do business any where in Nigeria. The FG has made a plan to settle them in specific grazing areas across the country so there will be peace

No one restricted the fulani to one location, They are free to trade anywhere in the country, you are a hateful human to compare igbo business methods with that of the fulani's.

Concerning the Topic, all we are saying is the bill is outrageous, how can you seize someone's land and expect the person to collect permission from you to sue you to court? Nah it is never done anywhere. In saner Climes modern animal husbandry are practiced to improve meat and milk production but in the fulani's case, it is Different, they expect the federal Government to finance their business, How about the federal Government seizing lands in the north and building Shops, Malls and giving it out to the igbos free of charge? I will never support that crazy bill and i hope it is trashed out!
