Brazil is getting TOT (Transfer of Technology), that's why their Gripen deal is so high.

Not yet bros.
Budget was passed less than 2 weeks ago and I believe it was included in the budget. Only three was budgeted though because of the zero based budgeting (only the amount that can be received this year is included). Although, if the sanction is lifted we might not buy as much as 24 which was previously planned.
What was the reason for the decrease cuz, from what i remember you guys have trouble in maintaining the old F7 and want to replace them
Do they only want to buy 3 for trial purposes or is there some political backlash for large military expenditures?

France, Nigeria to sign defence deal in anti-Boko Haram fight

France and Nigeria are to sign a military cooperation deal in the next few months, following the signing of a letter of intention when Presidents François Hollande and Muhammadu Buhari during an international conference on fighting the Boko Haram in Abuja this weekend. Hollande promised to launch an aid project in the Lake Chad region, where the armed Islamist group is now based.

Hollande and Buhari signed the letter of intention ahead of Saturday's summit.

It opens the way for a defence cooperation deal that will target terrorism and marine piracy.

It will mean French soldiers sharing expertise, such as reading satellite images, and will guarantee that, if they are prosecuted, they will face a court in France, not in Nigeria.

Hollande dubbed Boko Haram, which has declared allegiance to the Islamic State armed group, "the most murderous terrorist group in the world".

France, UK, EU announce aid

While hailing "impressive results" that have drastically reduced its field of operation, he said it was "indispensable that the international community do more".

Buhari estimated that 960 million euros are needed to "eradicate the causes" of the insurgency.

France has already set aside 25 million euros for cooperation with the four armies - from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger - in the multinational force combating Boko Haram and 17 million euros for humanitarian aid.

Hollande promised that the French development aid agency would launch a project for the Lake Chad region, where the four countries meet and where Boko Haram has taken refuge from the offensives.

Despite British Prime Minister David Cameron's remark last week that Nigeria is "fantastically corrupt", Foreign Secretary Phil Hammond promised aid worth 57 million euros over the next four years , while the European Commission is to pay 50 million euros, up until now blocked at African Union level, to support the armies involved in the conflict and 1.7 billion euros in humanitarian aid over three years.

Hollande also promised that the Barkhane force, deployed in the Sahel region, could "intervene every time there is a terrorist risk or acts by the groups".

Multinational force not yet operational

The four-nation force has been theoretically established since last July but there have been growing pains.

Chad's President Idriss Déby called for better coordination and said it was urgent that it be operational before the rainy season.

"If nothing is done in three months all the zone controlled or claimed by Boko Haram today will be under water and we will have to wait till March 2017," he said

US Approves Twenty Submarine Launched Harpoon Missiles To Egypt For $143 Million

The US State Department has approved sale of Twenty UGM-84L Harpoon Block II Encapsulated Missiles and two Encapsulated Harpoon Certification Training Vehicles (EHCTV) to Egypt for $143 million.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale on May 11, 2016.

The Government of Egypt has requested a possible sale of Twenty Harpoon Block II Encapsulated Missiles and Two Encapsulated Harpoon Certification Training Vehicles (EHCTV).

Non-MDE items also included are containers, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, US Government and contractor representative technical assistance, engineering and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support.

The proposed sale of these submarine-launched missiles will support the Egyptian Navy’s Type 209 submarines, increasing its anti-surface warfare and maritime security capabilities. Egypt already possesses Harpoon Block II missiles and will have no difficulty absorbing these additional weapons. The prime contractor will be Boeing.

The information you are asking for can only be provided by top level air force officers but what am sure of is that Nigeria is not buying JF17 thunder because of F7. We really need to replace all our fighter because they are old. Even our alpha-jets are more useful in COIN than the F7.
MB339, L-39, alpha-jets and F7 have not place in modern airforce. We need fighter jets that can launch precision guided munitions and can carry a wide range of weapons. The JF17 thunder meet our current needs and we have plans to add them to our current fleets.

A good reason for reducing the number might be because the block 2 is not upgradable to block 3 and not because we doubt the capabilities. NAF might want to play safe.

South-Africans, what's happening with your Defence Review?

Always major issues about funding in the SANDF, also some not so pleasant news about grounding of your Gripen and Hawk fleet. According to your Defence correspondent Erika Gibson.

Anybody care to enlighten us.

I'd like to add, the JF-17 numbers are probably low because they may be for trial purposes. The JF-17 is an untested Fighter, we would need to see that they meet NAF requirements.

You carry more rounds for same weight and it produces significantly less recoil than larger rifle rounds.

Why would you buy a plane to test a plane?

Obviously they have purchased them with the intention of getting more, its just that either due to funds or Pakistani production capabilities all you could get this annum was 3

Reminder: We ordered and paid for the Gripen in 2001 and only got the last batch in 2011

Erika Gibson is full of sh1t, as usual - the evidence points to the opposite. SAAF has 10 Gripen pilots finishing lead-in training in Russia and the SAAF is expanding the role of the Hawks not dimishing it (Hawks to form operational fighter squadron over Pretoria).

Defence Reveiw Milestone 1 is under implimentation - re-balancing or re-orientating- but there are budgetory issues which SANDF is sorting out through alternate funding models (Getting UN funds for peacekeeping to go to the army instead of the general fiscus, getting re-embersed by the Department of Public works for base maintenance and getting TRANSNET to fund the development of Durban Naval Base). The SANDF is also cutting 4% of senior personel in order to free up more funds for the operational budgets.

Just another day in a peace-time military.

Keen observers of the Nigerian defence space all saw this partnership coming. With a new APC production line budgeted for in the 2016 defence budget, it was only a matter of time.

Here are potential Armoured Vehicles for the military and law enforcement which this JV with Proforce is likely going to produce.
