Really??

Thought we use to export rubber, cocoa, textile and even palm oil and what have you... When agriculture was our main source of income and revenue generation before the birth of the evil child called crude oil..

It is not an evil child but the Nigerian politicians are the ones making it to be evil, rather it is a blessing we are not harnessing properly.

Like Awolowo said, Nigeria is a mere geographical entity! That is why you can't really compare Nigeria to those countries

Egyptians are to a great extent one people

We don't have that! The number of tribes in Kogi state itself is wahala

Moreso, I said we are democratically too young! Our democracy is still 16years

The major opposition party as at now has no National Party Chairman!

That was and is my point - we seem a bit democratically young!we are still having cases of 5 lawmakers impeaching a speaker over-ruling other 15 lawmakers!
Sorry to say but your submissions seems to be skewed and tad naive.

So Nigeria being a mere geographical entity according to your Awolowo negates nationhood? If I may ask which country is not a geographical entity?
Even if we are to follow your supposed Awolowo premise of mere geographical entity, Didn't that just suggest we go our separate ways since we don't have what it takes to sustain nationhood?

The Center for Global Development 2006 Working Paper suggest that Age in a democracy doesn't matter provided the younger democracies enact proactive fiscal structures, economic and policy directions that have widespread impact and approval or it stand a risk of democratic reversal.

We are ripe enough to restructure the country to fiscal federalism or we will just succeed in delaying the inevitable and patching through the same way we have been doing since 1966.

Truth be told, a substantial part of the country feel cheated and agitated with the status quo.

IGP (Tafa Balogun) is an employee of the FG.... He was not prosecuted while in office ... He first sacked by obasanjo (no more immunity) before he was arrested and charged to court and convicted... Same with Ibori... Ibori was inly arrested and jailed when he left office.

Immunity clause says you cannot prosecute a serving political Official .. serving... And before court can convict him, he has to leave office first.

Now tell mw who cannot read btw me and you?

The other People you mentioned ... Farouk... Saraki... Even tinubu was charged to the CCT ... Was any of them ever convicted or jailed?

Interesting, I see a lot of uninformed folks shouting True federalism lately. First and foremost, there is nothing like True Federalism in the real sense of it, you either have federalism or another system of government. Now,what i believe most people meant to say is Ideal federalism, though its noteworthy to asserts that federalism as systems takes into consideration the peculiarity of the people.

What I think people should clamor for is greater autonomy of the LG and States. Even if you consider the American, the Center is still more powerful than any other entity and that's an Ideal Federalism, but when the states and Lg's have more autonomy mostly over domestic security and resources they can formulate policies within the federal structure and pursue their individual growth and development without waiting for the central government.

However, I personally doubt if the so called Ideal federalism can work in Nigeria, only a few states will survive; nepotism, favoritism and patronage will ruin many states. For example south south governors will allocate oil wells to the friends and family who will not even bother to pay taxes to the government purse but pay money to the governors account. Tell me how will the states survive? Food for thought! I see only a few states like Lagos, Anambra, Edo e.t.c; because relatively this states are more less of an egalitarian societies wherein anyone can strive to make it to the top and achieve some level of success even if you are not born of a silver spoon or belong to the political/elite class.
Lionshare, you are not God. You started your piece brilliantly then made a dogs breath out of your conclussions. You have to be open minded you know?

3. States control their resources, Nig govt feels this would leave many states in the north impoverished.

5. States finally have right to leave or stay as one entity in Nig. A light to achieving Biafra/ND republic, Oduduwa republic etc. Nig govt does not want that to happen..

These are disadvantages..
Its for us to check if they weigh up to, or outweight the advantages.
Why are the northerners so afraid of the southerners leaving them, is it that they fully depend on the later or they are parasite, and if I may ask again, are the northerners Nigerian govt.

Why then are u saying states should waste money building industries and infrastructure they cannot optimally manage?
b]
Estates industrial estates
Only govt can afford infrastructure (power mainly)
Just cuz gas turbine and 2jdap bush and beg industries to come. No need for any licence from federal govt.

Viability matters hence the need for true federalism as being clamoured for currently. Worst case we secede

Instead of getting irritated, you should have realized that I simply stated one of the biggest advantages and disadvantages that may result from a true federalism.

I am not a proponent of Biafra but a true federalism, confederacy or regionalism will result in Biafra, either good or bad. A loose Centre, with so many embittered people from SS & SE, will definitely lead to trouble.

What most of you guys don't understand is that true federalism gives each federating component a certain right to leave the federation, if it so desires. It is even worse with confederacy.

Next time think before you bark. A short answer may make more sense than a thesis.

Why are we so scared of anyone leaving? Any part of the nation that wants to leave is free. Nobody or region is indispensable.

Only oil is in exclusive legislative list?

However Nigeria is not Malaysia, clearly we do not have parliamentary democracy with a federal constitutional monarchy as d case in Malaysia

Here its practically impossible for one man to hold such powers

Planting cash crops is not the only route to develop Singapore did it without planting much crops

Yes Dangota used NEPA and generators before he finally switched to generating his own power ( all ds have a huge cost implication)

I agree with you on point state govt are not imaginative or creative enough

Like I said u are d intellectual handicapped one here, u shamelessly throw Fashola's name around, if u must know he an advocate of True federalism

His efforts were continually sabotaged by d over bearing FG he partially succeed cos he has a large economy to leverage/ bargain with, unlike most other state

Good points you mentioned. I believe the advantages will really move Nigeria forward but people are scared of the disadvantages. Can we just practise a Nigerian form of true federalism where we have all the advantages and remove some of the disadvantages. In my opinion, the first disadvantage you mentioned there should not be part of our version of true federalism considering the diversity that we have. And I dont think Northern states will be very impoverished as we might like to believe. My reason for saying this is that I heard that when oil was discovered, the late Ahmadu Bello was excited because he believed that the discovery would distract the South from developing agriculture and therefore make the North an agricultural power house. I dont know how true the story is. On seccession, I read a wiki article that says during the motion for independence, AG sought to include a seccession clause in independence constitution as measure to prevent Lagos losing its cultural identity as the capital of Nigeria, but were hampered by the efforts of NCNC and NPC. I wonder how true that is.

Bro NORTH and SOUTH Korea wasn't well managed always Google your thoughts b4 posting them.

Some people will use that point of urs to argue blindly in some quarters.

NORTH N SOUTH KOREA war (basically a proxy war btw U.S n Russia during the cold war) caused the war and eventual seperation of the two countries (not due to ethnicity or religion) but due to ideology. The soviets n Chinese occupied the north n u.s occupied the south.

THOSE who were trapped in the south n north. Became the citizens..NOBODY WAS ALLOWED TO CROSS BORDERS!
Till today 'reunification is one of the main campaign topics during elections (in the south). As for the north any one who tries to escape is SHOT!

Sk or Nk are technically "still @ war" and tomorrow if an animal (chicken or lion) is seen crossing the DMZ IT WILL BE SHOT! That's how serious the situation is!
