Ever wondered why the biggest stakeholders of Igbo descent don't think in your line of argument? It is because all the issues you raised exist in all countries and it does not prevent their people from developing and achieving the best they can. Have you ever thought about industrialists of Igbo descent making it big in the huge market you are giving excuses about? What do they see that you do not see? On the business side have thought about the worth of Igbo peoples holdings outside the south east? You breakaway advocates never comes up with a good enough reason for your demands. (Ojukwu's reason was the pogrom but his father told him not to cry more than the bereaved but he refused) The Igbo will be the greatest losers in a disintegrated Nigeria, the same way they lost their holdings and properties during and after the civil war. No one destroys his own, if you have a good stake in this big market you will not be calling for its destruction. I will stop here.
The properties are irrelevant. Don't you get that?
The future of generations unborn are at stake. You can keep it all. Afterall, you people claim these investments are not worth much anyway .
If biafra becomes a country like south korea, then igbos would be better off and the sacrifice well worth it.
Nigeria is not our own, sorry. Yours maybe, Ofcourse, you are favoured by the dysfuctionality.
Just like you said, we lost it all before to a wicked nation, and we build it all up again. There is no reason why we can't replicate that again in our new country.

******* Ogun state, South-west Nigeria is Nigeria's newest Industrial Juggernaut *******

It began as a trickle, but now, it is no more news, that Ogun state in South-Western Nigeria is the new juggernaut in the fields of Industry and Academic institutions. It can be said that the state is currently experiencing an unprecedented industrial revolution, as an ever increasing stream of Companies, Industries and firms are beginning to site production plants, Warehouses and all kind of facilities in the state, From Dangote's Ibeshe plant (The largest in Africa), to various new Industrial and Power plants in the state, the new manufacturing plants that have commenced production in Ogun State belong to the biggest industrial concerns in the world, and are by no means minnow.. A former governor of Ogun State once described Lagos State as being attached to the belly of Ogun State. This description is reasonably apt, considering that Ogun is geographically the only or closest neighbor to Lagos, with both states conjoined through a vast borderline.- And the increasingly important role Lagos is playing in Nigeria and Africa, is beginning to Yield dividends in no small measure, for its much more endowed and bigger neighbor (ogun). The Huge metropolis that is Lagos has also spilled into Ogun state on many fronts, and state boundaries have blurred out.

While Lagos is undoubtedly ahead as the main station in terms of the service industry establishments, where the headquarters of banks, major business concerns and also the Stock Exchange and other financial centres are located, Ogun has also been accelerating towards emerging as the centre of industrial activities. Presently, investors in the manufacturing sector actually consider Ogun State a more alluring and conducive site for their activities. These investors have been drifting into the state at an unprecedented rate in the last three years, From the Sango Otta axis to Agbara, Ewekoro, Ibese, Ifo, Ibafo, Magboro and Sagamu, where numerous major manufacturing firms have registered their presence.

Industrial hub: Why more companies are moving to Ogun

hus, according to the Governor,”today, Ogun State is not only open for business, it is business”. For him, the economic gains are there for all to see. With 123 companies showing readiness to locate their manufacturing outfits in the state and 32 of this figure already on ground at different levels of operation, while 27 have fully commenced operations, Ogun no doubt is gradually becoming the hottest ‘industrial hub’ in town. Perhaps, it is against this backdrop that the State government says its Bureau of Lands and Survey is being restructured to make it more efficient with transparent and accountable operations.

Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria: Nigeria's New Industrial Hub

Before 2011, the state could only muster an average of N730 million on a monthly basis as IGR. Since 2012, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has been having the commissioning of manufacturing plants as a constant programme swelling his schedule of activities. These include the commissioning of Dangote Cement Plant, WEMPCO Steel Mills, and the multi-billion naira AADL ethanol manufacturing plant at Igbesa, Ogun State. These particularly big events, underline the magnitude of the investments that have been attracted into the state recently.

