ShukuShuku, there are FG clearly marked lands in every state of the federation apart from the fact that it has the right to make use of any part of the state's land for its project.

Shukwudi, please suggest ways to FG for solving the problem of clashes between the herdsmen and the farmers. Waiting .....
Any herdsmen caught disturbing the peace of d couhtry shud be crushed.

We know of igbos that are fond of importing and selling fake drugs which has led to deaths of many. Should we now conclude that the igbo traders be sent back to the east because of the bad ones?

And who told you that the cattle bought from fulani men are not infected with trypanosomiasis or other diseases. is it because our government system is not working or is ineffectual/ineffective if not vertenary doctors need to examine the cows before we buy them.

Then as for the so called fake drugs you were emphasizing about Igbo's, didn't kwakwanso confiscate and close down their shops and they were forced to relocate to the east but the worst of it all is that at a point Kwakwanso started witch hunting both the genuine drug dealers and the fake ones, that made so many southerners to go back home.

Then common sense is the drugs sellers are on their own na u find them go, but Fulani herdsmen na dem find you come your house even kill, rape and kidnap u join if you are alive. the difference is you can control the act of igbo man by not patrosing him but you can't control that of fulani.

[b]I laugh at the ignorance displayed by many emotionally clouded Nigerians who are against the grazing bill proposed for the Fulani cattle rearers in all states of the Federation. Let's remember that like every other Nigerians, the Fulani's have the right to live and do their business in any part of the country. It is their constitutional right as Nigerians to own grazing fields in any choice location of the country so far it is paid for or provided by the government. [size=16pt] We ought to applaud the move made by the federal govt because it will help in ending the unnecessary violence between the Farmers and the Herdsmen . By provision of grazing fields, the fulani's will be restricted to graze on an apportioned land provided by the federal govt. It will be a crime for them to graze their cattles on people's farms once the bill is passed into law. We should not castigate every fulani herdmen as killers because of the few bad ones among them. The incidence in Agatu and other parts of the country were perpetuated by cattle rustlers and not Fulani herdsmen. Cattle rustlers are armed terrorist who steal cattles from herdsmen and graze them around the country as a cover up for their terrorist acts. The ordinary Fulani herdsmen are peaceful people and will never harm innocent Nigerians. The fulani's do not move around with weapons but sticks to guide their cattle. I observed most critics of this Bill are from the eastern part of the country. The igbos need to realize that the federal govt owns all the land and territories in Nigeria and it can decide on how it chooses to use every inch of its territory. The fulani's have every right to graze in the SE and there is nothing any one can do about it. It is their right as a Nigerian just like the igbos are the most travelled tribe doing business in every part of the country. We cannot decide to restrict all igbo traders to the east because of the attitude of few bad eggs amongst them likewise the Fulani's. Most Nigerians criticized the federal govt when they decide to create ranches and import grasses from Brazil to graze these cattles so the herder wont roam about. Now the FG is shifting plans to create a grazing site for the herders in every state which is not a bad move by all standards. We are one Nigeria and we must learn to tolerate ourselves and live in peace. We must shun the politics of hatred and tribalism. You are a plot, like Babafemi, planted to goad and provoke Igbo hatred for Yoruba. No Yoruba supports your view, no Southerner will support your view. There are many Northerners that will equally reject your view. So really, you are not popular with this view at all, its a turn off!

On the highlited section I would love to share with you that the herders are willful killers and the award of a grazing corridor will not shape their will away from vuilence. If they are honest they ought first to cease violence at least two years prior and cinvince us that they wish to be good citizens. Right now they are not, and we refuse to pay them to behave. What you have proposed is another amnesty, an exchange of Federal Subsidy for cease of violence. We reject it!

Likewise, its an insult to compare the presence of Igbo all over Nigeria to the right of herders to go anywhere and do anything they like including massacre people, rape women, destroy communities. There are Hausas and Fulanis present everywhere in Nigeria like Igbos and no one is asking to contain them to their region. Cow herding is a danger to communities, families, properties in Southern Nigeria, we are opposed to it, irrespective of the term its called, grazing corridor, reserve or whatever...

