Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, says dressing masquerades could create a thousand jobs per week for Nigerian men.

Speaking at the sectoral debate of the federal house of representative in Abuja on Tuesday, Mohammed said most states in Nigeria have one festival or the other.

“Most states today have more than one festival a year, but the packaging and lack of capacity has not enabled them to make the most out of these festivals,” he said.

“There’s a particular masquerade in the south east, it takes 100 people to dress him, another 100 people to UnCloth him.

“If this masquerade is well-packaged, it can provide employment in one week for more than 1000 young men. These are some of the untapped potentials.”

Mohammed explained that Nigeria has the oldest forest in the world in terms of biodiversity for tourists to visit, but tourists are discouraged by bribing and insecurity in the country.

“I worked in the airport for 10 years, and I know that if you want your passport stamped as a foreigner, you slip $100 into your passport. No tourist would come back to a country where he has to bribe immigration to enter.

“No tourist would come to a country where, when he leaves immigration, he enters a ‘one-chance’ taxi or ‘one-chance’ bus. It’s a holistic problem and these are all contained in the national tourism master plan, which I would make available to the house.

“We must make a difference between tourist sites and tourist attractions; what we have in Nigeria are tourist sites. They are not tourist attractions.

“You need infrastructure to convert a tourist site to a tourist attraction. If you don’t have infrastructure, it would always remain a tourist site,

“In Cross Rivers reserve park, Nigeria has the oldest forest in the whole world. It is the oldest in terms of biodiversity, and we have this very rare, white-mane gorilla in that area, but because my people in Cross River have decided to turn them to bush meat, they have now escaped.”

It mustn't be during the festival events along.Every weekends at Tourism centers, cultural events can be organize for tourists.



Some people is there family's tradition (masquerade) or
heritage.
Some family no matter how rich you are,you must do it
atleast once.
How you will think outside the box(When hungry sama/

you)
Your brain=Box. Your open eyes are seeing outside
box.....
When you see your environment,you will create avenues
for
food.
Only some few Masquerades that only come out ones in
a
year. Others do parade the street to catch fun and make
money.
Tourism centres on weekends, there will cultural displays
and dance,traditional modelling
(you can bring your wife in Ankara to cat/fish walk or
elephant walk if she is fat).
Normal Masquerades perform and recite poetries.
Your children can give symposiums or poems,I will clap
and drop something.
That will get he/she note books for a term.
Papa Emeka can sell soft drinks and sachets water,
while you can sell cigarettes and hard drinks.
Mallam Adamu will sell his Suya, he will not fight you
people in the bush.
Mama Kayode can sell rice and beans at one corner.
Mama Abdullahi can sell Kunu and Zobo just close to the
gate.
All these people are doing something,instead of poke
nosing, back biting&backfiring, gossiping and stealing.
While me at the weekends, I will come catch fun,relax
and
flex away troubled system of hard work.

On second thought, I took a deeper look into the possibility of a masquerade been dressed up by 100 people and unclothed by another 100. It sounds like a good job to me...you get to work only on festival days and you're off for the remaining part of the year with perks, bonuses and the prestige of being a masquerade dresser.

I make diligent search but find out there's no where in the south east where a masquerade gets dressed by 200 persons. I realize it's another scam. I feel disappointed but wait patiently for 2019.
