This question is really a no brainier, and if you're a recruiter, it's even more disappointing that you asked such a question. Why would any sane person lay focus or emphasis on his/her weaknesses? Like someone said above, it's better to leave the recruiter curious. You can better defend your poor grade in person, than letting your CV do that for you. |

That moment when you have a 2.2 and you're employed yet wondering and you still don't understand the post. 2.2 is very very much accepted by Nigerian companies. |

LastMumu:Every idiot and his dog know that when people omit 2.1 from Second class grade, it automatically means 2.2. ![]() No exception. When you're given a chance to come for an interview, it's not because you fooled your prospective employer. ![]() |

BodyKiss:Well, if the recruiter specified 2.1 and you left it out in your CV, what's special about your CV, among many 1.1 and 2.1 submitted to make recruiters curious? It simply means you have not met that minimum grade criterion having failed to clearly state it. ![]() |

Beautifulemi:Fact is there are many people chasing few jobs. Grade is initial screening tool to avoid a deluge of of applications. 95% of the time, your intellect will reflect in your grade. Of course, bereavement, financial worries and so on can negatively affect grade. Except you're applying for woodwork, iron bender, rewire and so on. Whereby your strength lies in your manual skills. ![]() |

henryhemon:Really? Well, some of the word's best companies recruiting from my university back in the day clearly requested grades. I wonder if you would consider Barclay's Bank, HSBC, the largest pharmaceutical & insurance companies unserious. A good grade means you worked over many years towards excellence. At least in climes where buying pamphlets and settling lecturers don't determine your grade. Top companies want the very best. Guess what, they correlate it with your grade. Not the son or daughter of so & so or reference from certain big individuals matter. |

Lastmumu thank you for that epic reply! Don't mind the OP. How e take concern am? We all know that most Nigerian graduates(excluding foreign-schooled counterparts) didnt earn their grades through studying hard, with the high level of corruption in the education sector! So better play smart, than be sorry! Thank God employers are now trying to employ 'quality'and not 'grades'. |

AreaFada2:A wrong assertion. Even some 2.1 graduate don't remember to include it. Unless your employer specified that it must be on your CV, it is not mandatory |
| Re: Why Do 2.2 Graduates Smartly Omit Their Grades On Their Cvs by sonnie10: 4:02am On May 09, 2016 |
I have a first class, so when I went for my first interview, the HR person asked me why I did not include that in my resume. I told her that I did not see any need to do so. And this is what she said, "it is your achievement, adding it to your resume is not bragging." |
| Re: Why Do 2.2 Graduates Smartly Omit Their Grades On Their Cvs by AreaFada2: 4:51am On May 09, 2016 |
femi4:How many forget that? You think removing/forgetting the grade will sell you better initially than including it? If you forget that maybe you don't deserve the 2.1. I have seen many CV formats, attended cv writing sessions even as a student and how it has changed over the past 20 years plus. From including age, nationality and not including them. From including all qualifications/degrees to not including if attained over ten years earlier unless crucial to the job you seek, etc. You could say nothing is mandatory. You can also write just your name and address and post. And wait for prospective employer to call you because you have made them curious with that. And they now have a burning desire to know your degree course, school, profile, aspirations, goals, etc. ![]() |

AreaFada2:Perhaps it ll be better for you argue about what you know. Not all organisations love paper work, some of them do request you fill an online CV format where the classes of degree options are just "Distinction" and "Second class". No column for even your actual grade. In CV writing, we know those stuffs that are mandatory, and definitely stating your type of second class is not one of them. Human resources are more concerned about your vision, authenticity of your certificates and results irrespective of your class and your ability to meet their set goals. In Nigeria, emloyer required for specified age, grade, location and other factors to reduce the no of application received |

AreaFada2:Leave the Joneses..HR practioners always grin when they receive CVs with no grades. Most end up in the bin. If you have ever wondered why you don't get called for interviews... This is the reason. Better to call someone who is confident of his grade than to call those who have something to hide... |

The reason I think is simple. Those are about the best and the most dynamic sets of graduates that can survive in their own.some as a result of their level of IQ while others are those that were struggling with both academics and means of livelihood while in school. So they have thick skin and can withstand any pressure at work. |

funarosho:May Almighty Godbless you and I this morning for this your comment. See the breakdown of what you just said. " if God is no respecter of any man definitely he is bound to show mercy to whomever he so desires" so the prayer that has been working for me is that God have mercy on me I am hopeless and see if it doesn't work. femi4:if that is the case why the lamentation of many 2.2 graduates here and outside here? It does not matter which format the cv takes, online or hard copy, it is still CV. And anyone confident of his grade will include it. A friend of mine from UK top university, with a 2.2, with internship experience and more, never even got the chance to state his vision. All his 2.1 and 1.1 fellow graduates with less internship or none were interviewed with most employed or even selecting which offer to accept. He only got to work in a multinational after MSc. In 9ja we know that anything goes depending on long leg. ![]() |

| Re: Why Do 2.2 Graduates Smartly Omit Their Grades On Their Cvs by haibe(m): 7:25am On May 09, 2016 |
AreaFada2:I beg to disagree.. this classes or grades actually do not make make sense, at least to a large extent. You call someone that finished with a 3.49 a second class lower student and label him "dull" or "less intelligent " You then call someone that finished with a 3.50 a second class upper student and label him a more intelligent fellow. You refuse to give the former a job because of your assumption, while you give the latter a job because of your assumption. The first thing to note is that the difference between these two is insignicant and putting them in different class doesn't make sense at all. It is very possible that the guy with 3.49 is actually a better student depending on the difficulty of his course of study, strictness of the examiners, human error while marking his scripts, the conditions of learning in his school environment .. etc.. in order words basing your decision on absolute figures can be misleading, factors that could determine a good grade should always be put into concern. What most employers do is like investing in a company simply because it has a higher profit than other companies, without taking into consideration factors that could have led to the higher profit (like the weighted average number of shares used to generate the profit and other capital). All in all, those classes are meaningless as they ascribe an ability to a person based on historical conditions, you should employ people based on what they are now or who they are now, not who they are 7 years ago. So I totally disagree with you that 95% of the time, your grade shows your intelligence, that's too false. |
