The Oba of Benin, Omo n’Oba Erediauwa Akpolokpolo I, is dead.

He died on Friday afternoon.

His death was announced few minutes ago by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe.
The late monarch has been battling an unknown illness since last year.

we know na. i saw the new Oba walking round the market last month with heavy security. i guess that was one of the initiation rites

Benin tradition is still the strongest in Nigeria. everything was done accordingly since when rumor was flying that the man was dead. with this announcement you will think he just died.