I think the only language the Nigerian govt understands is gun,
BOKO HARAM RAVAGED THIS COUNTRY AND THEY ARE DELIBERATING ON GIVING THEM AMNESTY.
FULANI HERDSMEN KILL, RAPE AND DESTROY LIVES AND THEY ARE DELIBERATING ON GIVING THEM FREE GRAZING RESERVES.
WHY IPOB PEOPLE AGITATED FOR THE RELEASE OF THERE LEADER PEACEFULLY AND ALL HELL LET LOOSE.

1. OP, you've made good points and I wholeheartedly support the grazing bill.

2. Those who oppose the bill, can you please suggest an alternative to ending the continuous clashes between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen?

3. What the govt is attempting to do is what is obtainable in developed countries of the world. You do not see their cattle farmers with their cattle on the street.

I just grouped your comment I and I shall respond to you carefully..

No 1. Ops. Like the rest of all the surpporters of this bill has not made any good point and pls don't expect a lot of people to understand them talkless of supporting it like you.

No 2. Nigeria government must learn how to be govt of the people, not govt of some people. In as much as this might or might not be a great bill, people like me wouldn't want to listen to any theory around it as long It's been initiated by some perceived brothers of a man whom have sworn to kill my own brothers.

You can't be clamping down the progress of others and expect same ppl to be rejoicing in your own progress..

Even if you ask me, I would even say that whether this bill scales through or not, IGBOs won't loose anything at all.
In fact they will even gain. Because when they open their mind on the profits therein on cow rearing business, you shall see that even the FULANI will have to work harder to maintain monopoly on cattle rearing in Nigeria.. Because I shall do everything humanly possible to buy plenty cows and teach some Igbos On that same field how to do the business..

You see one of the problems of this law, just like almost all our laws is that the design doesn't have the interest of the nation, the gains are targeted at some ppl and when other tribes ventures into it now it becomes a problem of marginalization and segregation..

No3. What the govt is about to do is not obtainable anywhere especially in developed world.
Cattle rearing is a private business and the herders, just like every other business need to make their own provisions and creat their own space.. The best govt can do it to help with loan and provide security for them..

How can govt, at everyone's expense, acquire land, provide security for just some ppl to stay on that same land to do business which they might eventually still not pay tax and be doing their private business..

That is barbaric..

Its the same thing as govt renting shops for all the Igbos and provide them security for them to be doing their business..

If you are saying because they kill people and it should be given so the killing can stop..

I ask you, who the hell are they, who gave them the power to take lifes, if they are NIGERIANS and commits crimes the law should take full course on them..

They must put their acts together and get serious with their business or they should be abolished and we can import our meats as well, after all we have been importing almost everything and still exists till date.

Bye.

whoever that paid you to promote this bill has just wasted his money. You know nothing about fulani herdsmen so, close ur mouth.

Those cattles are owned by wealthy fulani politicians & business men & not those that criss cross Nigeria. The owners provide guns and police protection for them.

These business men & politicians should build ranch for their cattles.

You mentioned Igbos here. I wonder how many times federal governement mandated any state to give Igbos land where they build their markets.

This OP missed a lots of point in his advocacy for Grazzing fields for cattle herders.
1. tell me a single country where their livestock production depends on peasant and pastoral normads and acheive self sufficiency in mmeat production? Botswana is the only major exporter of meat to EU in Africa and yet all their cattle production is based on sendentary systems (not roaing of cattle across miles of distance)
2. If the Fulani man has every right to graze in every part of Nigeria, i want to start pork production and i want my pigs to graze the fields in Kano, Sokoto and Katsina.. I will develop a system where my pigs will feed on fresh grass of the Kano emirate and produce good quality meat. shocked shocked shocked shocked. Dont i have that right too??
3. Cattle production is just a bussiness venture like Poultry, pig, Fish farming etc. Every prospective farmer must acquire land from existing land systems in the respective locations and abide by every existing local laws.
4. How much tax do the CAttle rearers pay to the natonal purse from their sales of cattle
Government should ban in totalty the roaming of cattle in Nigeria. In South Africa, every farmer acquires large expanse of land and graze their animals within that territory. Why is it different in Nigeria
I am an animal scientist and i know the dynamics of the present system. We cant not continue this way for long. Government must forget about the ethnic and religious sentiments to move this country forward

one of the very few sensible comments on this thread...

