there are many law enforcement agencies between abeokuta and igboora expressway, all they do is to point a gun at the drivers at each checkpoints and ask them to stop their car/bus for an extortion/egunje of #50 , there are many likes as the army,police,border patrol,mopol and civil defence, at each checkpoints all holding a gun ready to deal with the driver that refuse to pay them. bunch of criminals in uniform

it seems armed robbers are the only ones helping to shapen these bunch of disguised robbers.

u wee just take guns and be giving everybody without proper training...

law enforcement officers brutality. that's what nlc and Nigerians should be marching against and not irrelevant issues. I pray the officer is arrested and dealt with appropriately.

I wrote d presidency several tyms on d issue of giving fire arms to d civil defence. Mist of dem re nothing bit a tout,criminals. I suggest dey recall d whole arms giving to dem before d end of d year.

I quite agree with you that most truck drivers are guilty of evading law enforcement agents however,that's not enough reason for any officer of the law to shoot.

Abeg am asking the same question. We can't just continue with this lawlessness. He ought to be in the Niger delta guarding oil pipeline, he is busy extorting #50 on the highway. It's time our representatives in NASS take this matter very serious.

Had a personal encounter with one civil defence corporal we where standing close to a politician the next thing he expended his ammunition and I asked him the reason for that, his lame excuse was that he wants people to know he can fire and he doesn't carry the gun for fancy. Overzealousness at its peak.

the point is what concerns civil defence with checking vehicles on the highway in the first instance? those guys must be rogue officers and must be brought to book.

You are right but opening fire is not the answer to that either.. What happen to chasing the driver? Radioing the other officers along the route to stop the truck?. There is no justification for taking a life except such life pose a threat to other life..

Just shut it. That a vehicle speeds past the police, does it give them any right to open fire. Most check points are equiped with a patrol car with which to give chase and if they cannot they can call the nearest checkpoint to them to make the intercept. The rules of engagement for most officers under arms in non combat scenarios is simple. You only attempt to use deadly force when your life or the lives of innocent civilians is threatened, not when a felon has his back turned in flight.
