Saw this on facebook and decided to share. The name of the writer is DARIO THURSTON HREIÐARSSON and his facebook profile is https://www.facebook.com/dario.hreidarsson Enjoy ![]() >>I wrote this 6,000 word piece for a large national daily last week but I was told it was too “controversial” so I should either water it down or it would not get published. I did that annoying thing writers do and insisted on the sanctity of my editorial license. So it didn’t run. Anyway here it is, open and free for the benefit of the world. Hope this makes a tiny bit of difference to the life of someone somewhere. |

Dear countrymen and women, read the next few lines very carefully because this is what you do not know that has kept us running around in circles and repeating the same self-limiting behaviour for decades: |

Our leadership from President to local government councilor has no real intellectual investment in the success of Project Nigeria. They have no solid and realistic idea of what to do with the corporate organisation of Nigeria in order to achieve better results than we have seen for the past six decades. In the absence of the needed intellectual heavy lifting capacity, what we have is a whole lot of fluff, bluster and assorted nothings. |

These religions are not ours. They were imposed and forced on our ancestors often at gunpoint. The people who imposed them on us do not practice them the way we do. Certainly the average Algerian Muslim would look at his counterpart from Katsina and wonder why he cannot read and write. He would be shocked to find out that the society in Katsina finds it more important to give children Koranic education than the secular education that gives them a fighting chance at having a meaningful life.Source: https://www.facebook.com/notes/dario-thurston-hrei%C3%B0arsson/dear-nigerians-corruption-is-not-the-problem-and-it-never-has-been/10153772442917851 I agree ![]() |

nice writeup OP, i have always said it that Nigeria's problem isnt corruption but the inabilty to define who we are, we dont know who we are, we all are just wandering, praying and hoping one day we would get it right but i fear we would get there without first identifying our true self and not what os foisted on us. |

Nice article. The problem is just that as Religion has imbibed in our hearts a belief we'll cling on till death so have all the points you raised up there. Putting it bluntly, there is no solution to Nigeria's problem and when I say 'No' I mean no solution. Dear Op.. you raised very good points and backed it very well but let me promise you, this thread will never gain any traction because Nigerians hate the truth and would rather die in their ignorance. |

This is so true! The effort put into this piece is undeniable and I must appreciate the op. It's easy on the eyes particularly with respect to grammar and arrangement/structure. If there will be honesty and preparedness to grow, the truth will set us free indeed! A clear sign of our complete enslavement however, is the reaction of print media and members of the press. They deliberately refuse to publish this because it's too 'strong' not because it's false or untrue and so the writer is expected to 'water it down'! What's the point then? That date with the truth must be had! Corruption is a symptom of the deep rooted malaise or cause. Corruption thrives because the system is constructed to let it so be and the pipe through which our resources are sucked is so long, reaching way beyond the thieves we see parading themselves as leaders from the president to the local govt councillors and everything in between! Once the system can be overhauled with determination to see it work at all costs, those dark n foreboding 'interests' determined to keep siphoning our resources and stymie every effort at true revolutionary development will be weakened and eventually thrown off! |

RUBBISH!!! This is just a case of you creating an hocus-pocus to fuel your self-denial. Why did u think nothing is working? In ur words, inability to define who we are? That's funny because something must really be stopping us from defining who we are! Corruption has eaten into everything... Nothing will work even if u define urself! |

The best article I have read in Nigeria. And thats an understatement. Intelligent piece. I would love to meet the writer. I have learned a million things. Very insightful. If only we can understand our history it would help put context to why things are as rotten as they are in the country. Sadly, nothing would change probably until everybody loses complete interest in everything as it is, then maybe the real questions would begin to be asked. |

hahn:So the solution to problem 2(two) is to privatize everything with zero concern for social justice and equality? And who are those with the financial wherewithal to participate in the acquisitions? The same economic and political elites you describe as either intellectually challenged, lacking in ideas and vision, or bereft of historical knowledge, etc. Please, come back to educate us when you(writer) have clear workable solutions to our nation's quagmire. It's an otherwise beautiful piece no doubt. |
| Re: Dear Nigerians: “corruption” Is Not The Problem And It Never Has Been! by Kellzcold: 12:06pm On Jun 04, 2016 |
PapaBrowne:Exactly this. It's just sad that many will ignore this and write it off as rubbish. We need to understand our history to become better. We need to understand the mistakes we made in the past so that the future generations don't repeat them but instead make the system better. The tribe problem of our country can only be solved by breaking into regions. A lot of people are not in support of it because of lack of understanding but this will reduce the burden on the federal government drastically. If every region has their own inspector general of police, the police won't have to wait for so long to receive orders from above to stop market riots in lagos or stop herdsmen attacking communities in Ekiti or Enugu. If every region has their own minister of transport, a southwest transport minister can handle the fourth mainland bridge in lagos while the southeast minister of transport can handle the niger-delta bridge. The effect of division of labour which is done in successful private companies will come to effect in the government system, every part of Nigeria will experience development instead of just former capital Lagos and current capital Abuja. Even the national assembly members will be paid according to what their regional zone makes, no more excess allowance that we can't afford. This will almost eliminate the huge division which the former colonial leaders did to us because there won't be so much corruption to get my Hausa brother into work because I don’t like a southerner. This will also reduce the power of the president so that when someone wins president, he won't have enough influence to move the whole power to his tribe, because the regions control their own matters. The issue of lack of ideas starts from how we even vote these people into power. No debate to find out which contestants have better solutions to our problems, we just vote because it is the turn of another tribe to be in power. So sad really.... Religious activities also contributed to division among Nigerians, but it is okay except the very violent ones who will behead someone because they insulted your prophet. I just hope things get better, we're so far behind our potential, it's unbelievable. |

I'm not really impressed. I stopped halfway because the writer goofed in so many areas. The article is full of sentiments and it is purely subjective. |

Could not stop reading until the end. It's a wonderful peace. The kind of history people dig in this country is the type that further divides us. The one that binds us together is termed wrong, that has kept me away from history of this country in other to live my normal life, not influenced by sentimental history. I guess if we further dig dip, we can rediscover our love for one another. God bless the writer, God bless Nigeria. This should be at the front page |

This is one of the most (probably the most) realistic articles i've read about this geographical region called Nigeria. I remember sometime in 2015 (before the presidential polls), I wrote a short article titled "NO CREDIBLE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FOR 2015 ELECTIONS" and people started calling me a "one sided analyst". I remember saying that it's time the youths stand up to reject/boycott elections until a credible candidate is presented to us as a nation. The truth is that the system is a failed one, and we need to act fast to correct this system or we'll all keep crying of corruption till the day the inevitable will happen. |
