Category1:Don't say what u don't know. People build houses on "Right of way" if its not houses, they extend their fences or build shops on the right of way. Sometimes its shanties. They do this with the believe they would have enjoyed the benefits before development reaches the areas or b4 the government thinks pf expansion or building what was on the master plan. Even if there is a master plan, there is room for corrections and additions as long as those affected will be adequately compesated. This happens all over the world |

Category1:800 households can not hold 20 million lagosians to ransom. Sadly, the shanties /homes must be pulled down for greater development. |

You want to render 800 families homeless in this terrible change time. Na wa ooo. I hope the government will not ask the house owners to remove the roofing sheets, irons and what have you and when it comes to compensation the cost of those items would be excluded |

Some are complaining about 800 houses. The reason why Fashola's government couldn't start the job was because they intended to demolish over 3000 houses and the affected occupants had to drag the state govt to court. |

Category1:You said that they built 'illegally' and the article describes the homes as 'shanties' - that is the problem, they intentionally broke the law. They're lucky that they got away with it this long. All these squatters and useless agberos in Lagos stand in the way of its potential as a great city. |

kYjelly2:It's really ridiculous how Lagos with an economy bigger than Kenya has to make compromise in order to complete basic amenities like roads. Lagos should be getting a large chuck of their contribution to Nigeria |

The bridge will cost no less $1.4bn too. LASG are going about this project the right way by duly compensating the owners of the affected structures. With the completion of this bridge, and the light-rail system, the present massive traffic gridlock will be greatly reduced. Below is a render of the bridge.

Segadem:Yeah. The 4th Mainland bridge will be the new longest bridge in Africa. Initial proposals put the length of the proposed bridge at 22.5km, but it looks like it has been increased. 37.9km (25 miles) is indeed MASSIVE. |
