FG is not sincere about this subsidy. Lai Muhammed said that the SUBSIDY will create above 200,000 jobs and my Oga Osinbajo said that subsidy has not been removed. I am just confused. It's not easy to understand the ways of insincere people. |

kYjelly2:yet it is not. It is a revenue generation technique from the federal government. At 40 dollars per barrel If they remove the subsidy, it will be 99 naira according to kachikwu and yet NNPC will be selling at that same 145 meaning that 46 naira will go to the pocket of the federal government. |

One thing I know is, even if fuel sells at 300 per litre, Nigerians will survive. Nigerians need to support this decision for their overall good. |

Dottore: I don't even agree it's wrongly timed. I believe it simply shocked a number of us. During the GEJ era, our organization campaigned for subsidy removal. However, we maintained that the government of the day had no moral ethos to make citizens bear the suffering when it was busy stealing and mismanaging the commonwealth. We wanted govt to put a few things in place prior to deregulation. Things like: retooling the refineries, serious investment in public infrastructure, reduction in waste of public funds in all MDAs by foreign travels cum excessive allowances etc. That the government should simply pull its own weight before demanding that citizens pull theirs. Today, I can't say that the Buhari government hasn't made the effort: refineries are back contributing albeit a small percentage of the daily consumption, there are plans for mass transport investments in roads and rail, the Efficiency Unit is doing a great job...etc. I believe time will tell and that this President has proven capability for public trust. 3 Likes |

jmichlins:i support your comment sir, all the money they are enjoying can't be reduced abi they can't sacrifice their salary for a year or 2, we can't pay for what they have stolen, it is criminal to be held responsible for what we knew nothing abt, they need to sacrifice their money not the masses sacrificing and be held in suffering |
Re: Fuel Hike : Aircrafts Pilot & Engineers Reject Joining NLC Strike by Joarams(m): 11:28am On May 15, 2016 |
dapipson: The debate is beyond SUBSIDY. Subsidy is when government pays petrol marketers (filling station retailers) to sell at a regulated price despite the prevailing market price. We were never supposed to be in that permanent state. The government was supposed to constantly recalculate pump price both upwards and downwards within the subsidy regime (using rules of the Petrol Equalization Fund) therefore resulting in savings for the government in times of low oil prices and losses in times of high oil prices. Today, we're in the not-so-different era of PRICE MODULATION I.e. not complete regulation. Which is why it has been termed GUIDED DEREGULATION by some analysts. Government will use more realistic price calculators like exchange rate factors to determine the best pump price (or a price band) for retailers and this is expected to be done more frequently (I believe quarterly now). Government will NOT pay subsidy to anyone for any interim losses, so at such times (prior to price recalculations, in case of sharp market fluctuations) citizens will witness speculation, hoarding and the other market gimmicks which are realities in any real (imperfect) market. |

NLC alone should go ahead with their planned strike action because we all know what the end result will be. This one that everything is hard, they want to had more problem, hunger is not a good thing o. |

jmichlins: Very true, what is the point to go on strike day after when everyone still buy at 145, if NLC was serious they should have done it the very next day. On a more serious point, let deregulation take place no more hidden charges and what is gotten be put on basic infrastructure for all to benefit. If strike take place, the poor suffer more. That is the FACT, where was NLC then it was announced?? |

It's so pity that we're citizens of a country where her leaders are not honest. Here are what I have to say. The same Buhari that said Abacha stole nothing, but today, Nigeria has been refunded in millions of dollars from Abacha loots. The same Buhari that said he knows nothing about subsidy, but today, he removed the subsidy. The same Buhari that said he was poor, but today, he said he had not used Nigeria doctor since 1978 and his daughter even flies first class everywhere. The same Buhari that took all arsenal to fight Niger Delta Militants that killed no one, but his kinsmen are killing hundreds across the country unchecked. The same Buhari that made series of promises before election, but today, he makes complaints. I don't have any moral obligation to respect an hypocrite, liar, insensitive and fanatic like Buhari. 1 Like 1 Share |
