FG Drags Anambra To Supreme Court, Slams N50bn Suit by sweetsandy4luv(f): 4:53am On Jun 23, 2016
The Federal Government has slammed a N50bn suit against the Anambra State Government over land.

The state government had purportedly revoked 148.337 hectares of land at Amansea, in Awka North Local Government Area of the state, which was said to have been acquired by the Federal Government for Sites and Services Scheme.

In a Supreme Court suit No. SC 876/2015 (the Attorney General of the Federation of Nigeria as plaintiff and the Attorney General of Anambra State as defendant), the Federal Government is seeking eight declarations, including N50bn for exemplary and aggravated damages suffered by her by the alleged unconscionable actions of the defendant.

In the claim of the plaintiff against the defendant, as contained in the writ of summons signed by the Registrar of the court, the Federal Government sought for “a declaration that the 148.337 hectares of land at Amansea, Awka North LGA, Anambra State, comprising Federal Government’s Sites and Services Scheme, Amansea/Awka, was lawfully acquired by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Anambra State Government in 1992, under the Land Use Act of 1978 (as amended).

Parts of the required declarative expectations are, “A declaration that the Federal Government of Nigeria had duly paid the required compensation that was assessed to the knowledge of and active collaboration with the Anambra State Government.

“A declaration that the Federal Government of Nigeria had duly granted Statutory Rights of Occupancy to her allotees and development partners, members of the public and original land owners to the knowledge of and active collaboration with the Anambra State Government.

“A declaration that the purported revocation of the Federal Government of Nigeria’s rights and interests over the said Federal Government Sites and Services Scheme, Amansea/Awka, measuring 148.337 hectares of land, by the Anambra State Government vide a public notice, dated September 1, 2014, is wrongful, unlawful, null, void and of no effect whatsoever as same is neither supported by any extant law in force in Nigeria, nor done for any justifiable reasons, among others.”

When the matter came up before a full panel of the apex court, presided over by Hon. Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed on Thursday, June 9, 2016, the court adjourned the case to February 13, 2017, for hearing of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction filed by the counsel for the Federal Government, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) for interim an order of injunction.

What's Federal government doing with almost 150 hectares of land in the smallest state by land mass after Lagos? That's nearly 10% of the whole Anambra state nah. Wicked people...want to cleverly seize these lands so that you will prevent SE from developing; prevent the industrious indigenes from developing their states. If they want land to develop, build industry, they will tell them this is federal government land, you can't touch it yet the land remains undeveloped. Another indirect marginalization scheme employed to keep SE undeveloped. If you want land, my friend go to the North where the land there is almost 100x of SE's land. Wicked government...always wanting to straggle Igbos to death even when they are on their own. They will leave their North with massive land, trooping to SE. Same with Fulani, you leave your massive land, yet looking to rear your cattle in this tiny, very tiny SE's land. Who is fooling who? They do these because SE's land is very fertile; that's why there are lots of trees and greenery...gorgeous vegetations.

You won't see it....because they don't want you to know what they are doing just like they cleverly carved oil rich lands from old Imo state and added it to Rivers state. Whenever you read anything, try to think deeply.

How much of the land has the state developed since 1999? Show us how many industries they've previously built.

50 billion naira ke? Since Obiano has been proactive and NDA has rendered Mr Daft with a chronic ear infection then Anambra state should be the one to shore up Nigeria dwindling revenue.

Which northetn state can pay that money?

Grazing?.....

Why Anambra?.....

Buhari should not provoke that group any further, it wont end well..

Fg should not talk of land with them now, they would only overheat the polity, cause tension, draw more sympathy to their cause.

Of what purpose is the land to FG now we are broke?

**** It says the land was set aside for "sight and services" and the state government revoked it. The scheme (sight and services), done in all states of the federation, was initiated by the FG under the Jonathan for housing and recreation.

I'm not against the program, what I'm against is the sheer magnitude of the land and location. Why do they need 150 hectares inside major city like Awka and environs, and in a state as tiny as Lagos? Do you know what 150 hectares is? Isn't 10 hactares enough?

They said it is land set aside for "Sights and services" scheme and some **** here are talking about grazing. What concerns sights and services with grazing? To make matters even worse, Jonathan initiated that scheme and it covers every state of the federation. Other states are utilising the lands for that purpose (accommodation and recreation) and Anambra state revoked theirs. But since it is coming from the land of the "untouchables" ****the fg should simply fold her hands and watch them do as they please.

Why didn't they object to it when the ineffectual buffoon was mapping out the land for that purpose??

People just keep coming here to show shat ignorant fools they are everyday- simple "sights and services" dem no sabi. Smh.

Yes, the land was acquired by the previous admin but was meant for the construction of an estate (centenary city). This current admin has shown no interest in the construction of the said estate, wch led the state to revoke the land..does that make sense to all these folks

Buhari is owing anambra state millions of dollars over federal roads deveoped in anambra by the state governor..yet they want to victimize the state.

Buhari should know he won the last election with 1.2 million votes only..

Azikiwe Jonathan must have hated his Igbo brothers to have acquired their land for the FG. I also remember that an Igbo man Pius Anyim was the SGF then, well may be he was sleeping as was custom.

MODIFIED:
The land was actually acquired LEGALLY in 1992 by the federal government as clearly stated.

FG aint helping themselves here, why bring up land issues at this time of civil agitation in most SE states? This will certainly add more fuel to the fire and draw more people to sympathize with the agitators.
Diplomacy is a key feature lacking in this government.

Nice question to be directed at Azikiwe Jonathan.

But when the other lands acquired in other states for the same purposes are being developed, the teeming population of Igbo bigots would begin to lament that is Anambra State not deserving of such development.
