This happened yesterday 19th April 2015 at about 12pm. According to reports gathered from the passengers, they were traveling to Lagos from Asaba. It was a smooth trip until when they got close to "Bypass" in Benin, the Captain (driver) started waving the steering randomly from left to right.

At first, they thought he was trying to navigate the potholes on the road but it was pretty obvious that road at that point was good and there was no need for that.

Suddenly the Captain began to wave to the right almost out of the road, the man at the front noticed that the driver was sleeping, so he quickly reached out his hand for the steering trying to wave back into the road. He was not very successful because his seat belt held him back but he managed to wave it a little. The bus hit the bump by the right and fell. lots of the passengers were injured but none died.

When the Captain was confronted, he apologized and told them that he worked the previous night. He drove from Lagos to Asaba and was forced to take another trip without any good sleep.

Transportation companies need to value the life of customers. Thank God no life was lost. Quick recovery to all that were injured.

I know of some transportation companies that pays their drivers based on the trip they make - the more trips they go, the more they earn, so these drivers will end up running themselves to exhaustion without even caring for their own safety or that of the passengers.

This could be one of those instances.

If u keep thinking like this, the nxt generation is in problem..

Any company that is Safety conscious will not engage drivers who have not rested irrespective the driver willingness to continue..

It happens. Is mostly the careless drivers who don't value their life or that of their passengers that partake in this kind of things not minding the repercussion.
Imagine dozing off on the wheel? If feeling dizzy why can't you notify the passengers....at least they'll shout on you, but at the end of the day you've saved lives by telling them. Instead of driving them to impending doom

The direct loosers in all of this is the company......imagine the huge loss the company will suffer if lives were lost and also to their motor. So yes the company should be sacking him for endangering individuals as well as himself.
If you have a driver that does this to your motor, will you wait for 'authorities' to act? Won't you sack him yourself?

Little to zero loss is suffered by the Company..

That Bus is covered under Comprehensive Fleet Insurance. Even if it got totalled, they are getting a Brand new one.

Even in the case of death, the Drivers have their Workman's Compensation/Personal Injury or Death Insurance cover and the Passengers have a cover as well (Up to a certain amount).

Only a follish Business man would have a transport company like God Is Good and not be fully insured.

If what the captain said is true... He should not have allow them to force him when he's really aware that his life and that of the passengers are in danger on the road....

As for the company... They should be prosecuted for forcing a driver to go on trip back to back.

I wonder why nobody is blaming the company that forced a driver that have not had enough rest to embark on another journey. Some are even saying sack the driver. Smh
