Nnpc' s. reasoning....lower price attracts more customers, increasing profits, and eventually forcing down prices.

Simple economics

That's wuruwuru economics. Why not make the market favourable to all?

Turning NNPC to father Christmas would only lead to crowd, and more money to NNPC. It won't force down prices. NNPC mega stations have always sold fuel at lower prices since I was born.

If you have followed the trend, you will recall that NNPC has about 60% share, private marketers 40% share.

Since the increase in price, a report came out a few days back that PMS sales have dropped by 40%. Seems the smuggling to neigbouring countries is no more profitable. Remove this 40% that i believe was also inflated because of subsidy payment. You will see that NNPC can handle genuine domestic demand.

As they have access to forex...even at 86...they still make a profit. So telling the mega stations that get directly from NNPC to sell at lower cost of 130 to drive the price down is not asking for too much. This is so the masses can get sone respite.

On the other hand, if the stations refuse to budge..NNPC should also increase their depot price to match the independent marketers. So that whatever profit goes to the govt and not the greedy few.

No it isn't

If the big companies see the local Nnpc mega station doing better business than them, they would drop prices to eat into nnpc share of market and nnpc in turn would cut prices.

That is competition.

(Right now, my local Nnpc mega station has longer queues than the marketers.Because people love lower prices.)

You did not read the article.

This is all about Nnpc franchise station owners complaining about a key strategy of kalichukwu to bring down pump prices by selling lower than the big marketers.......on the grounds that it prevents them from making a profit.

Nothing to do with govt economic policy.

Unlike private filling stations established with the sole aim of making profit, NNPC Mega Stations are mearnt to provide essential services to the people.

These set of marketers get their supplies from NNPC, so to some extent NNPC can dictate the sales price.

I think the Directive should remain.
So that the competition should be high there by reducing the cost of pms .
Just as it is with Diesel.

Please the govt should leave them alone ..any clear thinking person will know that any attempt to force some marketers to sell lower than some will lead to automatic scarcity as fuel will automatically start finding it's way from cheaper stations to more expensive station and nearby countries in the night ..Kachikwu made the initial mistake by announcing 145 so now he has to live with it

What the hell are u saying?? Or do u just derive pleasure in blabbing
The directive was given to NNPC filling stations only i.e only stations which are under the control of govt. Nobody reduced mobil or total's price.

The real issue the marketers are complaining is because people prefer to enter nnpc queue and buy for 140 than drive through other filling station and buy at 145. But the question is: is that what deregulation is all about. Everybody sells at a price that most convenient to u. its an open market, if u cant cope then close shop!

this is what we need "price war"
before long we will appreciate what is happening now
let them stop selling
those that want to be in business will embrace given price and be in business. greedy marketers
they don't ever want price of things to go down

Our problems are self inflicted cos of greed, even an independent marketer near where i live sells at 143 so what's the problem with these nnpc mega stations.

May thunder fire these guys eeven at140 they are making huge profit yet they prefer fuel scarcity so they can sell at 200 and above.

May God punish them and their families for their greed.
nonsense. Those 143 naira have a pump that will give you half of a litre

You left Azman filling station amongst the reliable petrol stations.

Guyman02:
They want us to do panic buying at N145, e no go work this time as people dont even have the money to panic buy. Ndi ara! grin

This marketers should be more concerned about under dispencing by their members.

In Abuja the 3 most reliable petrol stations:
1. NNPC mega stations at Central Area and Kubwa expressway.
2. Yaman filling Station at Area 3 Garki
3. Conoil opposite NNPC headquarters

Baddest under dispensing stations in Abuja
1. Conoil at Area 1 Garki
2. Iluobe 'fake' NNPC mega station at Wuse market
3. Forte Oil at Maitama adjacent NUC and opposite Hilton Hotel
4. All Total filling stations
5. All Mobil filling Stations
If in doubt ask any taxi driver

Why is it that Nigerian capitalists don't like competative markets? They have been so used to excess profits. Any marketer should be free to sell at their own price but it should not be more than N145 is the directive of federal government. NNPC is government owned, so if they sell lower than N145, it's still part of sacrifices that are meant to be paid to the masses by government.

Interesting post. Yours is different from what he said. Your post has nothing to do with the topic.
Observe the quote from the topic below:

BeeBeeOoh:

Kenneth Nwachukwu, the association’s national Secretary, said: “We are kicking against a directive by the Minister of State for Petroleum that we sell fuel for less than N145 per litre. We are all marketers and we get
supplies at the same source and at the same price. Why should we be made to sell at N130, N135 and N140 per litre while others sell for N145 per litre? With this pronouncement by the Minister, we foresee a looming fuel
scarcity because we may have to shut operations nationwide. ”
“We also see fuel scarcity because some unscrupulous marketers would rather get their supplies and sell in the black market at N145 than take the fuel to their stations and this will cause another crisis in the retail chain.”
“We have never seen this kind of policy. In fact it will increase corruption which government is fighting tooth and nail to stop. ”
“Some people are already bribing their way at the depots and officials there are selling to them at a price lower than the official one. These people can afford to sell at a price lower than N145. But we buy at official price and as such cannot be forced sell lower than N145,” he added.

As regards the topic, from this quote:

if true, depot officials' bank accounts are laughing.
There should be proper auditing of finances by an Independent Auditing company.

I am surprised about this alarm too. The Minister (speaking as the Managing Director of nnpc) was specific about why he ordered the NNPC mega stations that are inside the cities to sell at N143 while those located in rural areas should sell at lower price. He said that he noticed long queues in the city stations when they were selling at N135 because people were ready to save N10 per litre.
