We always consider the occupants first. Remember, you're not likely to live inside the building. Assume the tenants position and respect all their wishes.

It's a mathematical certainty to be produced by me. I have samples used in different applications but it can be modified/ adapted for this purpose.
I assume the major attraction would be overall reduced cost in addition to functionality and the major savings can be achieved in the area of packaging.
The use of laminated sack for the paste in place of plastic container.
I will be willing to give my oga Hajji mufutau some drums in 20 litres for use in security post or other such area for trial.

Also, consider that some of us actually want to do away with rendering in it's totality.

1. Send-down-the-rain roof design
2. Tiles in all rooms (especially floor-to-ceiling in bathrooms)
3. Water heater in each bathroom

As per your request @ write2obi

Send-down-the-rain: As far as in me lies, there's no single moral justification for high pitched (pyramid) roofs unless you're doing such on smaller footprint. Even at that, this is not recommended for larger buildings and buildings with complex shapes and not in areas highly susceptible to high wind or hurricane.

Extra cost for little or no value. I guess I'm looking at things from "function over form" POV. If this is in far away Canada where it is snowy, I'll be quick to say yes this is pretty cool roof type to choose cause it easily shed off accumulation of snow and extra weights on the building.

But like we all agree, one man's meat is another man's poison. So long it fits the owners taste and budget, it's a welcome development.

I'll rather choose that figure to get a room in the attic and make the pyramid roof useful at least.
A pic of a bathroom in the attic was posted some few weeks back. The roof is also send down the rain and he had a room, a library and a bathroom inside the roof on the 2nd floor.

Floor-to-ceiling tiles: Why? Tiles do not stop water so don't be sold into using tiles from floor-to-ceiling in other to prevent moisture or how do I put this?
There are moisture resistant paints that does that and you're never stucked with one permanent look for life. Trends and styles will change over time, it's more easier to paint over bare walls than to remove and replace rustic tiles.

Now let's ask ourself a simple question "Why pay more for a design element that gets you stucked with a permanent view at an extra cost to you?" Mostly, the answer is because that what most people do in their houses.

Too much over tiles in houses makes them look like an overly design build to me. Keep it simple. Apart from the areas where your water line actually passed through and to prevent splash. Tiles shouldn't be used to replace other materials in the house.

Water Heater in Naija: Another form over function. I'm for functionality anyday. Instant water heater and central heating system will reduce the extra cost drastically. Come to think of it, we only need this during the rainy seasons. Had it been that we use it to prepare Eba and other edibles, I could still manage to reason it out.

Worse still, you'll see some Big Boys put one in the visitors toilet. Sheer waste of hard earned fund.
90.9% of water heaters in Nigeria are hardly used.

I need a single run of approximately 50 feet of rain gutters with a single downspout to be installed in Elebu, Ibadan.

Thanks.

I did some thinking lately and I am of the opinion that in the future all residences in Nigeria would have to use prepaid meters which means more electricity bills according to what most people I know that use prepaid meters say.i have never used prepaid so I cant justify their assertions. Talking about diversification and trying to reduce electricity bills , i think solar heaters, solar bore hole systems and solar air conditioner systems should be embraced and explored in Nigeria by builders. Anybody with expertise in this field should educate on the pros and cons of these equipments especially the solar heating and air conditioning systems. Already I have made contacts with some Chinese firms and i'm working on its feasibility.

Not an expert but a doer. I believe by the end of 2016, I should be able to have a complete off-grid solution installed in my small crib.

The first step is the water system. Getting off grid with Shurflo Solar Pump and Protek Water Heater.

Shurflo Pump already installed.

As per the air conditioning, I'm positioned in an environment where you'll hardly feel heat because of the wraparound terraces that shields away direct sun.

This is equally a very important but often overlooked design element. There's nothing as good as natural lighting and ventilation, though we always opt for the alternatives to compensate for design mistakes.

Mostly 1/2"
I hope the cost of this heater will be a something 70 pec home owner can afford
Also the cost of maintainance, availability of the part, etc bcs we looking at an alternative to how we can reduce exesive using of heater in every toilet

I'm at the store looking at PEX, glad I asked the question. 3/8 is way too small.

For those with water tanks on the roof, maybe get something like this made.

Glad to know somebody is thinking in the same direction. What actually inspired my thought on Solar water pump system is the fact that I once did a project and didnt do the borehole at the beginning meaning I had to purchase water from water tanker drivers and also get water from neighbors to build the building which cost money and sometimes the neighbors would refuse giving water to the workers because they havent pumped water or they have no water etc. clean water is a basic essential commodity so I have made up my mind to do a solar powered water pump system just outside my house running on complete solar for consumption of the public. I think that is the only way I can give back to my community. My personal opinion though.