The ethanol plant, constructed by Allied Atlantic Distilleries Ltd., has since started the production of ethanol, which is a major component in the making of wines and spirits, with cassava being the raw material that is available in huge quantities in Ogun State. Earlier, in January 2014, at the P&G plant commissioning ceremony, the governor, in an upbeat mood, announced that despite the massive project being the 43rd since the inception of his administration, 20 others were already on the waiting list. The optimistic governor’s target is to commission 100 industries in the state before May, 2015.

Ogun State attracted over N690bn investments in 2014

OGUN State government has said that the state attracted over N690 billion investments in 2014, signaling its emergence as the nation’s number destination for private sector investment. Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, disclosed this while addressing a press conference ahead of this year’s Ogun State Investor’s forum. He said that over 90 companies have invested in the state within the space of five years that his administration opened the state for business, adding that more than 10 additional companies are waiting for commissioning with each investing not less than $100 million, “When we start this Investors Forum in 2012, it was like a test case, but precisely on 14th of February, 2014 prior to the second edition we took drastic action and approached World Bank.” “If you remember, in term of doing business in Nigeria, Ogun State was number 35, but when we adjusted in those areas where there were complaints, we moved from 35 to number third.” “In 2014 alone, new investment of about N514.87 billion came in to the state and before the end of that year, it eventually rose to N691. 77 billion. As at this year, we have close to 2000 people who have applied for land among other thing, but we are very conscious because we want genuine investors.” Amosun hinted that some of these developments have made the state ranked fourth in area of Internally Generated Revenue, “To encourage these investors, we created One-Stop Shop Investment Centre, OSSIC, to assist potential investors with procedure for investment and documentation processing. We are glad to announce that, the largest American investment in Nigeria is situated in Ogun State.” He explained that all the achievement and success story did not come as a magic, but through creation of enabling environment, “We constructed more than 14 link bridges, rehabilitated Ota Akute road, Mowe Ibafo road, Agbara Industrial Estate and reduced rates of access to commercial and agricultural land. We have also improved in area of security.” Speaking on the focus of this year Investor Forum, the Chairperson, Organizing Committee and Honourabe Commissioner Budget and Planning, Ms Adenrele Adesina said that the renewed focus is to make environment friendly, movement of goods more easier and creation of transformation through agriculture were the focus of this year gathering.

We cannot wait to run away? Maybe you probably don't realize that your dysfunctional country where the smallest state in Nigeria accounts for over 40% of commercial activities due to decades of loopsided federal govt developmental policies is the reason for such inordinate migrations where even SW states nearby are feeling the heat of mass migration.
Anyway, when Nigeria divides, you can deport those gala sellers you like insulting. We need their raw strength to build our new country.
Ofcourse, you don't want Nigeria to dabaru. Not when you have lagos to brag about. A city that should not be more than lome status under normal equilibrium.

The problem with you people is living too much on sentiments instead of facts, strategies and basic human realities. Many of you know little or nothing about your own history and Nigeria's history hence coming up with bogus and irrelevant argument.

Your failed leaders are fond of pointing fingers and blaming other people for their incompetence and lack of care for their own people.

I really need to school you people with facts and honest realities.

FG's presence in Lagos was limited to Lagos Island and the only FG projects in Lagos state was the airport which they have in the east too, bad and horrible un maintained FG roads, eko bridge, 3rd mainland bridge and old and neglected FG secretariat.

There is nothing like lopsided FG development anywhere and every corner of Nigeria is a victim of the same FG neglect and decay, Lagos is just lucky simply because of colonization, Awolowo and credible, skillful and competent subsequent leaders from Mobolaji Johnson to Jakande, Tinubu, Fashola and now Ambode.

Lagos was already developed before Nigeria became a country.

Let's go back to before independence and during the regional governments when the north, southeast and SW started on the same level playing field and also when all the regions controlled their own destiny and before the civil war.

The North had groundnut, the SE had coal and what I don't know and the SW had cocoa and rubber The premiers of all the regions were responsible for developing and progressing their respective regions via whatever administrative skills and intelligence at their disposal.

Lagos is an industrial state not because if any FG action since all the industries and industrial estates responsible for our major industrial out put today from Ijeka industrial, to matori, mushi, ilupeju and apapa industrial estates ware built by the old western region under Awolowo before Nigeria became a country so exactly what's FG got to do with Lagos state.

