https://www.nairaland.com/3102373/war-against-boko-haram-start The citizens on Beegs blog have so many times mentioned this near future threat. What's the point of development when you can't secure that development. "A civilization does not have the right to exist. It must exercise the right to exist." Nigeria is along a volatile geopolitical belt on the African continent. At one end of this space is a nation like Algeria which recognises the context it exists in. It has learnt from history and is ready to face any perceivable threat to its existence. Nigeria must learn from a nation like this. My advice to the Nigerian state (putting it in simple language): Arm yourself; improve your defense and intelligence gathering/processing capabilities. Another war is about to begin. 1 Like |

africaken254: Yes, Egypt is the second biggest in DOLLAR TERMS Not in actual output. This is why simply throwing around "GDP" as a basis for evaluation is meaningless... For example, when the American Housing Bubble burst it cost the American GDP a total of $12 trillion that has "dissapeared". Does it mean that all those buisnesses, houses and roads that comprise the US economy magically dissapeared? No. Basically, its the same as evaluating a company based only off its share value and just ignoring all its assets and ability to earn. |

upko1: Inshore Patrol Boats, not Vessel. It's an insignificant number, when compared to what the Nigerian navy orders from home. In the last 11 months, the Nigerian navy and JTF have taken delivery of over 213 inshore patrol boats. Only 9 units of that number was purchased from abroad, every other unit was delivered by a local contractor. 1 Like |

Iblawi1:Does it offer any special capability from the ones being produced in Nigeria locally? I mean why take the money out for minor hardwares like patrol boats if it does not possess any capability not seen on our locally produced ones.(that are fantastic) Then again my opinion won't even count. |

upko1:Some procurement are just for building relationships or might just be for evaluating your own home made product. China recently order SU 35 even though they were working on a better platform like j20 and j31. Seriously, I don't know why Navy order the boats from Asia but I know there is a reason for such move. |

upko1: In truth, it's an absolute waste of money. An investment which should be probed. Especially when one considers that there are literally many, better local alternatives. This Proforce Interceptor should first have been considered before running to Sri-Lanka to buy boats we don't need. $4.2 million is a lot of money apparently wasted on a foreign vendor. 1 Like

upko1: Bot's has a very stable economy And they are very wealthy for their size They also spend ~4% of their GDP on defence - compared to RSA who spends currently 1.2% (soon to be 0.9% ) This is a great step forward towards the integration of the "core" SADAC community. Now if only we could get Angola, Namibia, Mozam and Tanz to get involved in Operation Biro |

Henry240: Henry240: Production capacity. You will probably find that local builders are at maximum production and that the need for vessels now outweighs the benefit of local investment. |

patches689: That's not even an issue. Local vendors had already supplied over or close to 200 units. 9 Interceptors from an entirely different defence contractor would not affect production capacity. Especially with the numbers the Navy/NIMASA/JTF have in active service. |
