The FG can not use the excuse of Unemployment to blackmail Private Employers, moreso, when they themselves are retrenching workers. Or haven't you heard that the FG sacked morethan 3000 Nigerians this yr alone?

not necessarily, people with sensitive info can hurt you any time, that's why you chose wisely and after background checks, it has to be those who can't burn the bridge. For whatever reason, management needs to follow the rules by given general on need to lay off then execute accordingly just just insensitively. After all we are are all coworkers, some are just managers, while some are not.

Password management is not contained in the employment letter. Background check my foot, in a volatile environment with no citizens record. We are talking of a banking institution here and not a construction coy. Money matters is a delicate one.

There's legal procedure in handling dispute in every dispute, which can be harness to seek redress.

Contract staffing system is not illegal or strange. Unfortunately, the executives of the banks have successfully cowered its workers to working without belonging into any union. In fact any form of union is not even allowed in the banking sector, which is a pure violation of a worker's right. The old generation banks, had unions then, forgotten the name they call it, UNI...cant remember. Offcourse, they have also been silenced. Now they have the NLC to negotiate and discuss with, how many of them do that before ur password refuse to log on again. I remember FCMB wrote a letter to my friend then, asking for 2 million because he didn't use the specified number of years before resigning, unfortunately for them, thr guy's father is a Lawyer. He simply wrote them back that, they breached the contract first by slashing his salary after which no new contract was signed. So therefore, the contract at which he was to return 2million to the bank if he resigns before the specific years is void already. That was the last time he heard from them. Free your self from slavery mentality. Imagine a bank sacks u at will, but want u to pay for resigning.

20. (1) In the event of redundancy-

(a) the employer shall inform the trade union or workers' representative concerned of the reasons for and the extent of the anticipated redundancy;

(b) the principle of "last in, first out" shall be adopted in the discharge of the particular category of workers affected, subject to all factors of relative merit, including skill, ability and reliability; and

(c) the employer shall use his best endeavours to negotiate redundancy payments to any discharged workers who are not protected by regulations made under subsection (2) of this section.

(2) The Minister may make regulations providing, generally or in particular cases, for the compulsory payment of redundancy allowances on the termination of a worker's employment because of his redundancy.

(3) In this section "redundancy" means an involuntary and permanent loss of employment caused by an excess of manpower.

(6) No contract shall-

(a) make it a condition of employment that a worker shall or shall not join a trade union or shall or shall not relinquish membership of a trade union; or

(b) cause the dismissal of, or otherwise prejudice, a worker-
(i) by reason of trade union membership, or
(ii) because of trade union activities outside working hours or, with the consent of the employer, within working hours, or
(iii) by reason of the fact that he has lost or been deprived of membership of a trade union or has refused or been unable to become, or for any other reason is not, a member of a trade union.
