Chuksemi:They should be banned for killing pythons and any other snake that is not a direct threat. |

Chuksemi:That's the world we live in bro... West is seen as the standard for things... Effects of post neo colonialism.... I would have said why are you wearing western clothes or technologies, but that would be me being petty.... Even in science the dominate Africans are good love making, corruption, dictatorship, brutality and rituals..... That's the sad glaring truth |

Mcowubaba:I am not against picking stuffs from white people. I am against picking everything. Atleast before something should be accepted. It should be weighed. A lion won't spare me if he sees me. But I am supposed to see him, leave him and call animal service because I love him? We are definitely pronounced in most of the things you said, but the problem comes from an attempt to be like the whites. Remember, corruption and maimings became a norm when we discarded most of our cultures and beliefs, for the whiteman's free for all behaviour. |

I am just so gutted at this level of ignorance and kill-eat behavior! That was an endangered animal for nature's sake! There have been several disturbing posts in this forum of snakes, porcupines, wild cats, rats, rhinos killed just for hunger sake! Do people have to do this? Some posters even ignorantly called it a walrus! with the rate Nigerians are eating everything, your coming generation may never meet Manatee as a word in dictionary! Boa? half is almost gone! monkeys? what is a monkey?! But you can't argue with ignorance, you will appear more foolish. This is bordering on so many levels! soon people will kill and post human flesh while our glorious Ignoramuses will keep posting " soup has landed " "pass it down with chepe" ![]() |

Chuksemi:You just said the same thing I said in your first paragraph, do we have a functional animal service in Nigeria .. So if I see a Lion in my Environment which is definitely a risk factor to human beings , what should I do? Shouldn't we organize ourselves and kill it ![]() What's even the emergency phone no of Animal rights or protection services in Nigeria.... Even if we decide to tranquilize the endangered specie, how many people even know that there is something like tranquilizers, and how many people know how to use it, do all of us have knowledge in Animal husbandry, science and technology ![]() On your second paragraph, we don't actually want to be like whites, we just want to be better in the way we do our things. African leaders have personalized corruption and stupidity... If you have been to a developed country, you will know that Nigeria is almost cursed ... I'm a full Nigerian, I am even currently living in Nigeria, so don't go the way of I'm whitewashed... This country no follow QED!!!!! This ain't about PDP or APC, Zombie or Wailer, Biafra...... This is just that fact.... |

BoboYekini:A snake shouldn't be killed because it isn't a direct threat? That's your reason? Ok. Keep watching keeping up with the kadashians. Maybe you will learn to stop shaping your clothes because it isn't a direct threat. |

Nairaland will never be reddit, first of all the audience on each forum are greatly different from each other. In reddit you find people that have 24/7 electricity, running water, good roads, moderate levels of security and law and order, they have educational system, better employment opportunities and chances to make it in life, in short am tired of typing all the things they have. How can you compare the content on their forum to that of Africans whose lives are far harder and who majority of them struggle to get three square meals everyday? Get your head out of the clouds abeg. Saving wildlife is not our priority for now. Until we get rid of the grinding poverty plaguing many Africans it will never be our priority. How do you expect a hungry person to understand why an animal should be set free when he can take it to his kitchen and satisfy his hunger? |

These are the kind of people that worship everything white men do. You'd castigate everything your fellow black man does just to feel accepted by a westerner. Come abroad and see the way they man handle blacks and you'd be happy militants kidnap them down here. Have you asked yourself why blacks are called immigrants if they visit the West and the whites are called expatriates here in Africa our fatherland. Stop this ass-licking of whites and be proud of your heritage. Go to asia and see the way they cover their noses when they are in an enclosed place with an african. |

Ok, the issues here are: Are manatees commonly eaten in parts of Nigeria? Are they found in parts of Nigeria? If the answer to number one is yes, then eod. If no, where/why was this captured and why was it shown on nairaland specifically? |
| Re: SEUN, If You Ignore This - Then You Have Personal Issues by itstpia8: 2:24pm On May 20, 2016 |
Here is a blog about a baby manatee that was captured last year: http://insearchofmamiwata..com/2015/10/manatee-calf-rescued-in-nigeria.html |

Good points. But you should add bodies of dismembered and dead HUMAN BEINGS. It's worse. |

You made salient points. But you also made some unnecessary comments. In any case, putting this on Nairaland has actually raised some kind of awareness already. This debate is an example. And hopefully, many people will now learn from this. My point is, the Manatee was already killed anyway whether it gets displayed here or not. But by the awareness and debate already generated, some Nigerians will learn something. |

fellis:Don't you just love the sound of your own voice? That something is not top of the list of priorities doesn't mean that it cannot be enforced alongside. As a matter of fact, I dare imagine that one reason there's grinding poverty is because we give in to our savage impulses too easily. And it's not simply about hunger. Will you die of hunger if you don't butcher and eat that manatee? |

Your Opinion don't count here. This is nairaland. This is Nigeria. This is Africa. Nothing bothers them... They live in the moment. They are zombies............... |

I don't care what kind of animal it is endangered, nearly extinct or not I don't care. As long as its not a goat, cow, dog, chicken or any other domestic animal, I SEE IT, I KILL IT they are dangerous to me. That's how one useless comes to our farm to kill our bird even full grown turkeys, the day I catch am chai! E enter pot. That was its last day bt it had already bitten 3 turkeys over 20k loss. Make I no come kill snake? Even if ordinary cat near my farm na die e go die. |
| Re: SEUN, If You Ignore This - Then You Have Personal Issues by Nobody: 7:48pm On May 20, 2016 |
BoboYekini:Abeg all this is long grammar. Fine, one major reason why many Africans are poor is because of the savage impulse thing but when you get down to the main issue we are talking about ie preserving wildlife, it won't work until you eliminate poverty. Do you know how expensive meat is in the market to many Nigerians? A person who hasn't eaten meat in the past one month can never logically deduce the ecological and ethical reasons why he should spare the manatee and continue depriving himself of meat. |

| Re: SEUN, If You Ignore This - Then You Have Personal Issues by Nobody: 9:33pm On May 20, 2016 |
Ephyartz:Number one reason, don't mess with the food chain or the result will be disastrous. Here's an example. Snakes eat wild rats. Wild rats who often carry disease. If, people like you were to kill these snakes off, rats would become abundant . . . and they would bring a vast amount of disease with them. Another reason is simple civilization. You don't just eat everything in reach. Then there would be no difference between you and savage animals. |
| Re: SEUN, If You Ignore This - Then You Have Personal Issues by Ephyartz: 9:53pm On May 20, 2016 |
Teempakguy:Lol! I'm supposed to be on top of the food chain na, I can't possibly kill all the snakes na. Lions kills and eats antelopes every time and there are still lots of them out there. If any animal or snake posses as a threat to d well being of my birds, I don't think I've done wrong in killing them too. |
