we gonna have to agree to disagree. fan and it's fanboy/fangirl derivatives owe their origin to "fanatic" which simply means excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion" it comes from modern latin "fanaticus" meaning "insanely but divinely inspired"...nuff said.

it's either you're a fan or not, being bias comes with the territory. it's what it means to be a fan of something. I'd rather take a lead from a bullet than admit that flash is faster than quicksilver, fucck the truth, fucck logic, both are overrated anyway. and on what basis can one determine what's truth or false self? If I should say Michael Jackson was a tran, can you honestly prove that he wasn't? logic doesn't apply to fanboyism cos the moment it does, reason would prevail and the euphoria and pride that invariably comes with fanboyism would lose all of it's luster.

A fan of Liverpool will not expect to beat Barcelona. That said, maybe I'm not a fan.

football is not maths. a REAL fan of liverpool will always be optimistic and will always fancy his team's chances against a so called superior foe.
okay I get you now. you like marvel just like one would like something in passing, but not really invested as to stop and buy it, right? that doesn't make you a fan rather an admirer, a mere window shopper.

"Fangirl" (opposite - Fanboy) is simply d female equivalent of a person utterly devoted to a single subject or hobby,often to d point where it's considered an obsession. In their case,they(fangirls) also tend to be devoted to emotional and romantic aspects of their fandom. A "Stalker" prowls, follows another obsessively, or sneaks about; usually with unlawful intentions.

sure, there are fans and there are FANS. there are plastic fans that ain't sentimental, always searching for glory and can be seen more frequently than not arguing against something/someone they are supposed to support. they consider themselves real fans but going by etymological definition of fan, they ain't.
there are REAL fans that are overtly/overly sentimental and ever ready to battle with anyone, the magic formula is to diss their foundation/point of support and they will lay into you like white on rice. they can criticize their foundation of support themselves, they are allowed but woe betide a non fan that dare to diss it within earshot.
being a fan is synonymous with sentiments, that's the whole point innit?