Lagos state is reaping from what Awolowo and the old western region planted before independence and before Nigeria as a country.

We know apart from the industrial estates, he created Oodua group of companies that;s still thriving today with major companies and hotels

Now, can you please tell us what Zik planted for you in the SE to reap from? Nothing

FG left Lagos state decades so what again is Lagos state's business with the FG? Is the FG giving Lagos state any free ride or free derivations or special status money? No

Lagos is thriving because of good and competent leaders and managers, not because of any FG investments.

Lagos make money from IGR and loans which they spend on infrastructures and government services, they scout for investments from all over the world relentlessly and they get great results.

Even other states in SW are following Lagos state with the same economic plan, we saw Ogun yesterday with their major economic summit

How many investments summits have any state in the SE organized?

What are the leader in SE doing economically to develop that region? Nothing.

The average SE leader and people in the SE have a FG is the father and mother mentality, they depend on the government for everything and they blame the same FG government for their incompetence and inability to develop their region.

You wan't airport, you blame FG, you want road, you blame FG, you want bridge, you blame FG.

But Ogun want bridge, they build it, ekiti want airport, they build their own, Osun want airport, they build their own, Yola want airport, they build their own si why can you not do anything on your own?

Only the SE sit on their hands, cry, yell and blame other people and the FG for everything.

If you can not do anything for yourself now, how exactly are you going to do anything with your biafra?

You can beat your chest all you want, but we know the truth, we know your capacity and we know what happen and how you did not achieve anything during regional administration when we all controlled our destiny..

Why must everything be a competition. You think the south east or northeast or north west doesn't have developed areas like this. Every state in nigeria has areas that are developed for those who can afford it.

Stop this nonsense. When something positive is repeated about an area of nigeria that you are not from, it does not mean you should come and start trying to showoff or argue that your area is also good or even better.

It doesn't have to resort to that. Just acknowledge it and move on. The report is not insulting anyone, it is facts based.

I'm tired of people like you. Always wanting to incite negativity

This shows me you are living in a fantasy land. Read up all nations that had independence from their former countries, how federal assets were shared. South Sudan comes to mind. Anambra and Enugu shared assets when the state was divided. How can you tell me to forget my hard earned property outside the SE because of your separatist dream! Who will pay me for another property in the SE etc etc etc. No insult meant but I thought I was chatting with a person above 45 years. In Igbo land the same ethnic problem you raised exists. Enugu people used to call Anambra people Ndi Agbe Enu, when they were existing in one state! During the civil war every adult male was conscripted except Nnewi males and they were freely doing business. What does that tell you? You just confirmed my statement that you do not have a stake in this market, that is why you want it burnt.

He said his administration had invested in infrastructural development and created enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Amosun, who said before he became the governor the state had ranked 29 among the business hubs of the nation, stated that within his first term in office, the state had moved from 29 to number two position.

He said, “This is the third edition of the Investors’ Forum. Since we started with the theme: Ogun Opens For Business, about five states have adopted the same theme.

“I am to tell you that Ogun State is the industrial hub of Nigeria; Currently, we have over 90 industries in the state. More are still on the way.”

Amosun also said the construction of an airport in the state had become a necessity and not a luxury anymore, given the number of investors and workers flocking to the state.

Ogun now 5th in ease of doing business in Nigeria

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has announced that the state has moved from the 35th position according to the ranking of the World Bank to the 5th position on ease of doing business in Nigeria.
He stated this at the 3rd edition of the Ogun state investors’ forum which commenced yesterday in Abeokuta with the theme “Ogun State: The Emerging Economic Powerhouse” with special focus on three key sectors “Agriculture, Environment and Transportation”.
Amosun stated that the Ogun state investors forum was launched four years ago with an aim to open up the state for business.
He informed that the key points outlined in the communique at that time had all been achieved.
According to him, this year’s investors’ forum seeks to engage key stakeholders, particularly in the private sector on how opportunities inherent to the rapid urbanisation of the state can be harnessed.