You are a selfish man. If the fulani's were igbo traders would u support a bill restricting them to the east alone? If the fulani's cant raise their cattle in any part of the country, its like trampling upon their human rights. Cattle rearing is their business and they have the right to live and do business any where in Nigeria. The FG has made a plan to settle them in specific grazing areas across the country so there will be peace

You are a joker. And you obviously do not understand the issues involved here at all. For you this is primarily a tribal issue, that's why your write up focuses on Fulani, Igbo and the pointless fact that you are a Yoruba. The federal government does not own all the land in Nigeria, that is simply not true. Most of the land in Nigeria is owned by private entities, the rest is mainly owned by state governments. There is no way the grazing bill should give power to the federal government to take people's land by force and pay them whatever it deems fit to be adequate compensation. That is unjust.
Apart from the injustice of taking land by force, I have no issues with establishing designated grazing areas for the Fulani nomads and their cattle, but not one kobo should be paid by the government at any level. Cattle rearing is a private business, they should negotiate with the owners of the land and pay the fees for using the land out of their own pocket.

OP, you've made good points and I wholeheartedly support the grazing bill.

Those who oppose the bill, can you please suggest an alternative to ending the continuous clashes between the farmers and Fulani herdsmen?

What the govt is attempting to do is what is obtainable in developed countries of the world. You do not see their cattle farmers with their cattle on the street.

The owners of these cattles are rich Nigerians.. they can afford a Ranch.. Period

That will mean they're not entitled to establish their business in any part of Nigeria they wish to.

It's just like asking all Igbo traders to only take their wares to other part of the country when they need to sell them. Not owning shops, factories and offices in those other parts.

Wake up to reality joor.

This is either an evil or ignorant comparison. When was the last time the government created a free treading post in all states for Igbos.?
Even in Sabon Garis all over the world, Igbos have to pay individually for their business. Fulani people are allowed to buy properties in Igboland, not through the federal government that will undoubtedly arm twist the locals to favor the Fulanis.
Unprotected grazing causes desert encroachment as we all know, another reason why Enugu state should not become desert like Kano

[size=13pt]When the bill is passed, you say, it will be a crime for the cattle herders to graze cattle anywhere else.

But Wait a minute. I thought it was already a crime for people to kill other innocent people, unprovoked.

Isn't it the right thing to clamp down on the known/identified culprits?

Okay, some gun-carrying herdsmen don't have respect for our already existing laws and you think creating a grazing bill will suddenly make them start respecting the already existing laws which makes killing people a crime?

If these people are rustlers and not Fulani herdsmen, then we do not need any new laws or bills to protect the honest Fulani herdsmen. We just need to enforce the existing laws that has made what these killers have done a crime and then we will be truly one sane Nigeria, knowing that when crimes are committed, and the perpetrators are known, they will be made to pay for it.

Some killers kill around and instead of bringing them to book you say "we therefore now have to allocate lands to the Fulani in every state of the federation".

How sensible.

And how is this different from what the govt is trying to do?

The govt, by establishing grazing facilities for them, will be able to solve all problems associating with cattle rearing.

What part of the bill gives some of you sleepless night?

After all, we all need the cattle rearers to survive. Or is there anyone of us who can do without the meat from their cattle?

[size=13pt]What they need is established ranches (in the north) with HAY SUPPLY

AND WATER SUPPLY
AND VET OUTREACH
AND OTHER LOGISTICS LIKE :-

FENCEs AND POWER, + MINI MILKING stations

They will find it increasingly harder to drift too far away from guaranteed water for their cattle
and animal health care, etc., etc.
Remember ranches don't move around
