Good move. There is also need to make laws limiting cost of campaigns and purchasing of forms to create more opportunity for more people to participate comfortably in elections. The law should state an amount forms should be sold and an amount of money one must not exceed as campaign expenses. My thought stems from the fact that much of the reasons there is corruption in political offices is because people spend out themselves and even borrow to fund campaigns, and when they win they use the first two years to replace their expenses and repay loans and the remaining two years will be used in saving for second term. In the end, the person can not do anything for those that elected him. Again, it is the high cost of campaign that lead people to making campaigns a do or die affair, when you spend all your money contesting and remembers you have borrowed money and you see yourself loosing the election, of course, many would go as far as conceiving murdering their opponent. It is also the root cause of godfatherism. When you have spent all you have, and it takes you nowhere in your campaign, one rich capitalist will come and invest by sponsoring you, and when you win, he would reap his investment 20 times and in the end, the electorates get nothing for their votes. It is one thing reduce eligibility by age and another thing to limit expenses during elections. |

Gerrard59:Leadership does not really require extensive education. Good leadership itself is a very distinct trait without which very well educated people may still fail to lead adequately. All these restrictions are not necessary because at the end of the day if the people want an illiterate child to rule them then it means there is something special about that child. |

IMHO this bill favours the elite and not the common man. Lower age means children of the powerful men will have easier access to leadership positions since they are the ones with the financial prowess and connections to seek whatever elective positions even at the age of 18. |

A Welcome Development. The next revolution in Nigeria will not be that of politicians, capitalists or the elites,it will be a youth revolution. |
