No project worth that money anywhere in the world last for 63months. You can take that to the bank. Every power engineering project can be delivered in no more than 36months. Any thing above this will mean the technology is old by the time it is installed and the component are not available in the market for OEM replacement. Plus it allows for contract cost renegotiation due to exchange rate difference over this time which has bugged down almost all our project, a clear departure from the past with smart project managers who can plan and execute project that will result in dividend delivery to US without the long wait and excuses. 1 Like |

This country is so hard to rule, I really pity our leaders. There's so many moronic comments on this thread. How do you expect a government of just one year to fix all the problems of over 50 years? The people in this government seem to have good intentions, and they seem to be doing a few things right. They are still unsettled, as the country is facing an economic meltdown apart from so many security and political issues. This is going to take any government sometime to solve this. There are so many unpatriotic Nigerians who only think about their own personal gains even if it destroys the country. People from the East are hellbent on destroying this government, irrespective of their best intentions. Boko Haram is another issue. Easterners(so called Biafrans) want to make sure that this government fails, mainly because the government is blocking the source of their stolen funds. Unfortunately Nigeria does not have enough infrastructure to deal with these rogues calling themselves militants. Irrespective of the degree of militancy, Biafra is no more and cannot be resuscitated, the rest of Nigeria will not allow it. The sooner people get this into their thick skulls, the better 2 Likes 1 Share |

Everybody has just ignored u pple. Wen u guys r ready and see that u r being left behind maybe some senses might emerge. Even in Bayelsa, they said "We can't allow this to happen. If GEJ did not do PMB now wants to do it. What will pple say?" Wat sort of mentality is that. Abeggi. u pple should stop disturbin jare. Tell ur govs to bring back ur money from their accounts |

tbaba1234: Tbaba you may not be too correct as actual constructions don't take that long. Maybe Environment Impact Assessment Procurement Permits and other legal works if combined then yes, but actual construction like in this case can be consummated in no less than 36months. It is an sadly true that power technology is not rapidly changing but it is changing at a pace shorter than the time frame of this project. Additionally, hydro-dams are gradually incorporating other forms of generation to augment during low water situations. Examples include hydro-dams with Close Combined gas turbine system with hydro systems. Or hydro with thermal system. hydro and wind plus a whole lot of other mix. What makes it more interesting is that no hydro-dam is built on a singular operating principle anymore as a curtail of energy mix is usually planned with it, but tbaba am sure this has no such plan as they were not forward looking. Yes technology may not change that fast, but it changes nonetheless with the attendant OEM spare part issues when it is commission. I have a lot of examples here in the plant I work in...where the manufacturers of the parts used in some project have either stop stocking the parts or liquidate altogether. |

isnovic: Yes, you are correct. I am talking about the whole project. Seeing that the site is not yet secure, i will think that the preparation phase is not yet complete. If that is the case, then 5 years is a reasonable estimate. The old dams were built a very long time ago so new technology would affect the availability of old parts. But i think 5 years in Hydro is not the same as 5 years in wind, as technology change is much more rapid in wind. 1 Like |