Governor welcomes admission of Lagos into Odua group

grin grin grin

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday expressed joy and enthusiasm on the admission of the state as the sixth member of the Odu’a Group.
Ambode, in a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, described it as a major landmark in the effort of the South-Western states of Nigeria toward regional integration.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the decision to admit the state to Odu’a Group was taken at the end of a meeting of the five governors of Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti States in Ibadan on Tuesday.
Ambode said he believed that the drive toward regionally integrating the region could not be effectively pursued if all the states in the region did not combine their resources and maximise their comparative advantages.
According to him, this will help to build a strong regional infrastructural and social link amongst the states.
"Lagos joining the Odu’a Group is a priority for this administration," he said.
According to him, the state, with its huge population and vibrant economic base, is uniquely placed to contribute to the development and growth of the Odu’a Investment Company Limited.
He said that the state was poised to contribute to the investment arm of the group and the integration of the region.
The governor expressed his gratitude to the group for the decision and looked forward to his government working with other states toward the betterment and development of the region and its people.

S-West is Nigeria’s kidnap capital

Report On October 2, 20154:59 amIn News, Special Report, Trending0 Comments 228 0 0 “A result of a recent survey it conducted shows that you are more likely to be abducted in the South West than any other region in Nigeria.” Contrary to the perception that kidnapping is more prevalent in the South East and South South geo-political zones, a recent survey shows that people are more likely to be kidnapped in the South West than any other region in Nigeria. The 2013 National Crime Victimisation and Safety Survey conducted by CLEEN Foundation with support from the United States based Macarthur Foundation shows that the South West has the highest incidents of kidnapping with 5 per cent of the respondents from the region saying they have either been kidnapped or attempts have been made to kidnap them. The South South and the South East closely follows with a 4 per cent kidnap rate. The region with the lowest rate of kidnapping is the North Central region with 2 per cent.  Rape and Attempted Rape With a 10 per cent incident of rape or attempted rape, the South South region is the rape capital of the country followed by the North East (6 per cent) and the South West and North West (4 per cent each). The South East is the region with the lowest propensity for rape with just 1 per cent. The survey also shows that the national incidence of rape almost doubled from 3 per cent in 2011 to 5 per cent in 2013. Most of the respondents who claimed to have been raped said they were raped in and around their homes. Thirty-three per cent said they were raped nearest to their homes; 19 per cent were raped in their homes while 13 per cent of cases of rape occurred in schools or places of work.  Robberies IGP-Solomon-Arase The survey shows that cases of robbery rose 1 per cent from last year nationally. Kaduna recorded the highest cases of robbery with 43 per cent closely followed by Akwa-Ibom 42 per cent and Cross River 39 per cent. Jigawa and Kano States recorded the lowest cases of robbery with 5 and 3 per cents respectively. The survey shows that more needs to be done about security in and around homes as 63 per cent of respondents said robberies occurred in homes or near to home. Physical Assaults South East states recorded the highest rate of physical assaults, the report showed. Enugu State had the highest cases of assault with 84 per cent, closely followed by Ebonyi (77 per cent) Rivers (58 per cent) and Anambra (50 per cent). The cases of physical assault in Abuja rose from 15 per cent last year to 24 per cent. However cases of physical assault dropped drastically in Niger State from 68 per cent in 2012 to 6 per cent this year. Also physical assault dropped from 23 per cent in 2012 to 8 per cent this year in Jigawa State. Meantime, an Akure  Magistrates’ Court recently remanded a 25-year-old man, Taiwo Ebenezer, in prison for allegedly kidnapping a 21-year-old, Olayemi Olatunji. The Chief Magistrate, Mr Sunday Adedapo, who handed down the verdict, said Ebenezer should be kept behind bars at Olokuta Prisons in Akure pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). According to reports,  the court did not take the plea of the accused in spite of efforts by his counsel, Mr Ademola Abemkemo to secure bail for him. The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a two count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping. The prosecutor, ASP Pelumi Adejuwon, had earlier told the court that the accused with others still at large, kidnapped Olatunji. Adejuwon said the accused and his accomplices were armed with a gun, cutlasses and some other dangerous weapons when they committed the offences. According to him, the accused committed the offences on May 7 between 8.00 a.m. and 6. 00 p.m. at Ayeyemi Street, Ondo. He said the kidnap was, however, foiled when the victim raised an alarm which attracted passers-by who apprehended the accused. The offences, Adejuwon said, contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006. The offences also violated Section 3(1) of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law of Ondo State, 2010. The case was adjourned till June 22 for mention. 228 0 0 YOU MAY LIKE Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/s-west-is-nigerias-kidnap-capital-report/