The blocks used in nigeria doesn't have that smoothness.
It's very possible to achieve that feat though, but the wall would still need some sort of surface treatment for durability.

As of now yes, but the correct moulds can be made.

I'm just trying to give you free market research that there are at least two people on this thread that don't want rendering but just bare block wall.

Good luck on your project.

Yes Sir, similar to what His Eminence Rototech is using on your Hacienda of immense proportions.

The same PEX pipe will handle both hot and cold. I'm doing a home run system where each outlet gets it's own line straight from the manifold.

It's a water tray, one is plastic and the other is aluminum. Basically zero chance of water getting out of the container in case of a leak.

I like strolling through Home Depot in the evening after work. You get to meet plumbers, carpenters, etc that are stocking up for next days work and you can ask question on practical real world experience.

It's much appreciated sir. Like you rightly stated, it's part of feasibility research/ market survey.

Maybe we start exchanging collections soon. An architect on here took my Boutique/Shop design catalogue and never bother to return it back.

One of the reasons l am a fan of Electronic Copy of books!

What l will lend you is a downloadable "E-copy"...... and you can keep it! undecided undecided

And it also ensures that l can keep them for ages, without occupying any significant space

It all starts from the architectural design. A few years back I was comparing blocks needed with Brabus and the walls seperating two flats his had more than double mine. My question finding where we can save cost while still meeting our objective as always no compromise on safety and structural integrity.

Piecemeal generally will add to the cost of the build. Set a tentative completion date having in mind external omonile and other disturbances.

Find 1-3 critical workers consider PRP payable on completion. Are you in a habit of saying what you mean and doing what you say cos if they do not believe you will pay on completion then it means nothing.

I will complete tomorrow as off to bed now.

Thanks a lot Madam, for finding the time to reply, l appreciate it.
You've said a lot in a few paragraphs and l've gained from it.

I think you need a little more improvement on the gravitex and you have it.

That I'm sure of on outdoor walls. Although the major challenge will be getting artisans to do a very straight wall.

This is where the plaster machine (from the Chinese) that I posted some years back comes to mind. Faster, less use of mortar and cleaner.

God help creative thinking in this country. We should be able to do something different from the 1914 norm.
Yes boss. The plaster spraying machine should be able to give a smoother rendering.
The thickness can also be adjusted.
I've watched demonstration show it used for spraying gypsum plaster also.
It's faster and smooth.

Infact, you have inspired me and l will do the same to as many areas l know, that dont have constant water supply, that l can afford.

God-willing, one Borehole per year (approximately 250K l suppose), l am/should be able to afford.

Thanks for leading the way!

Baba, you know how you do it back then. That shelf where you have all the encyclopedia, dicos and big books in the house. I just want to feel among na.

Those old school part is something I can never part with. Let technology advance to voiceless communication where you can read a book from the authors mind grin grin

I'll still like to keep those stuff for good references. That's why I'm not in bed with Siri or Cortana.

Do you know I still keep some good number of drawing sheets at home and office for sketches especially when dealing with junior architects? I always tell them to sketch it out on paper first then we get it into the system.

Oga Brabus,

I know exactly what you mean!
Its gives an "intellectual feeling" and touching it physically gives 'life' to it as well.......

I was a Library prefect in Sec. School and l am very comfortable with Shelf-ed Books.
I have a Library at home but over time, l am trying to digitalize as many Books as l can.... while not trying to acquire new "Paperback" Textbooks.

There are whole ranges of novels l have read as far back as the early 70's that l have found their Electronic Copies online, and have saved them.
You know our "children of today" who were born with "Laptops, Memory Sticks, Kindle and Ipad"...... l have this morbid fear of what they would do to my Paperbacks, when l am gone! angry angry

I wish l can take my books along! (Not like burying them with me sha, that would be silly! grin )

I nearly used it on one of my project in 2014 if not for funding as it didn't come on chunk. I like exploring new things.

The difference in cost is almost negligible for a smart homeowner or building contractor. But again, we are comfortable with "This is how we do it"

Bros, no call me boss. We have the real boss of boss (otherwise called Oga Boss) in the house.
You are very correct. Equipments like the plaster sprayer and concrete polisher are things that I expect to be used here already. I'm surprised it's not common yet.
In fact I've researched and toyed with the idea of procuring them for service rendering a couple years before this thread but for the capital requirements.
Nigeria is full of opportunities and the huge technological difference between the foreign countries and Africa will always make importing trending technology over there create new markets here.
I'm certain most clients would prefer a stained and polished floor to tiles when properly done.
