For sometimes now, I have been
brainstorming on the above topic. I want to start taking my chances.
As a Computer Science graduate, what are the possible government and non-governmental establishments I can work with?
I dont know it all... Thanks for your input.

lol.. are you kidding? a graduate? haha

fromnigeria,
As a computer science graduate, you can work in just about any establishment nowadays. Banks, Insurance company, Airports you just name it.
Besides you don't even have to look for job. if you can put the skills you have acquired into practice and become a freelance Web designer, software programing, you can earn a living for yourself until big deals start coming your way. wish you goodluck

Hello OP,I want to believe that you are joking because you should be aware of the opportunities in Computer Science right from your 100level.Let me school you a bit with the believe that you have a vague knowledge about your course.
As a Computer Science graduate, you can work as a Software developer(Java,C#,Python,Erlang etc).
So you know,in Nigeria presently, skilled programmers earn a lot especially when you are conversant with Java.
If your motivation is getting steady work, then you should consider the option of a Web designer because the demand for websites and revamped websites is high.
Also,as a Computer graduate, you can work as a Business System Analyst. It requires both technical expertise and client relationship skills.
As a Computer Graduate, you can work as a Quality Assurance Officer (Some Companies combine the BA and QA role together).
As a Computer graduate, you can work as a Network/Telecom Engineer (You need CCNA,CCNP knowledge etc for this role).
As a Computer graduate, you can work in different organisations as an IT support Personnel( You should be conversant with MCSA,MCSE,CCNA).
As a Computer graduate, you can start your own Company.I will advice you read the story of these CEOs who have carve a niche for themselves in the world of Technology. Terragon Group(Umeh),Seamfix Nigeria Ltd(Chimezie),VibeSolutions,Greenmouse Technologies(Victor Nwadinobi). If you are considering starting your own coy, their Story will inspire you.Cheers

Re: Computer Science: Where Can I Work? by eleojo23:
OP, I am surprised at this your question. You read a course that belongs to the field of ICT which is in high demand right now.
I advice that you use your already acquired knowledge in computers to further develop yourself. Many companies and organisations are looking for the services of ICT guys as many of them are going digital in all their operations. Many hospitals are seeking to run online prescriptions and dispensing, online stock management, companies are going online and they need guys to maintain their servers etc.
So there are numerous opportunities if you are willing to go the extra mile to develop yourself beyond what you have been taught in school. And I believe it will be easier for you since you already have a computer science background.

Re: Computer Science: Where Can I Work? by texazzpete(m):
Wrong question

I usually don't like to get involved in the 'salary earner vs entrepreneur' debate as I think everyone has a niche, but as a computer science grad in 2016, the questions you should be asking yourself are

- What (relevant) programming language do I know? How good a coder am i?
- Can I make an iOS or Android app? What type of app can I make ?
- am I good enough to walk into some of the top tech startups in Nigeria and start making a difference?

As a computer science grad, you stand at a point when the tech scene in Nigeria is heating up, and when young boys are securing millions of dollars in funding for successful startups, when Nigerian app devs are making well received apps and games.

I think you're asking the wrong, unambitious question if you're still fixated on the 'how do I get a job in Okokomaiko LGA with my computer science degree' type of question.

You can't find a job using a computer science degree....my lecturer told us that specifically.
You need to specialize in a field of CSC based on what you've learnt in school.

I don't think this life is about where can I work again. It's all about what can I offer. I have come to realize having a certificate will only increase our chance slightly.
