Tell me something i could start up with #100 then ban it. Crediting my bank account with 25k weekly would equally do.

Nonsense. Sport betting owners are advanced thieves using the internet to rake money from gullible people. [s]

And how is that anyone's problem? Sports betting and forex trading aint fraudulent activities, they are legal means of making money. Every business has its risk, though the aforementioned might be on the high, the individuals taking part in it should be left to take that decision. There is no need mincing words, Forex is some jumps ahead of gambling. A total ban on this forum is a good idea
Seun:
Dear Nairalanders,

We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.

Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.

In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too much for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.

We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.

What do you think? Please click 'like' if you like the idea; thanks.

I agree.

Sports betting should be banned.

The gambling sector in nigeria is highly unregulated and betting is fast becoming a dangerous trend in nigeria.

Besides, none of the major religions support gambling. Gambling is a sin.

Seun, I completely agree. Ban both forex trading and sports betting.
Go to bed, we dnt play religious politics in Nigeria.

You cannot dictate to humans how to live their lives . I have been on nairaland for years and I have never for once visited some sections like food and fashion. You can create a thread on the dangers of gambling if you do not like it, but forcing people not to air their opinions on a legal entity is not only discriminatory but also a denial of fundamental human right... Right to expression.

I don't see any reason to ban forex and bet. Look seun every investment is highly risky too. Do you think shares, stock, Treasury bills and co are not risky.. Am a student and I will proudly say that forex trade have helped me indeed pay off my debt. If the government can't ban betting and forex then you think you could ban it. I tell you am an active member in the business section and what interest me most is forex. Take it or leave it its this forex and bets that keep that section active.

In this life people get successfully in different ways. Your way might be through your website and my way could be forex. Ban it I will off from Nairaland. undecided

I agree. With seun... The first time I decided to try sport bet due to predictions on nairaland, I lost my stake of 50k... A lot of vulnerable people loose alot, especially those that don't know much bout games... Mayb its the betting companies that pay them to make people loose money

Why did you bet what you cannot afford to lose? Before you make any decision in life, be aware of its possible consequences. This is not restricted to betting alone but every decision we take in life (they are risks too)

@Seun,

It is unfortunate to use the word "fraudulent" for Forex Trading. How could the largest financial market in the world be termed fraudulent? How could a market with a daily turnover of $6 trillion dollar be fraudulent? Why has the govt and other regulatory agencies allowed it to run for decades without ban?

Forex trading is a speculative business which requires one to take calculated the risk. The reason most people are unsuccessful is because they lack control of their emotions. It is a market that works based on human psychology. Humans are naturally greedy and this market is designed to take money away from the greedy folks. If you can control your emotions by practicing solid money management practices, then you will smile to the bank every month.

There is no business thats 100% fail proof. In fact, there's is statistics that most business fail within the first 5yrs - why? Because most of the owners lack proper knowledge about it.

Do you know how many forums have come up after nairaland and crashed? How many LIB wanabes that failed?

Every business has its associated risk, forex inclusive. The moment you understand how to manage this, you are good to go.

I know you will be reading this,Seun,so let me use this opportunity to bring an issue to your attention.
I think there should be a means through which member can change existing accounts to new Emails.its quite possible to lose touch with an E-mail and when that happens, its rather painful that you'll have to let go of the nairaland account opened with that e-mail.

hopefully, something will be done about that.much appreciated.

Well, for me, social networking for entrepreneurs is all about the traffic, if you take this forex and betting outta Nairaland, some other dude will pick on that opportunity, u lose some traffic, minimal for you, mega for another person.
Also, removing sport betting or forex promotions from this site does not stop the millions out there or here on nairaland from betting, you may pacify your conscience, but you have really done nothing. What I will suggest you do is put a disclaimer or a warning on forex and betting threads @seun

Firstly, this is a public forum, people have the right to decide, the right to legitimacy. I am sure everyone here is old enough to make decisions. The ability to perceive what is right and wrong, you as much owe them that. You can't impose you opinions on others, it is not only autocratic but tyranny. I believe you should only come in with suggestions on why you think these businesses or opportunities are wrong and allow people to heed the warnings. Forex is as legitimate as football and believe me like every opportunity, it involves learning the ropes, the cons and pros. People who know this, know the limits of when to push and when to withdraw. Like every business, they both have a risk to reward ratio.

It's been long I placed a bet, but why would you ban sports betting threads? Why? Everyone here is mature enough to make their decisions in life. It's their choice.. people loose money to gambling everyday but it never stops them.. it's pointless
Re: Banning Forex Trading And Sports Betting Promotion by raffydon1: 3:15pm On May 03, 2016
I dnt think banning them is d answer...everybody is responsible for his or her choices if u want 2 engage in any of activities involving these businesses..

Good day admin, am a forex trader , full time trader and I have never advertised what I do in your platform. The truth is that one can genuinely make money from Forex trading but ONLY few are that lucky. I won't say you should totally ban forex trading ,I don't know about sport but rather , if anyone needs to post anything about forex, you can go to the extent of verifying them with proof. That several people have been scammed does not mean no one has been positively touched or affected. I am the admin of itradeforex group on Facebook and I am a full time trader with consistent profit but truth be told, many traders are scammers. To cut my story short, I would suggest you verify members who may want to post anything related to forex on your platform not the total ban. Do you want to say there are no other avenue through which people have been scammed here aside forex? Obviously No. Please censor it but do not ban it outrightly. Thanks
/
Please educate us...how do you associate traders with scam?

Are they trading with or soliciting for other people's money?

Personally, I abhor forex trading but I will not write off the ones who engage in it.

If you should ban anything, ban sport betting and forex advertising...

Discussion threads should be left alone. Except it has misleading content and heading.

E.g Make 1 million in 2 weeks with sports betting.

An ideal uncensored thread can be ''My journey to make 1 million in 2 weeks with sports betting'' and a disclaimer should be put in the content, warning users of the probability of losses.

In summary, the rule should prevent betting and forex promotion and advertisement, and call for a disclaimer to be on threads that discuss same.

Dear Seun,

I believe that anybody that engage in Forex or game betting is up to the age of accountability and can be able to take a good decision for his or herself.

Kindly note that Forex and game betting are legitimate business as such banning it on your forum will not be a wise idea.

My 2 cents.
What is legitimate in fraud?
because many pple do it doesn't make it ideal.Only b say the law makers are too corrupt the world over to look into this menace.
