Residents in Osogbo, the Osun State capital woke up to traffic gridlock and lull in commercial activities as members of the Nigerian Labour Congress and civil society groups under the Joint Action Front (JAF) took to the streets.

Chanting solidarity songs, they protested the increase in the price of petrol in compliance with the directive of the NLC.

‎The protesters who mounted a roadblock at the Olaiya roundabout which is the major entry route into the town, also sat on the floor making it impossible for motorists to drive in and out of the state capital.

Back at the state secretariat in Abeere, some labour leaders were on standby preventing workers from gaining entrance into the premises.

Banks ‎and other government parastatals were shut, students of public schools were sent back home, while shops and market places in the town were half open for business activities.

While speaking with journalists during the protest, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Jacob Adekomi and other labour leaders said that the strike would go on as long as the government refuses to yield to their demands.

Osun should protest, Aregbesola has only pay 50% of salary from July 2015 - February 2016 i.e he is owing 6 months salary. Then FG increased fuel, what do they expect people to be eating.

Re: NLC And JAF Protest In Osun, Banks And Public Schools Closed by sparrowkid: 1:28pm On May 18, 2016
Every one has a reason or another to protest. The Osun workers especially those who have been receiving half salaries would jump at this opportunity to protest. The students of Osun schools who are at loggerheads with the governor would also have the opportunity to get back at the governor. The Iya alatas and elepos of Osun state would also register their grievances as lack of payment of salaries has impacted their businesses.

So when you see people protest, not necessarily because they love what NLC is doing, but because they have one beef or the other with their governor or the government of the day.