Lagos Assembly makes Yoruba language compulsory in public, private schools

Worried by the dwindling popularity of Yoruba language among residents of the state, the Lagos State House of Assembly has directed that teaching and learning of the language be made compulsory in all public and private schools in the state.

The House, in a Motion, ruled that Yoruba language should be taught for at least three periods in a week for proper effect.

Members of the House, on the seventh year anniversary since the adoption of Yoruba language for Thursdays’ plenary, bemoaned the non-familiarity with the language often called “vernacular” in schools, particularly the private ones, just as the “ban” on speaking Yoruba and other indigenous languages in some homes is not helping matters.

To salvage the situation, the house, therefore, called on governor Akinwunmi Ambode to direct the state Deputy Governor/ Commissioner for Education Dr. Idiat Adebule, to take a quick step in ensuring that the syllabus of public and private schools in the state makes the teaching and learning of Yoruba language compulsory.

Also, “That we should convey a Stakeholders’ Summit to look at the challenges in teaching Yoruba in schools as well as to ensure that Yoruba Language is taught at least three times in a week both in private and public schools.”

Prime mover of the motion and the Majority Leader of the House, Sanai Agunbiade, said that it was high time the state government rose in defence of the language and Yoruba culture that are fast nearing extinction.

Agunbiade added that it had become necessary to call a meeting of the Tutor General, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and all other stakeholders in education sector to know their problems in teaching the language.

According to him, “Most schools today do not speak Yoruba language again and other indigenous languages. In fact, many parents frown at their children speaking Yoruba. We should ensure that Yoruba language does not go into extinction. Other people embrace their language, we should also be proud of ours.

Lagos, SW Nigeria, rakes in N101.69b in first quarter of 2016

The Lagos State Government generated N101.69 billion in the first quarter of 2016 out of which a surplus of N4.85 billion was realized as against an expected N29.92 billion deficit.

This was disclosed by the State’s Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Akinyemi Ashade, on Monday.

Speaking at the ongoing Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja to commemorate Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s first year in office, Ashade said the generated revenue was above that of 2015, which stood at N97.28 billion in the first quarter, adding that in absolute terms, the revenue performance was N4.4 billion more than the comparative period of 2015.

Ashade said the remarkable feat was achieved despite the diminishing statutory allocation from the Federation Account, adding that same was due to Governor Ambode’s purposeful and visionary leadership.

He expressed optimism that with the implementation of multiple revenue collection channels and broadening of the revenue base, the State Government would achieve tremendous progress in its revenue drive.

Giving a detailed breakdown of the budget performance, the Commissioner said N76.06 billion was the Internally Generated Revenue of the State in the first quarter, representing 72 per cent of the estimate for the quarter and 75 per cent of the total revenue, as against the N67.21 billion generated in first quarter of 2015, representing 74 per cent of the estimate and 69 per cent of the total revenue.

Ashade said the Lagos Internal Revenue Service revenue for the first quarter of 2016 stood at N67.25 billion, representing 90 per cent estimate for the quarter and 88 per cent of the total IGR and 66.12 per cent of the total revenue, compared to N60.58 billionn (87 percent of the estimate for Q1 Y2015), representing 90 per cent of total IGR and 62 per cent of total revenue in 2015.

He said: “This performance was N6.67 billion more in absolute terms compared to corresponding period in Y2015 and due largely to more participatory structural and systemic re-engineering.

“Over the course of the first quarter of Y2016, Federal transfers contributed N25.64 billion (83 per cent of the estimate for the quarter) and accounted for 25.21 per cent of total revenue. Further breakdown showed that statutory allocations contributed N7.48 billion, while VAT contributed N18.16 billion.”
