this initiative can only comes to fruition when and only when the political sector of our national life is made less attractive with it's attendant moneybag pattern. If not the quick and easy way of making money in our political life has demoralized industry and diligence among Nigerian particularly our youths.
However, it's still a welcome initiative!

Blackberrybabes:
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the past weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, unveiled a new initiative tagged ‘Zero Hunger’ to clearly articulate what the country needs to do to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).

Obasanjo tasked the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, ban importation of vegetables, carrots, cucumber, lettuce and other fruits into the nation.

Obasanjo bared his mind at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Ibadan at the inaugural meeting of the ‘Nigeria Zero Hunger Strategic Review’ Committee comprising an assemblage of representatives of the World Food Program, African Development Bank, members of the Diplomatic Corps, captains of industry as well as technocrats drawn from both the public and private institutions across the country.

Addressing the forum, Chief Obasanjo, who is the convener of the initiative called for collective change of mind from all Nigerians insisting that a multi-stakeholder and multi-dimensional approach is highly desirable to achieve the goal of a zero hunger nation by 2025 ahead of the 2030 deadline given by the United Nations.

He declared: “Although the SDGs are laudable, the key to achieving them depends on implementation and our collective will. Let me reiterate that the task of attaining the SDGs cannot be left for the government alone, neither can it be left for the civil society nor the private sector. It is going to take the collective effort of each and every citizen of this great nation and our partners.

It will require our collective change of mindset to at first identify the opportunities that abound. It is in this context that we have invited you to this meeting. We will be looking at the second goal of the SGDs which is Zero Hunger. Our main focus will be to clearly articulate what the country needs to do to achieve the SGDs.”

Thief O has been head of state for 11 years in total if you add his 3 years as military ruler 1976-79

Thief Obasanjo event started the initiative "operation feed nation" the only thing that came of that, was that he was able to convert the resources of the initiative to his personal property hence his great Ota farm was born as soon as he handed over power in 1979. grin

You see!

In my opinion he is the worse thing ever happened to nigeria.

All the big money nigeria got from the oil boom between 1999 - 2015 was largely wasted away. He caused it.

Lol, seriously there's a demon in Nigeria's presidential seat that makes sure every elected Nigerian president never performs till he leaves office.

Look at the father of corruption who used to be a Godly and repented man while in prison but turned devil's incarnate the moment he became president of Nigeria in 1999.

Had the whole power, the peoples' support and the whole ground to turn Nigeria around for good but used the opportunity to witch-hunt his past political enemies and to embezzle public funds anyhow for his greedy self and gazillion of mistresses scattered all over the world.

Now haven realized the gravity of evil and destruction he brought upon Nigeria, his conscience can't let him sit one place but rather he keeps pushing hard by all means to redeem his black image.

This is what will also happen to Buhari; if he fails to rebuke that demon that jumps into them at Aso Rock, he will carry shame and regrets to his grave; people close to him should go and tell him I said so now that he has got time to redeem his image and family from generational curse
on point

OBJ, in conjunction with Yaradua and Buhari founded corruption in the 70s with the biggest ever executive heist the world has ever seen as at that time (N2.8billion of our petroleum money). He came back in 1999 and continued from where he stopped by embezzling all he couldn't have in the 70s. He has spent more years at the top than anybody else so he has to be blamed more for plunging this country into its present mess. The CEO corruption (IBB) only learnt from OBJ (Ebola Onwu).

I wonder why Gen. Sani Abacha (the grand patron of corruption) didn't do the needful while the Ebola Onwu was in prison. He would have saved us a lot of ills in this country and the Ebola wouldn't have been missed one bit.
Re: Obasanjo Unveils Zero Hunger Initiative by Maser: 5:55am On May 07, 2016
How can this be when Buhari allowed herdsmen to chase farmers away from their farms.

In any case, OBJ should respect himself and live his retirement in peace. He messed up this country.

In my opinion I dont think he was very corrupt.

Of course he was corrupt, but his main deficiencies were he was not very intelligent and has little sincerity.

So because the first one was not successful, we shouldn't do another one using the pitfalls of the previous one to our advantage? When real men discuss solutions, mediocre people discuss the real men's past failures undecided
Go out there, hunger is ravaging the land!

There is nobody without flaws. OBJ is one of the blessing of this country whatever anyone says it can rule out the fact that God has use him to boost the economy of this country in his last tenure. He wanted to redeem his past mistakes.
