youre demanding for respect? It's not a hidden thing that a lot of Nigerian trained nurses need re-training in communication and showing compassion. They can be very rude to patients.
This is one of the reasons why they may not be respected. However Nigerians mostly respect people with flashy jobs so majority of them don't respect nurses and teachers.
Before you quickly castigate me, I am also training to be a nurse as a second degree.

What do you mean by 'training to be a nurse as a second degree'?

Tell that to the birds. Only a handful of nurses make such sacrifices. And as long as majority are insensitive to patients' plight and r rude to patients, I can't respect nurses. Never!!! I hate them for being rude to patients that they ought to pamper.
.
Sometimes there is work pressure or provocation from doctors who r suffering from superiority complex but that's not enough reason to be unnecessarily rude to patients who on many occasions are even far older than you. What happened to respect for elders, huh?
.
Sometimes I wonder if Nigerian nurses have special training on how to be rude considering the height of rudeness they display to sick people.

I know there are bad nurses, we have also had encounters with them, worked with some, etc. I believe it all boils down to personality, I have met and worked with wonderful nurses and some bad eggs. I am a good nurse myself.
Some people just have that bad personality, I wonder why they chose nursing then. An impatient and temperamental person can't make a good nurse. People seem to capitalize on the bad ones though, plus the media seems to promote negative things about nursing and nurses. Sometimes the workload gets to some people which can make them flip and like someone said some patients and relatives like to test one's patience.
'Like I once had a patient whose relative came with all intent to frustrate the nurses, any little thing or request, she becomes rude. She later told the matron she has heard nurses are rude (that stereotype), and has come prepared for us. We all ignored her and when she saw how we related with her relative and all, she calmed herself down and came to apologise). And the ITK relatives too, like one that was telling us not to administer diclofenac for her mum that it makes her sleep and that she prefers diazepam. Stuffs like that.

Nurses r so rude that I banned going to the hospital(if the illness will require the attention of a nurse) since 1999 and God has been helping me. I resort to natural means of treatment on occasions like that. Their rudeness is appalling and I can't stand them.

Bad actions are usually more noticeable than good ones. Let's just hope there is a considerable number of good nurses. May God help Nigerian patients, Amen.

You see what we are talking about ? This is the typical way the bad nurses respond to patients. Just imagine the response. He did not insult nurses; he only aired his view but what did he get? "Then jump into the lagoon". I wasn't surprised to read his response though.

Nurses r trying to launder their dented image n u r here jeopardising their efforts.

But why exactly is that a bad thing? The patient may not have felt comfortable taking some drug (btw i hate diclofenac) and expressed it to her daughter, who shared with you. Perhaps you could have asked her to speak to the doctor concerning her drugs. I've been prescribed Lexotan by my gynae in pregnancy and I informed her I wouldn't take it because the risks for me outweighed the benefits and she later agreed. I had a treatment and the nurse kept injecting me on one particular side till it bled and I had problems moving. Another nurse lost it when she saw it, shouting "but they taught us in school", conferred with doctor and changed my injection site.
I used to faithfully swallow every medicine handed to me until stuff happened and my relatives (consultant doctors) told me to question and research everything done to me and always ask for a 2nd opinion.

It becomes a bad thing when that relative doesn't know what he or she is saying. Some just do it to show off, I don't really understand why, when in fact they are very wrong. After proper explanation, she realized she was wrong.
It is good to ask about and read up about whatever treatment plan you are on.

this is mostly caused by tight boxers, is not a sexually transmitted disease. Men that wear swim pants as boxers, men that wear pant ,boxer, n jean all together for hours r prone to having this. Moist n heat r good environment for fungi.
Solution
avoid wearing tight underwears, give room for good ventilation
Use amplicox 1/52 bd
Use any antifungal cream to rub d area.

And you sincerely and in all honesty believe that monicker is a nurse.

We have lots of people parading as nurses...community health extension workers, public health officers, health assistants and attendants, and the mother of all quacks ...the "auxiliary ""nurses"" ". The problem we often have is sifting through those layer to determine who the hell we are dealing with.

Be rest assured sir, if you see a nurse misbehaving write him/her up to the Nursing and Midwifery Council OF Nigeria. Evil thrive when people do NOTHING.
