Hmmm....this government needs to make an official statement about the subsidy matter.

Buhari please address the nation, October 1st is still far off.

What exactly is it with Vanguard and distortion of information?.... How do the words of the VP above translate into this title Vanguard has just published?

These guys at Vanguard have proven and re-proven themselves to be anarchists knowing that Nigerians only read titles before airing their opinions. Meanwhile these exact same words by the VP were reported by almost every other media house (including Vanguard) in the past 3 days, but fast-forward to Saturday, Vanguard now thinks the exact same words deserve a new interpretation and title.

This was the same Vanguard that heard Buhari say in a campaign:
"It is not good for the 1 dollar to exchange at N230"

And the next day Vanguard reports:
"I will make N1 = $1"

Now the VP says subsidy removal isnt the main cause of the hike, but rather, the high exchange rate is responsible since marketers now have to source forex at the parallel market.

But of course, Vanguard has a better interpretation of the above simple statement:
FG Has Not Removed Fuel Subsidy

God bless you.

So we now need an English teacher/ instructor to analyze and teach us whatever the governmet said?
Well if that is the case how come fuel now sell at #145 per liter, ok i got u! It's called deregulation, the fuel marketers source for money on their own and imports sells according to exchange rate.
All i see is a way by which the FG is now using to embazzle our money because they can no longer come up with a figure that they can say is exact amount they are paying as fuel subsidy.

If subsidy has not been removed, then why do you have to increase the pump price* sounds more like a mis-normal.

What I understand and have understood for a long while is - their is no foreign exchange to support importation - we get our foreign exchange from the sales of oil, we have a challenge of balance of the 2 of them, and have to reduce export, in-exchange for the local consumption*

All, I know is that my F.g have to come and talk with the people, let us talk about everything- from the wage bills to pricing to every aspect of government. undecided

Don't confuse yourself.
Sometimes its best you read/listen from the government authorities directly.

the FG didn't fix a price, they made a price band of 135-145 I.e no one should sell above 145 naira.

Also, forget what vanguard's headline. they just need cheap crowd.

U r no more confused than I am

You guys need not get confused, in the first place the OP is wrong with the headline, there is no part of the story that says subsidy has not been removed, it only says the main issue about the price template is not basically based on subsidy removal, but based on the fact that the gov't or do I say CBN cannot afford to provide forex for importers, thus they 're asked to seek their forex wherever, bring fuel and sell, but with d condition that whatever you bring including your profit must not be sold above 145naira, thus if you can't get ur own at most 145 naira sales, then don't bother bring in.
I think it's a good idea really, cos to me if am in d opposition I'll just finance some of my peeps, bring in quality fuel and ensure I sell as low as 60naira and start propaganda against this present government.

No you dont need an English teacher or instructor, all you needed to understand the message were your eyes and your brain. And the message I passed was simple, NOWHERE WITHIN THE QUOTED STATEMENT OF THE VP DID IT SAY THAT FUEL SUBSIDY HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED. Vanguard just came up with the stupid title either because their journalist who reported the story and their editors are daft or because they intentionally want to create confusion.

The only reason Vanguard would come up with such obviously dubious report is because they knows there are a lot of Nigerians out there who even though they have primary education, are too intellectually lazy to deploy their basic reading and comprehension skills to spot the trick.

This vp that looks like one of my Aunt's goat in a the village has come with another fake lecture again.

No much left of the subsidy to be removed indeed. That's a pointer for future failure as he will come up latter to say they didn't save much from the subsidy.

If care is not taken, this administration will carry out the most brilliant organized fee fraud in Nigerian history.

I just pray a viable opposition wins the next election so that the books will be open on them too.

Zombies will definitely support this.

MaziOmenuko:
Can someone explain in clear terms what the VP is offering.
If the hike is as a result of none access to forex, does it mean that the more dollars rises at the parallel market, the more the price of PMS shoots up? I don't even understand again.

The VP is only saying Nigeria don't have enough dollars to bring in fuel via NNPC anymore, so you and I can bring in fuel now by sourcing our dollars from anywhere. This will ease off pressure from our foreign reserves and NNPC, and also make the product readily available as it is a profitable business.

Also, the govt in a bid to protect the masses, put the maximum price at N145, because people can bring the product and want to sell for as high as N250, but the govt having calculated every cost is saying reasonable profit will still be made at N145, so don't sell above it.

It's not even the Op's fault, I think the fault os from Vanguard newspaper. I think for obviously political reasons, Vanguard has severally distorted information glaringly. But they know how intellectually lazy Nigerians are to read and comprehend, that's why they still do these little tricks to distort and confuse the public for political reasons.

The first time I noted this trick by Vanguard was in the infamous "I will make N1 = $1" statement which was never made by Buhari. Buhari said "it is not good for a dollar to exchange for N230" but the next day Vanguard reported, "I will make N1 = $1" and up till date, the delibrate falsehood is still stuck on the minds of people.
