darlenese:Funny girl. Reverse side indeed. You think the white man didn't think of that before stamping those numbers of the tires, huh? For your information, the expiry date plus other tire information on tires is printed on both sides of the tires so which side is really the reverse side? ![]() |

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A 4 YEAR TYRE EXPIRY DATE, its just illiterate FRSC officials trying to extort people. You don't believe me, fine lets go to the source http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/learn-share/buying-guide/when-should-i-change-my-tyres http://www.continental-tires.com/car/technology/tire-knowledge/lex-1-2 http://www.moderntiredealer.com/article/312312/final-words-on-tire-aging But Nigeria is hot you say, hotter than Texas, hotter than Dubai. Now if the manufacturers who make the tires and thus have a vested interest in us buying as many as possible don't think or claim that tires expire after 4 years, how did FRSC come about this information, many of these tyre companies actually offer 4 and 5 year warranties on their products. Like i said it's just primary six dropouts in uniforms sprouting rubbish rather than do some empirical research and creating rules based around that. Also bear in mind that after a tyre has been manufactured it will take another 3 months at least to get to Nigeria, so these idiots are claiming that if a tyre sits in a store for 1 year after that then it's only safe on the road for 2 and a half years, |

Coldfeets:I will state it again categorically. TYRES DO NOT HAVE EXPIRY DATES STAMPED ON THEM!!! Tyres have only week and year of manufacture stamped on them. tyres are written off when they have worn below the thread ware limit, when they develop cracks, bulges or warp. tyres are supposed to be inspected during road worthiness checks by "VIO". however that never happens as they don't even know their duties. what I stated above are what FRSC should be looking out for and not manufacture date. Michelin guarantees their tyres for 5 or more years. some other manufacturers give longer warranties. now tell me what right FRSC has to condemn my Michelin tyre made in 2012 when I still 1 year warranty left and enough thread depth on my tyres? |

This is ridiculous and unfortunately anti-people. Is this some sick way to generate revenue? There is no tyre manufacturing company in the country, and the same government allows second hand and expired tires to come in. They should engage in sensitisation, training and orientation about tyre pressure, vehicle inspection, bringing in quality tyres, good roads, speed checks. What is their plan to curb overspeeding and overloading? How about assasinlike truck driving common to most of our haulage drivers? Where are safety signs, pothole repairs, zebra crossing and implementation? These are some of their part and work, but no, they'd rather lazily seize vehicles to extort people. Not fair at all. |

tunisianstar:You may have a point there but in the course of my own research as regards to the expiration dates of tires, I stumbled on the information that the expiry date is not actually dependent on the number of miles you put your tires through but more or less on the material used in making the tires—which is rubber in this case. A report stated that tires can even expire right there in the warehouse because the rubber material starts degrading and losing its elastic properties right from the date of manufacture! |

I wonder how FRSC arrived at 4 years (and we fell for it) when they do not manufacture tyre. They do not have the right and we should be able to confront them on this. Some tyre manufacturers give up to 5 YEARS WARRANTEE from the date of manufacture. Some experts say tyres could last up to 10 years but no tyre expert (FRSC is not) can tell exactly how long a tyre will last. Regardless of the age of a tyre, there are signs - bulging, cracking of tread grooves or sidewall, etc you should use to know when to replace your tyre. No be person go tell you. Na periodic Inspection. |
