Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent, hence, it lightens the skin and in order to this it will inhibit an enzyme, tyrosinase, which plays an important role in the development of skin treatment. Hydroquinone is an active ingredient in about 85% of the lotions in the market today.

AFFECTS OF HYDROQUINONE

• it causes sensitivity to sunlight and severe suburn.

•it causes ochronosis (development of black skin discoloration in some parts of the body)

•long usage eliminates tyrosinase.

• When used along with products containing hydrogen peroxide or benzyl peroxide causes severe Ochronosis.

IF YOU MUST USE HYDROGENQUINONE.

YOU SHOULD:

• Use in 4 month cycle, alternating with other lighter agents like kojic acid especially if you have dark skin.

•Not be pregnant or breastfeeding

•Not be less then 12years old

•Avoid long exposure to sun, hydroquinone makes skin photosensitive.

•Not be taking drugs that reacts with hydroquinone

•Not use around the eye.

• hydroquinone should not be used along with medicines containing resorcinol, phenol or salicylic acid.
