Ntel Lagos limited coverage (Topic Edited) by thunder74(m): 9:55pm On Jun 16, 2016
Good day all, I received an sms from Ntel that I can now pick my reserved lines at Awolowo Rd or Kingsway Ikoyi, Lagos. I was very happy because I was looking for something better to move away from fraudulent Spectranet (will tell you more about them later).

Yesterday, notwithstanding the rain, I drove down to Awolowo Road in Ikoyi to redeem the lines which was simple after few registration formalities.

The lady asked me to recharge any amount so as to browse for unlimited cap. I paid 1k each for myself and that of my wife. As soon as I got back to the office, I received a mail and sms alerts that my sims have been activated. I immediately suspended my MTN line in the Boom J8 phone for it, behold, no show, no signal and no single data.

I put my wife's Sim too in her own same model of the phone and I excitedly inform her to browse today until she is tired when she gets to work since Obalende where she works is already covered as stated on their website. Guess what! No connection and no nothing.

To add insult upon graphic injury, I received a mail today that my two days Unlimited subscription will expire tomorrow. Is this how my 2k go waka? Their customers care line is not working.

UPDATE!
I went to PWD today and Charity/Military Cantonment and the network worked fine on my phone. I downloaded about 20 motivational videos within 20 minutes. I think the challenge is that they do not have coverage in many parts of Lagos. My wife called me that she was able to browse at Ogudu this morning on her way to Alausa.

Its like scaming exists deep down in the blood of ALL the network service providers in nigeria.
Re: Ntel Lagos limited coverage (Topic Edited) by chachanga: 10:30pm On Jun 16, 2016
Probably a software glitch! Happens all the time in a new operation. They'll keeping debugging etc and it should be right as rain in no time.

But, you're gonna have to go after them in person. Don't let any LooneyBin simpleton come on the thread later, telling how you're verbalizing an "impossibility". It's their textbook-theory brain that's addled and mottled. You'd be amazed how often people generalize and contest issues they know little of. I'd be a billionaire if I had a gameshow daring people to bet on hasty generalizations and shooting them in the head to impound their life's effort / impound their wealth if they lost the bet later.

I doubt NTEL's just gonna start off shooting themselves in the leg with crappy customer handling like that.

Go after them; the 2k mayn't be much but you paid for a service. So, get it &enjoy it!

Before you take any decision, be sure that the fault is not entirely on your own part. ntel is a pure-play 4G network, which means it doesn't support 3G or 2G, therefore network may not come up when you insert the sim on a device.

In fact, from personal experience, ntel network requires a valid APN in order to even bring up signal bars, which is very unusual, probably because it's a 4G only network. So, here is what you need to do;
Create an apn using ntel as the apn. Now, network bars may still not come up. Next, go to your phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#*, then go into "Phone information", scroll down and change network type to "LTE Only". In most cases, as long as network is available, signal would come up.

If your device has 2 sim slots, make sure to try it first on sim 1, because some 2 sim slots phones only support 4G on sim 1.

As an ntel staff, i expect you to have at least tried to help him out. because, if i understand the OP correctly, there is coverage in his location, but network isn't coming up on his and his wife's boom j8's. That means the misunderstanding may have been on the OP's part. The guide above should help him if that is the case.

Are you sure that you've set your phone to auto select any available network? It could be on 3G or WCDMA only.

You will not find the '4G Only' option in Settings > Mobile network on most 4G devices.

My own 10k subscription is already running and no coverage in Egbeda
I took it to ogudu yesterday and it browsed.
My anger is that they should be able to suspend the subscription till coverage gets to the area of intended use for those who bought the sim not knowing their area is not covered.
In fact I considered the way they are working as a scam.
If the coverage does not come to egbeda till my 10k expires?
I'm throwing the sim away!
Thank God MTN too is now launching its 4g and the signal is all over the place.

Thank you. I tried these processes except the creation of APN which was not stated on their site. My phone is LTE 4G compatible (Boom J8 Tecno). I even changed the settings to 4G only and still no show.

I have the same issue with my ntel SIM. I remember the lady that helped with the sim registration mentioning something about it working only with certain phones but I didn't pay her any mind; because to me it is just not just logical at all. That being said, I have used it in 4 different LTE devices and it did not work. At all, At all. Just had no service shown all through: Galaxy S6, iPhone 6, Redmi 2 and BlackBerry Q5 are all 4G LTE devices. This people need to get their act together.

Same neighborhood, same subscription plan and same response from the guy who registered the Sim. He kept saying he will get back to me when I told him to suspend the line. They are a bleeped up organisation. How and why can we not do anything right? It's pathetic.

This is the problem of the federal government. They sold the old ntel to not well funded organization that's why you guys are having all this problem. Pls bear with ntel. They are not well funded.

Create an APN using ntel, then dial *#*#4636#*#*, then go into "Phone information", scroll down and change network type to "LTE Only". Using this method is more effective than just choosing '4G Only' in settings. I have used ntel on a boom j8, and that's the method i used to get it working.

Seun, kindly put this on FP to educate others before falling to their tricks and to also put the company on their toes. A wise man said "whatever you permit will increase".

We have done it before, let us do it again. Nairaland is a voice, let us use it for the good of all.

The issue is more than what you wrote up there
There is simply no coverage!
Even if you like, soak your sim in anointing oil after doing the above process, it will not bring coverage to your environment which the phone needs to latch on the network in the first place.

I just see this as trying to help each other out. That's quite a huge sum to just go to waste, though. I hope they resolve these issues soon enough.

You know they are just rolling out.

They told you coverage is not yet universal

On their website, Egbeda is not listed among the covered areas. Ogudu is.

Why exactly are they supposed to refund you for your own mistakes, especially when you've started using it to browse in Ogudu?

The OP has a point. Obalende is listed among the covered areas and so he MUST receive service or get a refund + apology. I don't think you have a case, to be honest.

Here's the link to the areas of coverage here http://www.ntel.com.ng/4g-lte-coverage/

There are different LTE bands, and not all phones have global LTE chipsets. Your phone must support LTE bands 3 & 8 (900MHz and 1800MHz). If it doesn't, it won't work with Ntel even if it supports the other LTE bands.

That said, I'd expect the Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 to work since both have LTE bands that should cover most of the full spectrum. The S6 Edge uses the same chipset as the S6 and it's a supported device for Ntel.

I agree most of the customer service reps aren't very savvy about tech.
