Nigerians might experiment fuel scarcity again as the owners of Mega Petrol Filling Stations have threatened to shut down operations following an alleged imposition of a lower pump price on them by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) .

This was revealed at a briefing held by the Mega Filling Station Owners of Nigeria (AMFSON) in Kaduna.

The association claimed that Ibe Kachikwu, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of NNPC, had directed that all mega filling stations sell fuel at varying rates of N130.00, N135.00, N140.00 per litre, while their competitors sell
at N145 per litre.

Kenneth Nwachukwu, the association’s national Secretary, said: “We are kicking against a directive by the Minister of State for Petroleum that we sell fuel for less than N145 per litre. We are all marketers and we get
supplies at the same source and at the same price. Why should we be made to sell at N130, N135 and N140 per litre while others sell for N145 per litre? With this pronouncement by the Minister, we foresee a looming fuel
scarcity because we may have to shut operations nationwide. ”

“We also see fuel scarcity because some unscrupulous marketers would rather get their supplies and sell in the black market at N145 than take the fuel to their stations and this will cause another crisis in the retail chain.”

“We have never seen this kind of policy. In fact it will increase corruption which government is fighting tooth and nail to stop. ”

“Some people are already bribing their way at the depots and officials there are selling to them at a price lower than the official one. These people can afford to sell at a price lower than N145. But we buy at official price and as such cannot be forced sell lower than N145,” he added.

Why is it that Nigerian capitalists don't like competative markets? They have been so used to excess profits. Any marketer should be free to sell at their own price but it should not be more than N145 is the directive of federal government. NNPC is government owned, so if they sell lower than N145, it's still part of sacrifices that are meant to be paid to the masses by government.

Please the govt should leave them alone ..any clear thinking person will know that any attempt to force some marketers to sell lower than some will lead to automatic scarcity as fuel will automatically start finding it's way from cheaper stations to more expensive station and nearby countries in the night ..Kachikwu made the initial mistake by announcing 145 so now he has to live with it

Our problems are self inflicted cos of greed, even an independent marketer near where i live sells at 143 so what's the problem with these nnpc mega stations.

May thunder fire these guys eeven at140 they are making huge profit yet they prefer fuel scarcity so they can sell at 200 and above.

May God punish them and their families for their greed.

'Unthinking government'

How can you force mega filling stations to sell at N130?

Wouldn't that cause hoarding and diversion to black marketers who would rather sell at N145?
Thereby making excess profit of N15 on each litre sold?

I've never seen any policy as dum.b as this in my entire life.

Where is Mike Adenuga sef? He needs to repeat what he did to MTN back then when a SIM was sold @ #25k.

I know competition ll surely force down the PMS pump price, it's just a matter of time.

If these people could apply a bit of initiative, they would drop a bit of margin and make up for it in volumes.

Not again, when the minister announced the increment and peaked it at 145 Naira per liter, he did not know then to include the clause for Mega filling station not to sell at the same price. Abeg Kachukwu should go and seat down and let peace and sanity rain in the sector!!! angry shocked

Government should quit fixing pump price and leave market forces to work the price out. We will continue to run round in circles if government still maintains its smothering hold on the oil industry. Fuel queues are an eyesore in an oil producing nation like ours...it is time to make it a forgotten sight.

Prices of fuel are going up because we have to import most of our fuel needs, until we can build new refineries.

Berra blame PDP for not building the 3 Greenfield refinery promised in 2010 then.

They want us to do panic buying at N145, e no go work this time as people dont even have the money to panic buy. Ndi ara! grin

This marketers should be more concerned about under dispencing by their members.

In Abuja the 3 most reliable petrol stations:
1. NNPC mega stations at Central Area and Kubwa expressway.
2. Yaman filling Station at Area 3 Garki
3. Conoil opposite NNPC headquarters

Baddest under dispensing stations in Abuja
1. Conoil at Area 1 Garki
2. Iluobe 'fake' NNPC mega station at Wuse market
3. Forte Oil at Maitama adjacent NUC and opposite Hilton Hotel
4. All Total filling stations
5. All Mobil filling Stations
If in doubt ask any taxi driver

Nnpc' s. reasoning....lower price attracts more customers, increasing profits, and eventually forcing down prices.

Simple economics
