All these Jonathan fans def... Mambilla was cancelled in 2013 due to the failure of Nigeria to meet their part of the agreement.

The deal was renegotiated by Buhari.

what is the load demand in lagos?
Lagos is massively underpowered. Using the western diversity factor a typical 3 bed house in Lagos should be allocated 2KVA or 1.3KVA for 2bed. Now do the maths for all the houses in Lagos and you will see 3GW isn't that much.
The thing is people are being conservative in their load usage because of lack of stable electricity. So the real load is definitely higher than what everyone is currently using.

Step in the right direction.
No more gas plants until other sources of gas are tapped.
All those gas Wells in the benue and Niger basin, that the government sealed off in the 70's,should be brought back to play.

Potential sites for hydro power in yorubaland.some are small and some are massive. They can supply between 10MW and 1000MW each. Supply the energy generated to local communities and feed the excess into the grid. Hopefully an autonomous or independent yoruba country.

Link does not work.

Revived with not a single stone on the ground and they are still going to negotiate with the state government??... OBJ tried to revive it too.. GEJ tried too... Yet there is no stone on the ground..

This is not the only agreement that Nigeria failed to meet their side... It happened with rails as well..

In 2013, it was cancelled because of our failure to meet our side.

If we had started this project in 2012, by next year 2017 the country would be preparing to commision the power plant.
For good sixteen years, we had a PDP government that was bereft of ideas, led by greedy demons who can never be of any good to hell.
We will surely get there.

What was reactivated in 2014 was negotiation not the contract.

Nigeria started renegotiating but nothing was concluded before GEJ left.

You are not entirely correct please, the designs and the funding mechanism was in place as at late 2014 but the CME wanted to be in the full picture(occasioned by the continued fall in oil prices) which caused a slight shift in the flag off date and that coincided with the election period which distracted the whole system....So, Buhari and his team are not bringing anything new apart from their whole contractor financing ish, which shouldn't generate noise as there are designs and funding mechanism already in place which they freely chose to alter.

I am not incorrect... I have read those articles before.

We did start renegotiating in 2014. After we failed in 2013.

As at early 2015, we were going to start another round of negotiations especially with falling oil prices. We did not have the money to back it up.

Buhari came in and completed the process. Give credit where it is due

The federal government has commenced discussions with the Taraba State Governor, Mr Dickson Ishaku to construct a 3050megawatts (mw) Mambilla Hydropower Plant in the state, Power Minister, Babatunde Fashola has announced.

“We have opened discussions with the Governor of Taraba State, Governor Dickson Ishaku, who incidentally was once a minister of state for power," he said.

“The first thing to do is to acquire the land and deal with compensation issues, which the governor has promised to deal with.”

He said the project would be “the single largest power plant with over 3,000mw in one place and it potentially takes us close to steady power" if built.

“The feasibility study has been done and so too the environmental impact assessment. We move one day at a time closer to starting Mambilla," he added.

The project has been valued at $5.732billion (about N1.140trillion) with the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract proposed for two Chinese companies, Gezhouba Construction Group Corporation (CGGC), and the Sinohydro Corporation.

An official said the project would take 63 months to complete and be handed over to the federal government.

Nigeria is expected to contribute 25 per cent of the project’s fund while the China Export Import Bank provides 75 per cent.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown. That's why its always very easier to pick bones in government policies than to profer solution or rather make it work. Its hard to see the frame when u are in the picture.

And that's said, I think starting the plant is the first step in the right direction, as we all know every mega project anywhere in the world takes time. As Warren Buffet rightly pointed it out, "no matter how talented, powerful or influential u may be, somethings just gat to take time. You can't produce a baby in a month by impregnating 9 women".

Completed the process by doing exactly what?? Has there being any formal agreement to that effect?? Was it mentioned in Fashola's "Chinese Takeaway"? It could have being signed a month ago in China if it was ready as you want us to believe.

they have hydro electric potential. large gradient drops, ours is limited. In fact the hydro potential in Congo can actually power a third of Africa but we don't control that. a thermal generator costs 10 naira while solar and wind cost 100 naira. which would you go for if you had a 1 naira budget

By renegotiating the contract and reaching a workable agreement. For over 30 years, we have been trying to do the project. Finally, it looks like something is about to start.

The renegotiation of Mambilla took place in December 2015 not on the last China trip and it was mentioned in the media.

"Buhari is expected to discuss the funding of the $12 billion 1402 kilometres coastal rail project, re-negotiate the stalled N8.3billion Lagos-Kano rail project as well as the Mambilla hydro power project."

http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/buhari-seeks-china-s-help-to-restart-n4tr-rail-projects/122647.html#tVhw72XFpMHDeap3.99

Lagos-Kano rail was also stalled because we could not pay.
