What My Friend's Landlord Did. You Won't Believe. by Nobody: 9:32pm On May 23, 2016
This story sounds somehow funny and at the same time, very provocative. One of my friends live in a self-contain rented apartment. The compound is a big one though. The Landlord who is married with kids and about 40yrs runs a drinking joint outside the compound. So Thursday last week was his birthday and he willingly organized for celebration where he cooked food and drinks were drink as you like. It was a fun-filled birthday party sha...so he told me. To their surprise, they all served with notice of increment of house rent this morning. According to the notice which i've personally seen myself, the rent they were paying N120k/annum was suddenly increased to N150k. Is this alright at all? The entire scenario depicts that of the proverbial say of "give with one hand and collect back with the other". I have told him to park out since he can still get same apartment elsewhere with cheaper rate.

Such is life bruv. I wish some people will just stop taking the risk of living with their landlord. Most landlords/landladies are unbearable.

How are you sure the rent increment is related to the birthday celebration?

Why did the increment come so suddenly then?

You don't believe in coincidences? Have you not notice how the economy is declining?
My landlord also increased my rent recently from 240,000 to 300,000 and there was no birthday party
I just assumed it was because or how bad things where.

Of course they are related. Ever heard the expression, fattening up for the kill?

He didn't increase the rent because of the party. He organised the party and invited the tenants to 'chop and quench' in preparation for the rent increase.... Pretty much the same way you feed a goat before slaughtering him.

so what is the issue here.... he shouldnt have a party before raising the rent? he shouldnt offer free food and drinks before raising the rent?
the important question is: would it change the outcome if there was NO party?!
